What lies ahead of Celtic, impossible in the history of the game

195

Yesterday and today people at Barcelona and Ajax will be appalled at how they threw away three goal leads in the Champions League semi-finals.  This can happen when you fail to concentrate, even for periods in games.

Imagine the taste of despair, failure and sheer waste in Barcelona and Amsterdam right now.  Then consider our job against Hearts at Hampden.  Hearts beat us already this season and turned us over in our own freak result last season.  Winning a treble treble is rarer than Celtic reaching the European Cup Final.

Moments without concentration and it could slip away.  This is why trebles are difficult and why what lies ahead of us has been impossible in the history of the game.

Someone wise once said “Success breads success”, surely by focusing on winning next year has its own rewards or have the accountants just come on as they need a wee slap on the back

My mother often said it. With no little pride I hasten to add.

Haven’t seen that game myself but I have heard a lot about it. Think Fergie went to it and bought Kagawa and tried to get one or two of the others. Have to get onto youtube sometime and see if it’s there.

  5. Come Sunday, just watch French Eddy toast their backline…. proving beyond doubt he is upper crust of all the strikers in Scotland

    Common sense, rationale, intelligent post.

    ——–

Never been so insulted in my entire life :-)

I think we are in danger of focusing too much on the “ten” and not only creating unnecessary pressure on ourselves but risking missing out on longer term success. The rest of Europe won’t stand still and wait for us to win ten in a row.

Start failing in Europe and we start failing at home.

I would prefer an established manager, but for me getting the right TYPE is more important than getting a “big name”. The likes of Mourinho and Benitez are top managers but I don’t think they fit the profile for what we need.

If it was “known” that Rodgers wanted out the best part of a year ago we should have drawn up a list of 10-15 possible replacements who would fit the profile. Maybe half say they aren’t interested, but you still have six or seven and you work from there. Maybe we did do this (and doing your business quietly certainly isn’t a bad thing), but it feels like we have been caught on the hop a bit.

Anyway, time will tell. Here’s hoping for clear thinking.

I’m a great believer in karma although I’ll probably spend an eternity in purgatory for saying that lol.

Yesterday I read on the boys brigade broadcasting site that a certain “superstar” was being freed after playing only 43 games in 4 years for his current club.

This is the same player that ended the career of one of Celtic’s best prospects at that time when his team well beaten put in a crude tackle that broke his leg, not just that he didn’t stop tae see if the lhad was ok but nonchalantly jogged away.

Although the young Celtic player was out for that season he actually still won the Under 19 Player of the Season Award. He never fully recovered and 2 1/2 seasons later was released.

At the same time his attacker, after a huge campaign by the smsm, was transferred, even though he admitted he didnae want tae leave, for an undisclosed inflated fee to a championship club.

The manager of that said club would be terminated 5 months later when lo and behold he was appointed in the same position by the selling club where he also flopped but before leaving emulated his last signing for the Bees by allegedly lashing out at an opposition supporter in a pique of anger and envy.

As that old saying goes what goes around comes around or as we would say in the Jungle eff him.

    I concur

However, it pains me to say, I reckon the full time appointment of Neil Lennon is inevitable

  13. The same thing that will get us 10IAR will

Also help us in Europe and vice versa. Why should it be either/or?

    Good sweeper keeper.

    Miserly defence

A midfield of ball winners and creators

Strikers who score often and understand that defending starts with them.

Good fitba is what we want. And need, to progress.

It’ll need a bit of dough, but that’s the yeast we should expect if we’re gonna rise to the occasion. And hopefully in the process, sevco will end up ‘brown breid’….again!
