Thanks to everyone who contributed questions for the Forum last night. It was an open, frank and productive meeting. Draft minutes will be distributed to attendees to be checked for accuracy before being formalised, after which the meeting’s outcomes will be made public through various outlets.
One thing which is evident, and goes largely unacknowledged, is the significant contribution made by Auldheid in building the channels needed for constructive dialogue between the club and supporters. Well done, Pat.
I see Neil Lennon in the news being “flattered” after Norwich City chief exec, and former Celtic commercial director, David McNally, told the media he believed it only prudent he keeps an eye open for a new manager, should Chris Hughton ‘leave’. Neil answered well, refused to comment on a job which is already filled, while setting a standard answer, suitable whether he was interested or not. There is no point firmly denying interest in a job as a subsequent refusal to do so for a different position would leave too much information on the table.
McNally is right, it is only prudent you keep an eye on these things, but can you imagine how Hughton feels when reading this stuff, or what the resulting speculation will do to the club’s relegation chances? There is now far too much information on the table now for Hughton to be effective.
A football manager needs authority and respect, Houghton has been denied both. Norwich should do the decent thing and pay the man his contract before they sleepwalk into the lower leagues.
It’s funny how different people read the same thing in different ways. An announcement that a club is in discussions with a couple of existing shareholders to borrow money to provide working capital is self-explanatory in most respects.
The announcement by Newco Rangers this morning establishes that the club needs a fresh injection of money to pay its bills. We all knew this, but the sharp-eyed will also have noted that this loan will create the club’s two major creditors. No bank will lend to Newco, their creditors will be limited to trade suppliers, HMRC and other football clubs, all pretty low values. This £1.5m loan is likely to give the lenders sufficient control to vote through anything they desire, should administration occur. The controlling directors and creditors will be one and the same.
Newco Rangers has been rag-dolled since its inception by various pressure groups within the broader family who seem determined to stamp on whatever green shoots of recovery exist. What it really needs is the kind of strong leadership this directors-creditors group can provide, leaders who will do the right thing, take the necessary medicine and stand firm against the quislings. While others tried to get the club for free, they paid their money, continue to do so, and deserve the chance to run their club as they see fit. For what it’s worth I think the club and its current controllers are a perfect fit. I hope they use their largest creditor status to protect their interests.
Congratulations to STV’s Peter Smith (aged 12 ½), who scooped the Royal Television Society’s Young Talent of the Year award, achieved partly because he was prepared and able to ask hard questions, when many of his elder peers would rather eat their own toe nails. He’s still not uncovered that Dallas Cowboys email, so more work still to be done.

It’s pretty decent. It has decent screens for the sport and they have the odd decent band on. Not in there very regularly but when I do get out I like to nip in for a Guinness. It’s a bit pricey but full of Tims when we played Ajax. Must have been a few hundred in.

KevJungle, the fact that they are newclub should be enough to answer your question. They may well have the same supporters and support from the same quarters as the previous deadclub, however they are a new club, without the footballing history of the old, dead club.
Think my calendar must be wrong. Graham Wallace to Tom English last month:
“Without putting a number on it there is sufficient cash in the bank. Come April we’d be confident that the club will have sufficient cash in the bank in order to maintain our operations.”

with regards to being different, I cant see the problems they have going away anytime soon, this will be going on for years and years to come and will hamper them. If they get back to the SPL can you realistically see them challenging us any time soon if at all?
In one of his blogs PMG suggested that losses were currently running at £714k/month ( very precise figure don’t you think?).
Perhaps this £1.5M will see them through to an early launch of Season Tickets. What then though? If they get all the ST money in quick and I think I read somewhere else that a 50% increase would generate around £9M.
That’s only and additional £3M or so, which without massive cost cutting would be burned through by the end of summer. Even with good increases in sponsorship, they’d still be back in the same position they are now long before Christmas.
I know that this might not make any sense but,
how many times will they have to ‘die’ afore
the penny drops that – they’ll ‘never’ be allowed
to die ‘period’ in this country ?

So the new club that we are always told is well run, financially solvent and nothing like the old club needs an urgent injection of cash. And of course it it good news when it gets a loan. Nothing to see here … nothing like the old club ….
It’s a bit like someone who has just had a near fatal heart attack celebrating being shocked as a fresh injection of electrical power.
OK, I’ve just done the survey. Couldn’t resist. My guess is a membership scheme is in the offing, at the fans insistence of course, and that will be their way of getting more working capital from the saps.

I know that, you know that, Kevjungle knows that, CQN knows that. However:-
That’s where it ends. To everybody else :- If they are called “Rangers”, play as “Rangers” cheat like “Rangers” and play at Castle Greyskull then to all intensive purposes they will be “Rangers”.
Reluctantly I concur with Kevjungle’s view. We have inadvertently allowed this to happen. I still do not know what the correct course of action we should have taken but I do not think what we have done is enough. Of course we all have our own actions that we think should have happened but did not.
Put simply we are losing the “war of words”. Not yet lost but definitely losing.
Sad but true.
A genuine question I have pondered :- Apart from keeping their history, what did Hearts gain by not being liquidated. ? They will drop a division, they have lost all their players and they still have debt.

Your preaching to the converted, however in the bigger picture that is irrelevant.
No doubt they “Rangers” will be back more obnoxious than ever and to most outsiders it will be “business as usual” “normal service resumed”.
My solution is simple although making it happen is more complex.
Get out of Scottish football before they arrive, but as stated in the last article any movement in our status will be on hold until after the referendum result.
