There’s a question I have heard over a long time from football people, “What did we learn today?” It is usually asked by a coach who wants his player(s) to figure out the change he wants to make. So what did we learn yesterday?
If any doubt remains that the current Celtic squad are very effective as 3-5-2 and relatively ineffective as 4-2-3-1, it can only be from someone who was on Twitter most of the game.
Gordon Strachan endured some torrid criticisms as Celtic manager. I am sure this informed his pre-match comments on the “Twitterati’s” verdict on the tactical deployment against Ferencvaros. Gordon assured us Neil Lennon knows the players better than anyone, especially online fans, and he picked his strongest team to start on Wednesday and again on Sunday.
On any level, this is true. Neil Lennon knows his squad better than any of us, just has Gordon did in his day. Both men are also tactically better versed than most of us could ever hope to be. But the sight of two central defenders making rampaging runs at different times late in the game against Motherwell, surely will convince the final doubters: three at the back, two up front and leave the middle five fluid.

I would say that Jack Ross is potentially the best coach working in Scotland.
I would have gone for Marcelo Bielsa when Brendan left, and made that suggestion at the time. That ship has sailed now. Think his Leeds United team will be a revelation in the EPL this season.
At times we do indulge in our ‘Celtic ‘ world far too much paralysis from over analysis..
Our team and manager gets found out more in Europe because the opposition is generally better or much better than anything we face domestically.
We win everything in Scotland by being a progressive team who score lots of goals and dominate games.
The team that has been runner up in Scotland the last two seasons have equipped themselves better [than us]in Europe at times because they are a more defensive rigid team who unlike us have won nothing domestically and have not even come close to winning the league title.
Again this season the team that wins the Scottish title will be the team that wipes out the inferior teams with ease and attacking football and wins maximum points most of the time.
So, 37 year old Broonie shouldnae play ’cause he’s always gettin’ yella cairds…far too many for a 38 year auld. Then whit happens is he gets himsell suspendered an’ he cannae play for us…misses the really important gemmes. 39 year aulds shoodnay be gettin’ so many yella an’ rid cairds. An’ anywiy, he’s gettin’ too auld, he’s 40 fur god’s sake…

Delaneys Dunky, that remains to be seen, if Leeds United do well in the EPL this
coming Season 2020/21. If they can do as well as Sheffield Utd did last Season 2019/20
then Marcelo Bielsa will be doing not bad.
As for Jack Ross, no in my opinion, we should just stick with Lenny.
Because he is a true Celtic Man, one of Us, & he knows what is expected @ our Club, &
he knows how to handle the pressure, & also if you look @ his recent success record
Lenny has won three Trophies where as Jack Ross has not even won one.
If it’s not broke, then why fix it Delaneys Dunky?
The Klimala one is a bit weird. He’s getting a lot of praise from Celtic fans for what I felt was an iffy performance.
Fans who slated Neil Lennon for not playing are afraid to admit its not a simple decision so praise the guy who missed two absolute sitters.

WeeBobbyCollins, I have mentioned on here before, Broony is now 36 Years of Age.
He should be used more correctly when playing for us. All one has to do, is look back
to last Wednesday’s match, the Meltdown Fiasco, where Calmac, was having to cover
the whole of the midfield, for Broony, Horses for Courses, I rest that point.
As for Pollish Pat, or whatever way to spell his Surname, that is just Nitpicking. &
not covering the rest of the points, I was making in my comment.
Talk about being part of the problem of being linked with a Nanny State.

Timaloy29, Kilmala will come good for us with more Game/Match Time.
Lets anaylise his appearences this Season. Forget the Friendlies in France.
The two so called Friendlies here in Scotland, Kilmala did not play against
Ross County. He only played the last 25 minutes against Hibs. He came on
against Hamilton for the last ten minutes & scored a good goal. He played
the last 5 minutes against Kilmarnock, He did not play our 1st CL Qualifier
Match (Nor The Meltdown Fiasco) he only got the last 15 minutes or so
against Dundee Utd you see my point about getting up to match Sharpness.
I agree what John Hartson said about Kilmala’s movement around the
18 Yard Box, he has a Strikers Instinct so lets give the Bhoy a fair crack of
the whip.

I think you are living up to your moniker. It is an easy and lazy option to suggest that we don’t do well in Europe because we are used to dominating teams in Scotland.
Each team we face in the qualifying round (qualifying 2 out of the last 7 years) is a champion of their respective league. None of the big leagues’ champions have to qualify, so we are only playing opponents who ply their trade in smaller leagues. In each case, much like ours, our opponents are the dominant team in their league and their leagues are not filled with quality teams. It does not stop them from being organised.
As for the comparison with Sevco, they had the same goal differences as us at the start of the year. They then imploded- suspensions, injuries, loss of form; their squad was thread bare and couldn’t compete. That was the differentiating factor last year.
Arsenal are used to dominating lesser teams in Europe or, indeed, domestically. I watched both FA and Charity Shield finals and they were on the back foot in both, but were well structured, disciplined and organised; they won both games.
Generally, it is a cop out to pretend that we are unable to organise on account of being the dominant team in Scotland. The prosaic fact is that Neil (by his own admission) doesn’t place much stock in tactics. There is your fundamental issue.

