WHATEVER HAPPENED TO…MORITZ BAUER?

0
MORITZ BAUER had a Celtic debut to remember after joining on a season-long loan deal from Stoke City on August 28 2019.
The Switzerland-born Austrian international right-back was pitched in at the deep end by Neil Lennon to make his first appearance at Ibrox just four days later.
The attack-minded right-back played his part in a 2-0 victory with Odsonne Edouard and Jonny Hayes on target against Steven Gerrard’s side.
In the fading moments, Bauer, who was raiding down the flank, was sent flying onto the track following a wayward and wild challenge from Jordan Jones that brought an instant red card for the errant winger.

The defender faced a fight for the No.2 spot from Israeli Hatem Abd Elhamed who had joined the club from Hapoel Be’er Sheva the previous month.

However, both full-backs were forced onto the sidelines following the astonishing impact of £1million recruit Jeremie Frimpong from Manchester City as the Dutch teenager made the position his own by the turn of the year.

Bauer made only 13 appearances for the Hoops as Lennon’s men clinched their ninth successive title with the season finishing prematurely in early May 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.

The defender returned to Stoke where he was loaned out again, this time to Russian outfit FC Ufa. He signed a pemanent deal with the club in July 2021.

Bauer was on his travels again with he signed for Swiss side Servette six months later.

His contract expired in June 2023 and, at 32, he is still looking for a new club.
