What Stein got wrong in Lisbon

433

Jock Stein didn’t get it all right in Lisbon 50 years ago. He told his players Inter’s weak point was their goalkeeper, Giuliano Sarti, who passed away within the last day, aged 83. How wrong could he be? Sarti played the game of his life, resisting Celtic for an hour, and then keeping his team in the game until the end.

Inter’s famed defensive structure was unable to adapt to Celtic’s ability to create space, but a combination of Sarti and the woodwork kept the scoring down. Twice the keeper benefited from the West German officials, once when he stretched behind to claw the ball out of the net, and once when he grabbed Willie Wallace legs inside the six-yard box.

Sarti

Sarti was Inter keeper throughout the Grande Inter period, when they twice won the European Cup and Serie A title. He earlier won the league with Fiorentina, as well as the Cup Winners’ Cup.

Great, though he was, he was no King Canute, and could do nothing about Big Tam’s tidal wave, which changed the course of football.

The Good ship Celtica good luck with your run. SANDS (Stillborn and Neonatal death Society) are a fantastic support group for bereaved parents, families along wih medical staff who need advice and help

My wife is a befriender for SANDS . She lives in hope that no one will ever turn up at meetings in the future because the number of still births and neonatal deaths are as few as possible in upcoming years.

In the past two years the number of still births in Britain has reduced from 17 to15 each day , which is welcome , and with more research, will hopefully be reduced even further.

Every charity is a worthy cause. SANDS do important work in an area which is not publicised as it is a subject which can make people uncomfortable , which I can understand.

I can’t understand the red mist that has descended upon Hundom.

What did they expect from a trial that had a jury of Irish sympathisers and a defending QC who was born on St.Patrick’s Day?

Found that within seconds of your post. But,,, wait for it… I then sought some context. Funny enough it’s there if you have a mind to look.

  7. Yon DANTE was ahead of his time and saw the state of play in the Scoddish judiciary….

The Eight Circle of Hell is resided by the fraudulent. Dante and Virgil reach it on the back of Geryon, a flying monster with different natures, just like the fraudulent. This circle of Hell is divided into 10 Bolgias or stony ditches with bridges between them. In Bolgia 1, Dante sees panderers and seducer. In Bolgia 2 he finds flatterers. After crossing the bridge to Bolgia 3, he and Virgil see those who are guilty of simony. After crossing another bridge between the ditches to Bolgia 4, they find sorcerers and false prophets. In Bolgia 5 are housed corrupt politicians, in Bolgia 6 are hypocrites and in the remaining 4 ditches, Dante finds hypocrites (Bolgia 7), thieves (Bolgia 7), evil counselors and advisers (Bolgia 8), divisive individuals (Bolgia 9) and various falsifiers such as alchemists, perjurers and counterfeits (Bolgia 10).

The outcome of the Whyte Trial was all too predictable.

What is not predictable is just what happens next and there is an awful lot that can and probably will happen next.

Do not think for a minute that Craig Whyte is going to disappear quietly into the dark blue yonder.

He still faces financial and reputational ruin as a result of the decree gained by Ticketus in relation to his personal guarantee. Yet the Ticketus deal was supposedly secured by a floating charge which was seemingly worthless.

Ticketus are out the money, hold a decree against Whyte who has no money worth speaking about, but between them, they could wreak some considerable corporate havoc.

Remember that you have heard sworn testimony that there was not full disclosure by the Murray Group, that Murray gained by the sale of certain assets back to himself for a knockdown price once Rangers PLC was sold and the bank debt cleared.

Craigy baby, having been cleared of charges, has absolutely nothing to lose here in chasing Murray, Ibrox, Charlie Green, Duff and Phelps and possibly others.

Meanwhile, King appoints Alastair Johnson as chairman of the current holding company.

Oh how they laughed in the aisles. This will be the same Johnson who a few weeks ago was described as hopeless by Finlay in Court. The same Johnson who previously said that the solution to Rangers debt problems were to just switch the debt from Rangers PLC to MIH.

The same Johnson who, as chairman, failed to take advice re EBT Disclosure and Governance and the same Johnson who oversaw a board which may very well have misled the SFA and other clubs about Rangers’ true financial status and tax liabilities in March 2011.

    Fact .

    Honest.

  13. A two hour delay at Heathrow has been rendered most enjoyable by the result from the court. RM is in hilarious meltdown. I suspect Murray is deep in conversation with his lawyers, and Ticketus at busy drafting up writs to be presented. Whyte, if he has any sense, should be heading for the airport and getting as far away as he can – his work is done.

There are one or two on RM who pointed out the outcome wasn’t hard to predict and that David Murray should be questioned etc, but those making that point are ‘reeking’ apparently. After that the descends further if that is at all possible :)
