What your money did

1537

In recent weeks hundreds of you have contributed to our Mary’s Meals project to build a school kitchen in Malawi for the 1221 pupils who are enrolled at the Kholoni Primary School in Mchinii, and then for the 746 pupils at St Joseph’s Primary in Kasungu.

The £7000 required for the first school reached Mary’s Meals some weeks ago and the building was opened and serving meals yesterday.

Here it is:

We have a lot to do today but there is an excellent chance that the £7000 required for St Joseph’s will be raised and in Mary’s Meals account before 470 of us sit down in the Kerrydale Suite for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day dinner tonight.

Here’s what you’ve done.  You have funded two facilities which between them will feed 1967 children, all of whom live below the UN measure of absolute poverty, in the 17th poorest country in the world.

Most days, for almost all children, this will be their main meal, it will often be their only meal.  As a result, they will attend school in greater numbers, 30% greater, if they are an average Mary’s Meals, Malawi, school.  They will gain a better education and have better opportunities in life.  They will build stronger bodies, more able to resist infection.  Child mortality will fall.

The spirit of Brother Walfrid, of Celtic, is alive within you.  You can get involved here.

See you at the party!

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches tonight.

“CNN reported that on the day before the game 3% of the earth’s flying population were all headed for Seville and were sporting a Celtic scarf – a statistic that no sector of industry could ignore and which would change the policy of many airlines as a result.”

You have brought together, over the years,a fractious bunch of individuals and turned them into a team.

That takes some doing;I for one can start a fight in an empty house(yer telling me-ed)

The upshot has been a consistently excellent place to air our views, for which my thanks.

Reading this site is a breath of fresh air and often topics discussed can be good, bad or indifferent.

What I would like to say though is that it brings people together that you may never even meet but somehow feel very much connected to.

This is why Celtic is more than a club and instead a family, thanks Paul.

Have a great time tonight people and do us all proud.

A point completely ignored by the then CEO of Thomas Cook, Manny Fontenla-Novoa who decided (despite repeated requests from many of us) that there wasn’t enough demand to enable the airline moving aircraft from other airports in the UK to Scotland.

Needless to say, Snr Fontenla-Novoa is no longer CEO after almost bringing Thomas Cook to it’s knees.

  11. RIP Tony Benn a true labour man who always did his best for his constituents and the labour movement and I can remember him clearly stating that Blair saying new labour was a new party and he was glad as he wasn’t a member of it

I am one of CQN’s serial lurkers and very seldom post. After reading today’s article and viewing the pictures, I felt compelled to post and say that the generosity and sheer will of the people on this blog to help individuals and communities is staggering. The efforts of everyone associated with the numerous appeals and causes that you have championed are a shining example and a great testament to the spirit and ethos of what Celtic and its community, is all about.

People on this blog often cite examples of why it’s great to be part of the Celtic community. I can think of no better example than providing the means for children to eat and learn, giving them the opportunity of a better life. Tremendous!

As a johnny-come-lately to the site, those posters who’ve been here since 2004, as well as those who haven’t made it with us, deserve their own acclaim in a toast from the top table.

In passing, I noticed a generous donation this morning to the school kitchen fund from CG.

    Respect for this, sir.

Maybe when the fund reaches £20,000 Mary’s Meals will be able to provide the kids with tin-foil hats to keep the sun away.

  23. inspiring , outstanding, uplifting well done CQN and paul67. Good people. Enjoy yer night.

  24. Paul67 , many many many congratulations on the 10th birthday of CQN . Did you think it would become what it has ? A vehicle for companionship , compassion and Celtic .

Everyone on the site that knows you , also knows that the respect and acknowledgement you receive doesn’t sit comfortably with you – well tough. Today and tonight you are gonna get it in spades . Word of advice . For every drink that you are offered , suggest that the donor buys a raffle ticket – that might almost guarantee a 3rd kitchen .

I’ve been fortunate to be on this site for almost 6 years now (I think- I’m sure you’ve got account details to confirm) and always regard it as a haven when I need a break and as one of the most informative and humorous sources of info , about Celtic and every other topic imaginable .

There is a family feel to it, influenced and directed by yourself and the various contributors . Yes , we fall out and yes. , in most cases we make up but that’s what families do.

I’m proud and humble to belong to the Celtic family but I’m dead chuffed to be a CQN’r.

Now , that’s me sober. , just wait till you hear the p&£@ I’ll come out with this evening.

    Hail Hail to everyone

    Sanna

  25. Looking forward to trip to Killie tonight. Should be an interesting team selection with VVD suspended & Biton, Forrest (again) and Stokes injured. Would like to see at least one youngster given a chance with these absenses, either Fraser at the back or Henderson in midfield. A lot will depend on whether or not we keep the midfield diamond and two up front or revert to the 4-2-3-1 to allow Rugby Park specialist Sammi to play.
