What does 10-in-a-row matter, Armstrong, Directors’ Box hospitality

416

If you review the comments section in August, you will note the demand for a holding midfield player to be purchased.  There was corresponding anger (to put it mildly) immediately after the close of the window that one wasn’t purchased.  Roll on three months and it’s difficult to see where such a player would fit in, even during Champions League games.

Instead space opened up for Stuart Armstrong, who, often used on the left, was well out of the picture last season.  Now he’s playing central mid and earned two assists and a goal on Saturday, leapfrogging Nir Bitton and Callum McGregor for his place.

McGregor again answered the call at left back, but his move into the middle at halftime changed the game.  Two goals down, Celtic needed someone to take a grip on the game.  Operating with very little space McGregor played a one-two with Armstrong, dropped the shoulder on a defender, before finding the corner of the net.  True control under pressure.

Kolo Toure’s first game back from injury was memorable for the wrong reasons, caught ball-watching for Louis Moult’s goals, the first of which is Goal of the Season material.  Sharpness will improve for Kolo, but the change in defence illustrates how effective the Sviatchenko-Simunovic partnership has been.

Graeme Souness met the Scottish media last week and gave his personal insight into the game.  On Celtic’s dominance, which he was unequivocal about, he posed one question: “What does 10-in-a-row matter?”

I know one Celtic fan who is neither here nor there on the subject of 10-in-a-row but for most of us, that number of consecutive league titles has enormous resonance.  46 years ago Celtic broke their own record to go seven-in-a-row.  When nine was achieved two years later it met with little enthusiasm, but a target was created – and met.

Nine-in-a-row was a record many of us were enormously proud of but it’s no longer something we can shout about, nobody can, when two share the achievement.

I suspect the week after 10 is achieved we’ll wonder what all the fuss was about but our world view will change.  10-in-a-row represents the horizon for many of us, we cannot seriously consider what lies beyond until we’re there.

Here’s a couple of thoughts for you.  We’ll no longer count our achievements in years, but in Generations.  Generations of Celtic fans will perhaps know the occasional blip, but that’s as harsh as it will get.

Perhaps more tellingly, Celtic will not to lose another Scottish league title in their lifetime of a fair percentage of fans.  It’ll be green and white, right ‘til the end.

    While I note what JP is saying I don’t quite believe that is correct.

    I believe that there will be a fanzone at the ground in due course.

    The Police always — absolutely without fail — object to any kind of licensed facility which they are not familiar with, or any kind of licensed activity which is ground breaking, unusual or which creates any kind of precedent.

    From concerts at Loch Lomond Bear Park, to Ashton Lane, to Princess Square and many many more besides the standard police procedure is to object without thinking and without reason.

    I believe in this instance there was a police objection and an observation from the council. Both of these can be gotten round and argued away without question. I believe this will happen in due course and is being worked on.

    The Police position especially fails to stand up to any scrutiny whatsoever. It is only a matter of time and having someone exercise the brain and push the right buttons.

  13. I find the appointment of Cathro at Hearts absolutely laughable. The guy is 30 years old, has never been a Manager nor played the game at any decent level. I’m sure he is an idealist but how can he be expected to lead a club and inspire a dressing room when the going gets tough. I would be astounded if it works. It’s a bit of a gamble for a club with £m’s in liabilities to meet with their main stand upgrade.

    The reaction from the SMSM to Cathros’ appointment at Hearts, suggests that some people are a bit worried.

    When you get negative comments from such luminaries as Jackson K and Boyd K, then perhaps we should all take notice, because these guys really know the game!

  20. TET (and others asking about the Court of Sessions Appeal on The BTC)

    this is from SFM where the last comment is from a guy who is well clued up.

    =======================

    Reading on another forum that BDO have yet to formally appeal through the SC on the big tax case. Seems the latest list of appeals granted do not contain it, and there is no evidence it has already been passed. If they have decided not to appeal, would they have to formally announce it?

    =========================

    My understanding is that they have already been granted the right to appeal to the SC. This was granted through an appeal to the CoS, who agreed that there was an arguable case on a point of law.

    Had the CoS turned down the request, then BDO could have appealed direct to the SC. In that situation there would then have been a SC decision whether or not to hear the appeal. The case won’t appear in the current cases list until a few weeks before it is due to be heard.

    “ Lord Carloway said: “The court is of the of the view that there is an arguable point in law of public interest which should allow the appeal to the UK Supreme Court to proceed.”

    “There are significant issues in this case which may apply to other similar situations.”

  22. Citeh- 0 v The Famous Glasgow Celtic- 1 ?

    Our defence and goalie play the game of their lives, Celtic counter attack in the 67th minute, the wean goes on a mazy run from his own half , Citeh players stumbling and falling in his wake , he looks up and spots Big Tam fae OZ in space 30 yards out, Tam shapes to shoot with his cultered left foot but feigns to his left, and plays a beautiful reverse into the path of DemBhoy, who from 14 yards out and the Citeh goalie trying to close him down, looks up and gently floats the ball over their goalie with £50 million buy John Stones failing to get a tackle in and …..the Celtic fans rise as one as the ball floats towards the empty Citeh net, they hold their breath as the ball seems to take an eternity to hit the Citeh net……………it’s there, Celtic have scored ! Cue utter bedlam in the Celtic end …yyeesssssssss !

    For the remaining 23 minutes and and 9 minutes injury time added on by a Hun ref, during which Pep is fighting with the Celtic dug out screaming to Celtic’s assistant coach , ” do I know you, I don’t know you….who are you……you’ve nae class ya bass” ?

    The final whistle sounds, and the Bhoys in green have triumphed once again.

    Is there no stopping the Celtic green machine ?

    Celtic have held on to win 1-0…….yes there were times during the matter stages that it was like ” The Alamo”….but Celtic’s rearguard stood firm against all odds including a dirty homer of a Hun ref,the 3 points are ours !

    Blessed Brendan in his post match interview shoots down any suggestions that Citeh were poor etc, and congratulates Pep and his Citeh team on a fine display , but the Bhoys in green stood tall and once again showed the Whole of Europe , hows it’s done……..The Celtic Way !

    Hail, Hail.

    Yes Bhoys it could happen, and for a couple of brucies bonuses, DemBhoy valuation yet another £10 million……….Sevco fans and Dave King are throwing themselves oot of windaes all over Glasgow ” oh naw that Celtic job are in a different universe to the bears, we’ve have nae chance ever of catching up, the gap is just too big, gies mair money sumbody pleas ” ?

    Glasgow is Green and White………..so’s ma hoose Bhoys !
