When an asset becomes a daunting liability

1665

With Ukio Bankas bankrupt there is an acceptance that Hearts, who owe the bank in the region of £15m, will go into administration shortly after the end of the season.  This might not be the case.

Hearts major problem is their major asset, Tynecastle Stadium, which occupies a valuable patch of land in Edinburgh.  If administrators acting on behalf of Ukio have free access to the stadium they may shut it and look to recoup their loans by selling the land.  There is a possibility Hearts could be a football club without a stadium, but that does not necessarily mean they will go into administration.  Without a stadium to use the club would be liquidated but there is a possibility they would be able ground-share.

Hearts tested the land value before the property crash and received an offer of £22m from a house builder.

Alternatively the bank’s administrators could use their considerable influence over how the club is managed to sell their shares or come to some other arrangement (Ticketus, anyone?). When the major creditor has this much control of the company without administration, going through the formal process could actually harm their chances of getting their money back.

    Of course…

…if the SFL1 clubs join the SPL gang, then next season SFL2 will be the new SFL1, and the new Sevco will have had a promotion, jumping 2 divisions in one fell and unpleasant swoop.

    Should we expect complaints?

Presumably the SFA will take firm and decisive action to revoke the licenses of clubs breaking the rules by not giving the requisite two years notice.

    Oh wait….

On the earlier conversation regarding Lennoxtown Bhoys going to St Ninian’s. Are they allowed to play for the school team?

a motion of no confidence would be a start, but as of yet not one club since the farce

began has done so, now if the club’s dont call for it they must be content with his leadership.

Its quite clear the guy is untouchable, probably like sevco has several layers of masonic protection wrapped around him, nothing will budge him.

  7. Twitter.

Let’s get one thing clear, NewCo haven’t signed to resign. If we see them ‘moved up leagues’, then it’s the complete doing of the SFA.

The lack of leadership in Scottish football is frightening. 10 clubs threatening to resign and top dogs don’t know about it? Astounding.

Thanks for the nod of assent. My comments are no more valid or worthy than anyone else’s. However, I mean it when I say I’d pay to watch him at another club. that isn’t to say we haven’t had entertainment – we have, but it’s been sporadic this season.

Something WGS said on Shortbread last night struck me – he said fans identify more with ‘tough guys’, players who throw their weight about, rather than more elegant, refined craftsmen. Sadly, I think that’s just as true at Celtic as it is anywhere else, despite our reputation.

    Being very attractive

    Not of the Catholic persuasion

Apologies if someone has already expressed this thought but I came to the conclusion immediately that they were short on kit.

  10. Over on the darkside, the Orcs have a thread going on the SPL2 possibility. One guy claims a Director of an SFL Club phoned him and said that there would be no invite for R*ngers. A lot of these guys are attention seekers and tend to make wild claims so his claim carries a Health warning.

Celtic supporters DO love craftsmen [think of Lubo].

Our greatest ever player is Jimmy Johnstone, a master of his craft.

they really do take boundless incompetence to new heights.can you imagine if this where the DFB? Their eye is so swivelled that it is certainly is not watching our game.

I seem to recall Fergus having a pop at them for having over 250 employees/administrators whilst in contrast the NBA in America was ran by 6 administrators.

  15. What would the implications be for the SFL Clubs if this breakaway went ahead. I assume they would restructure and have either a single 18 team Division or invite in 2 non League Clubs and have 2 10 team Divisions. Would there still be automatic promotion from SFL 1 into SPL 2.

  16. If Cowdenbeath (Findlay) and Dunfermline (Yorkston/Leishman) are involved in the quitters then you can bet your boots that they will invite their bretheren from the South Side.

I said ‘despite our reputation’. JJ was in the past, and when Lubo played for us he often omitted by MON, who didn’t ‘trust’ him. Ring any bells?

But my point was aimed more at fans, who seem to need a hard man type.

Re your query about Lennoxtown bhoys playing for St Ni Ian’s School team. I think not. They have a partnership whereby the bhoys’ schooling is provided by St Ninian’s but they take no part in the school teams. I think that is the case anyway.

On SPL2, we can take encouragement that it is Jim Spence breaking the story. He is perhaps the only one associated with football at BBC Scotland with any credibility.

You can always smell the rat when it’s Sevco stenographers like McLaughlin, Lamont or McIntyre breaking the news.
