What your money did

1537

In recent weeks hundreds of you have contributed to our Mary’s Meals project to build a school kitchen in Malawi for the 1221 pupils who are enrolled at the Kholoni Primary School in Mchinii, and then for the 746 pupils at St Joseph’s Primary in Kasungu.

The £7000 required for the first school reached Mary’s Meals some weeks ago and the building was opened and serving meals yesterday.

Here it is:

We have a lot to do today but there is an excellent chance that the £7000 required for St Joseph’s will be raised and in Mary’s Meals account before 470 of us sit down in the Kerrydale Suite for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day dinner tonight.

Here’s what you’ve done.  You have funded two facilities which between them will feed 1967 children, all of whom live below the UN measure of absolute poverty, in the 17th poorest country in the world.

Most days, for almost all children, this will be their main meal, it will often be their only meal.  As a result, they will attend school in greater numbers, 30% greater, if they are an average Mary’s Meals, Malawi, school.  They will gain a better education and have better opportunities in life.  They will build stronger bodies, more able to resist infection.  Child mortality will fall.

The spirit of Brother Walfrid, of Celtic, is alive within you.  You can get involved here.

See you at the party!

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches tonight.

“CNN reported that on the day before the game 3% of the earth’s flying population were all headed for Seville and were sporting a Celtic scarf – a statistic that no sector of industry could ignore and which would change the policy of many airlines as a result.”

I was genuinely worried that I wouldn’t fully enjoy tonight because I wouldn’t be at Rugby Park.

However, reading Paul’s article is a reminder of how special CQN really is and how much more than a fitba team we really are.

See you all later….from HT who’s on his way home!!!!

  2. Glasgowdave.

Jim used to tell me that the Casbha used to have singing competitions against other pubs.

I think this was on a Sunday afternoon.

You have always been a voice raised against the prevailing wind, and are well repected for that. I rarely agree, but always read your posts with interest.

  6. Libertadores Round Up

    +++++++++++++++++

    Bom Dia,

Well a bit of a better tipping performance last night – relatively speaking. Two right outta five games. However, these things get easier as the contest progresses (said the eternal optimist). Anyway, here’s a resumé of how last night’s games went:-

Arsenal (Arg) 1 Penarol (Urg) 0

A real “Mogadon match” this one. Arsenal scored by virtue of an absolute howler of a spill from Penarol’s keeper, Castillo. Apart from that not much else to say, except for the fact that Penarol were bowff (again). Something fundametally wrong with that team.

Anything less than a win next week at home to Arsenal (probably the poorest Arghentinian team in the competition) will end Penarol’s interest in this contest.

    O’Higgins (Chi) 2 C.Porteno (Par ) 2

Although Porteño started the better team, O’Higgins took a 2-0 lead with goals from Alejandro López and Luis Pedro Figueroa. However, the Paraguayan team rallied with goals from Rodolfo Gamarra and Julio dos Santos against ten man O’Higgins.

Porteño will now be hell bent to get a result in the return match next week in this one.

Gremio (Bra) 0 Newells Old Boys (Arg) 0

I said yesterday that this would be game of the week, and it was. By far. Both these teams should go further in this contest. However, there’s a chance that one mightn’t get out of the “Groupo do Morto”

The match itself was a real “chess on grass” affair with both managers trying to out fox the other in midfield. Gremio had a few good chances to score, but failed and NOB will be feeling far happier with the one point.

MOTM here was NOB keeper, Guzman. However, I thought it was Gremio’s LB, Wendell. This boy’s a player, no doubt.

Dep Cali (Col) 2 Lanus (Arg) 1

Lanus dominated for long spells in this game and were in front through a goal from Acosta. Cali clawed themselves back into it with their winner coming from a penalty. However, their first was the best goal of the game, a 35yarder from Viafara.

Next week’s rematch will be interesting, as Lanus now desperately needing points to stay in this.

    U Deportes (Per) 0 v Atletico Parãna (Bra) 1

So, surprisingly, Parãna become the only Brasilian team to record a victory this round. Parãna were the better team throughout. The winning goal an own goal, “created” by a defendfer under pressure from MOTM striker, Ederson.

Parãna now look good to take all points next week in a group where the three top teams all share six points. With no goals and no points so far, U.Deportes now at the “can’t wait to get this over with” stage.

Richt, that’s me away. But before I go, just want to wish all you (lucky) attendees at CQN10 tonight a good one – lucky bassa’s !!

Glasgow Dave I will reciprocate that beer! Doc aw go on then……

  19. A story worth watching over the next wee while is Jackie McNamara vs the SFA refereeing fraternity.

Earlier in the season DUFC striker Nadir Ciftci was red carded for ‘strangling a linesman’ with the media predicting a 10+ match ban. In the end the red card was reduced to a yellow and the player was given a two match ban. At the time Jackie was quite outspoken about the conduct of and the statements given by the officials. Cue the usual suspects (Stuart Dougal and Kenny Clark) going off their collective nuts at a player ‘getting away with assaulting an official’.

Earlier this week Jackie was sent to the stand during United’s game against St Johnstone. Today it’s being reported that DUFC have written to SFA regarding 4th Official Iain Brines’ behaviour during that game, with the suggestion being that Brines ‘shoved’ Jackie.

Now Jackie strikes me as a fairly stubborn character and he appears to have his club behind him. The Referees gang are known for looking out for each other and for having long memories.

I think this one could run and run.

  20. Awesome Guys !!!

  21. Tube that I am. I have just arrived at hotel in Glasgow and my daughter phoned to tell me that I have forgot my tickets. I hope a photo will be accepted or someone will be enjoying a bottle of wine and a bucket of beers at table 41 that have been ordered.

    Numpty Mick

  22. Whenever I hear of Brines and conduct unbecoming, I immediately think of the infamous shame game, where he can be seen making a lunge for our manager. Ragtag of the first water.
