What now from HMRC after New £9m tax delinquency

1073

Contrary to our earlier understanding, Rangers did not win a ruling from the Court of Session on who was to be appointed administrator, HMRC and Rangers came to agreement on the appointment of Duff and Phelps, who acted for Whyte during his takeover of the club.

The admission by Duff and Phelps that today’s court action by HM Revenue and Customs was in connection to circa £9m unpaid tax accrued since the takeover in May last year will come as a surprise no one in the Celtic Quick News community.  This is why Rangers are now in administration, it’s nothing to do with the big tax case, or indeed, the wee tax case.

Key question is, what will HMRC do now?  They’re not going away/. Rangers continued to sign football players despite being delinquent with taxes, and briefed journalists that they rejected a £9m offer for a player on 31 August 2011.

The fact that the business is in administration due to activity carried out under Craig Whyte’s tenure may also interest the Insolvency Service, who are already investigating Whyte’s takeover of the club following information passed by former chairman, Alastair Johnston.

One final push (this week) for the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. We have a Celtic top signed by the first team squad available to auction on eBay. You can bid on the auction and help send Vanessa for the treatment she needs by clicking here. Thanks to Penfold for the donation and to Taggsybhoy for organising (yet again).

  1. A nice guy from Radio 5 Live called this evening, asked if I was available to speak on Celtic without Rangers. I think my enthusiasm hit the wrong tone. Shouldn’t have mentioned the bottle of Champagne.

Árd Macha, Aipple, deleted, long link.

    Everyone:

We have limitations with the blog template, please use the link creator to post long links and don’t type long unbroken lines.

scottishleaf, ha! Yes, I retained http://www.generationofdomination.com (as you’ll see if you follow the link), just in case.

This just gets better and better.

Do you think they will hold on to the high earners and hope to sell them in the summer, or will they get rid now ?

They way it’s looking they wont make the summer, so offloading now would seem the way forward for them.

Re your tenner bet on the hartz to finish bottom, I stuck on 25 @ 50/1, in hindsight, we should have stuck it on the hun :<(

  5. If they win all their matches and we win all of ours, at what date will we arithmetically win the league? which match will decide it?

First to answer, with proof, will win the prize which is, of course, ice cream and jelly.

  6. @Aipple

A superb rant. I feel much the same, veering between happiness and anger.

There is a sense in which this whole debacle is just a ‘nasty wee jobby’ microcosm of what has happened to the whole country. In a sense Craig Whyte is just a smalltime version of David Murray and he is just a smalltime version of Fred Goodwin.

Follow the money — these guys have trousered it and walked off leaving the taxpayer and honest businesses to pick up the tab.

    Where did this investigation start?

Remember a few years back when there was an investigation into bungs (i think it was) and the police went to Ibrox and took away computers… Was that where this all started?

At what point did the hun come under investigation?

That was in relation to the Harry Redknap case that just finished. iirc the player bought from Portsmouth was Amde Faye and rangers were being investigated ref. bungs to Harry for the transfer. It turned out that the transfer was OK but during the investigation the London Fraud Squad discovered the EBTs and informed HMRC. Don’t ye just love Harry?

  9. Like most I want to win the league by 20 or 30 points and really rub it into them.

However, there’s just a wee bit of me, the devilish, mischievous bit that would like to win it by less than 10 points. How much would that hurt them!!

I know this will not go down well.

But I hope Celtic Supporter’s won’t buy tickets for the next game at Ibrox,

    ——————————–

I’m wondering if this game will even go ahead, you’re right, give them buck all.