I am not making any suggestions and certainly not advocating that we should replace Neil Lennon with Jack Ross. I was merely answering a question posed by Bankiebhoy. So please stop making assumptions about my answer. Thank you.

Thank you for posting that link.
BIGRAILROADBLUES and I used to meet regularly in The Stanley Bar Kinning Park. So sad to see the wee fenian oasis in Kinning Park close for good.
In our current circumstances we are fortunate to have Neil in the position he is.
“Rolling” – No.
“Markie” – That didn’t answer the question but what you said was easy to follow.
Sir Mick of Melbourne, that’s good to know – I did say “probably”……….( not definitely) your confirmation is a nice surprise.
Delaneys – I know nothing about football management but I think Ross looks and sounds if he does.
If I was another good football manager, I’d still be wondering why I’d want to ply my trade in Scotland.
@ TIMALOY29 on 31ST AUGUST 2020 2:30 PM
The fact Neil brought him on at half time is a clear admission that he made a mistake in his formation against Motherwell.
The first ‘sitter’ was a bit harsh as the keeper got something on it. More generally, Klimala gave us a better shape, made clever runs and provided more of a goal threat than we had in the first half. I suspect he would have done the same midweek.
Also, I like the high standard Klimala is now being held to; a couple of missed chances and people are desperate to write him off to vindicate Neil. Griff missed plenty of changes on his return at the start of the year, but people weren’t so quick to jump on his back then.
Delaney’s agreed.
Only a sleekit could turn that general question into questioning the Celtic managers position.

Timaloy
Look at the movement of Patryk Klimala at our two goals yesterday in 2nd half. His pace and movement created the space for Ajeti and Jullien to score. A proper unselfish centre forward’s play.
DD, I didn’t even get a chance to go in for a last pint. 😪

That is a fair point, Rolling _ Stone, it seams that way, that Lenny should pay more close
attention to Tactical Formation & Layout, Scamatics, Planning.
These so called CL Qualifiers, are laiden with potential Banana Skins, which is a fact.
It’s matches, where big stake money prizes, are up for grabs.
There are no easy matches, apart from perhaps the 1st Round. However, one has to
play eight matches, in normal circumstances, to gain entry into the so called Group
Stages, with ‘No Guarantee” of acheving said objective.
We all knew last Wednesday’s Opposition, where “No Mugs” & if we don’t box clever,
& use our potential capability to the Max, I’m referring here to Team Selection &
Tactical Formation here, then we will come up against a big cropper of a Flaw, that
is a fact. In my previous comments, I’ve already mentioned the necessary steps we
need to take, to rectify this regular ongoing problem we face, instead of being in
continues mode of “Systomatic Failure” when we come to the hurdles of Key Games.
Jamesgang:
“c.25% of your company’s projected income, ”
Is the CL `money` part of our `projected` income?
I thought it was more in the ` would be very nice if` category but that we planned our finances without it. ie , it would, if it happened, be a very welcome addition but it wasn`t necessary..

There is definitely a gap in the market to open a good Tim boozer in Kinning Park now.
What I learned is there is a large amount of Big mouths who think they know better than Neil and his coaches. They are mostly ballons
Balons d’or
What I’ve learned is that there’s a lot of sanctimonious Tims
Hot Smoked
I understand the financial business plan is predicated on getting there rather more than seldom, rather less than frequently!
In terms of the recruitment moneyball process, it’s vital. Our entire recruitment model is based on attracting the VVD’s, Wanyamas and Dembeles to use Celtic as a means to still bigger things. The bright lights and big names that come to Celtic Park on such nights offer that stage. Dingwall versus Ross County, less so!

Delaneys Dunky, your suggestion above, suggests that our Club. should have perhaps gone for
either Marcelo Bielsa, or Jack Ross, when Brendan – R, left us in February 2019.
Which is plain to see/read, that comment, sounds like you are not satisfied with our present

We have the best players by a mile but we are not a very good team
We have no shape when we are on the defence and you could drive a bus between our MF and Defence.

A very good 45 minutes yesterday. I blame Patryk Klimala for yesterday’s improvement. 😊👍🍀🇵🇱

Yeah TimHorton, & we are also making “Ball Watching Mistakes @ the back.
For example just before Half-Time yesterday Motherwell could have drew
level with said Flaw which needs eradicated asap in our Play.
But wait, I’m not allowed to pick up on Flaws, or post comments on here,
because some of our Fellow Community Club Fans become offended.
This is the kind of manager we should be looking for IMO, with an assistant manager who knows the SPL. I don’t know whether he’ll be successful with his new club as that depends on the players at his disposal. But his CV as a player and a coach suggests he could do a job for us in Europe.
