GROWING up in Glasgow, Scott Allan admitted to being a fan of Rangers and revealed Paul Gascoigne was his idol.
The smooth midfielder had been linked with the Ibrox outfit several times after making the breakthrough at Dundee United in 2008, so it probably came as a surprise to many when the player was unveiled as Celtic’s latest signing on August 14 2015.
Allan quit Hibs on a four-year deal with the Parkhead side and made a winning debut when Ronny Deila fielded the playmaker in the 3-1 away success over his old Tannadice club eight days after his arrival.
ON THE RUN…Scott Allan in a rare Celtic appearance.
The middle-of-the-park performer made his first home appearance as a substitute the following weekend in another 3-1 victory, this time against St. Johnstone. He made his first start on December 10, playing 73 minutes in a 1–1 draw against Fenerbahce in Turkey in the Europa League.
Allan, who had cost a cut-price £300,000 from Hibs, made 17 appearances in all competitions in his first season.
Rocky times were ahead, though, after he agreed a loan switch to Rotherham United the following term.
Allan signed for the entire campaign, but the deal was scrapped in October with manager Alan Stubbs, the former Hoops centre-back, publicly criticising the player for lack of effort.
In June 2017, the former Scotland Under-21 international joined Dundee on loan, but was on his way back to Hibs in January 2018 in another temporary arrangement. The following season, it was evident there was no future at the champions for Allan and he signed a pre-contract agreement with the Easter Road club at the turn of the year.
THE CHASE IS ON…Scott Allan moves onto the ball with Celtic skipper Scott Brown for company.
He gave the go-ahead to a three-year deal, but, in the early part of the 2020/21 term, Allan was unable to play or train due to an unspecified medical issue which was diagnosed as type 1 diabetes. On January 23 2021, Allan made his first appearance after five months out.
Two months later, he joined Inverness Caley Thistle on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Allan returned to the Edinburgh club for the 2021/22 season kick-off, but made only six starts and was released at the end of his contract.
He moved to Championship outfit Arbroath in August 2022 on a two-year deal before being loaned to Northern Irish club Larne 12 months later.
