WHEN ANGE MET GIO: THE TRUTH

1

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST has explained the reason behind a surprise image of him and Ange Postecoglou doing the rounds on social media.

The picture shows the Celtic manager and the Ibrox boss – sitting beside his Sporting Director Ross Wilson – apparently having a cosy chat in a Glasgow west end cafe.

Understandably, there has been confusion over the snap with the Greek-Australian’s face mainly obscured. Doubt, in fact, was cast on the identity of Van Bronckhorst’s early-morning companion.

However, the former Dutch international star has cleared up the mystery of the brief encounter.

Asked by the media about the photograph, Van Bronckhorst answered: “We all live in the same area and I’ve met him a couple of times at the coffee shop.

“I was just having breakfast with Ross and he came with his wife and we already met, so we didn’t meet for lunch or breakfast or dinner. It was a coincidence.

“We spoke about the games we’d played then I left him alone with his wife.

“We had just finished, but the picture looked like we were having a five-course meal and having fun.

“I think it only lasted for one or two minutes, but it’s always nice because we are both the manager of our clubs.

“We still enjoy being around the city with coffee or lunch. It’s always good to say hello to a colleague.”

The pair will meet again in what is certain to be less convivial circumstances in the second Glasgow derby of the season at Parkhead on Sunday January 2.

It will be the first time Postecoglou and Van Bronckhorst have locked horns as managers.

Should make for an interesting conversation when they bump into each other again in the cafe.
