What is tolerated in Scotland

250

Even when Celtic are no longer involved in a cup competition, I usually have a commercial concern for the tournament and the game in general.  If we are not at a final (and Newco seldom are), who will buy the all tickets?  Even Aberdeen could not sell their allocation of tickets against Celtic in recent finals.

In this respect, it is a good time for the Scottish Cup semis and final to be behind closed doors.  The SFA will lose no more money than if Celtic were there for a fifth successive triumph.

You have to feel for St Johnstone fans, already denied attendance at their second major trophy win, they could also miss their third.  They were dragged into a sectarian scandal when their players were abused at the behind closed doors quarterfinal.  Carried out on the SFA’s watch by staff permitted to be pitch side, how the Association deal with the matter will tell you lots about how our game/country/media is run.

If only the abuser was from a different club, or better still, if he was Czech, the frenzy would ensure such attitudes were not tolerated in Scotland in 2021.  But you know there are.  Feeling a bit less interested in the SFA’s financial well-being, to be honest.

    Sorry lads but I disagree.

    —————

    Fair enough point Squire Danaher.

You said it yourself though – in an ideal world.

Unfortunately, we know we are not. And I agree with you and Robinbhoy that St Johnstone shouldn’t have to make a complaint.

However – accepting the reality of the non-ideal situation – the club need to step up and make an issue of this if the SFA don’t do that willingly.

We all know the SFA will do SFA. Choc full of huns and cowards. As David Low said on ACSOM last week, we should leave Scotland because it’s the only way we’ll get treated the same as everyone else.

This season’s double standards have proven that fact in technicolour. Leaving would also remove Desmond’s reliance on a strong hun.

They’ll all say hee haw, Squire. This is where you miss the point.

It’s not about individual politicians or political parties and everything to with deeply engrained culture and norms in this country.

Nothing will be said or done about it because it serves no one’s interests to do so. That’s why the response (or likely lack there of) will give you an insight in to the country we live in.

  7. Would it not be possible that some supporters of the deid team, who are not huns, might speak out about the anti-Irish racism? I know some decent ones but they would need to be a fair number, because, like all our politicians, they would fear the consequences.

  8. What is the Stars on

Whats all the fuss about lads.

Here is what is likely to happen

    St Johnstone will not complain

The media will not mention it

In the unlikely event that St Johnstone do complain, the media still wont highlight it.

In the even more unlikely event that the SFA actually investigate the complaint they will decide there is insufficient evidence to take the matter further.

In the extremely unlikely event that St Johnstone complain and the SFA investigate properly …..the verdict will be covered by Section 16 subsection 90 which states that calling someone a Fenian C**t when in fact they arent one is punishable by a £5 fine ( Section 16 subsection 90 paragraph a states that calling someone a Fenian C**t when they actually ARE ONE is not a punishable offence)

Uefa sectarian claim disputed by senior policeman

    Sat, Apr 22, 2006, 01:00

    Ewan Murray

The senior policeman who will oversee tomorrow’s Old Firm match at Celtic Park (deferred showing on Setanta Sport) has disputed Uefa’s claim that sectarian chanting is tolerated in Scottish society, while insisting that the decision the European governing body handed down on the recent Rangers case will have no bearing on the way Strathclyde Police handle the encounter.

Chief superintendent Kenny Scott, who has acted as match commander for more than 20 Old Firm meetings in the past eight years, will be in that role for tomorrow’s game amid a public debate in Scotland over who has the responsibility to eliminate sectarianism at football grounds.

In exonerating Rangers 10 days ago on the charge of sectarian chanting by their supporters in recent Champions League matches against Villarreal, Uefa claimed that bigotry was a Scottish “social and historical problem” and singing of The Billy Boys – a song that glories in the violent death of Catholics – is now “somehow tolerated”.

However, Scott said: “I would strongly argue, particularly with reference to the last two years, that Uefa’s statement has no validity. Sectarian behaviour is dealt with firmly in Scotland, and that includes at football matches.”

Alex McLeish will be in charge of Rangers for the 25th and final time in an Old Firm match, and is aware that the home support will be in a party mood with the title secured. However, Rangers are still chasing a Champions League place and McLeish admits they must silence the vast majority of the 60,000 crowd.

“Of course this is what we are trying to do,” said McLeish. “Whenever we go to each other’s grounds we try to make our own supporters happy and to make it a happy week at work as opposed to a miserable one.

“We are there to try and help our fans enjoy the next few weeks. It’s the last one for me but I am looking forward to it as much as the first one.

Chief superintendent Kenny Scott I would strongly argue, particularly with reference to the last two years, that Uefa’s statement has no validity. Sectarian behaviour is dealt with firmly in Scotland, and that includes at football matches.”

Been a long list of Chief superintendents spouting the above shoite and there will be many more no doubt

EUFA were correct it was and still is somehow tolerated by the law enforcement officers of Scotland for at least a 100 years…………no matter which political party is in power…………
