When the wealthy borrow from the poor

1829

Sell fans a ticket, you owe them a game of football.  Whether the standard or result it good or bad, it’s a relatively easy commitment to keep.  That’s what fans get in return for spending money on a ticket.

Sell people shares, you owe them a share certificate.  That’s what shareholders get in return for coughing up for shares.

Borrow money from fans and you owe them much more than a game of football or a share certificate.  In many instances that money will have come from people who had to forgo things to provide you with the loan.  You owe them a duty of care that their loan will be repaid, or converted with their agreement.

It beggars belief that an unsecured loan has been offered to Rangers International by fans group, Rangers First.  If, as claimed, the obligations to Sports Direct have been met, the club will have both the ability and the incentive to pass the securities previously held by Sports Direct to the fans group.  The club’s IP, training ground and ancillary assets should now be unencumbered, who better to have security over these critical parts of the club than a fans group?

Unless, of course, the obligations to Sports Direct have not been met.  Or someone else has their eye on the assets.

The claim that Dave King would match Rangers First’s loan took me by surprise.  This was counter to everything I knew and expected of him.  His swift denial was more consistent with expectations.

There is an axiom in football: Any club who has enriched a PR individual to the tune of £500k in the last year is making a serious attempt to divert it’s fans attention.  Celtic’s PR machine deals with the efficient communication of football information and financial reports.  Nothing whatsoever is spend attempting to lead the news agenda.  This often leaves us on the receiving end of that agenda, but we have nothing to hide.  Which is the way it should be.

Few sights in business or football can be more alarming than when purportedly wealthy people borrow money from poorer people.  The warning signs are writ as tall as the Ibrox stands.  This time there is no hidden Ticketus deal people can claim they didn’t know about.

  1. I will always be a Celtic supporter till the day I die. I love meeting fellow travellers and sharing stories of yesteryear but I will not be part of the charade. Celtic will go on without me and it will break my heart not being part of it but there comes a time when you have to mhan up. Our custodians have got this one opportunity to call them out. Failure to do so will result in empty seats.

Don’t know if’s it’s because i’m half scoofed or not, but did Sportscene analysis the huns penalties but didn’t look twice at ours ? Can’t be arsed rewinding…

ps, No, I don’t want them at home or away, don’t want to play them again.

pps. Don’t know why people want to bring flares to the games, pyro or denims…

HT / Dena / Almore – sorry me and Wee BGFC never hooked up today. We had a nice relaxing drive down M74 then accross Galloway on the A75. Beutiful drive if you ever get the chance.

Enjoyed the day mostly, but I am scunnered by the gangs of neds who have latched on to Celtic. Saw someone earlier tonight posting about the experience of a middle-aged fan in Turkey recently – threatened by Celtic neds when he said something about the flares at the Fenerbache game.

Spoke to a big fella over from Cork at the Thistle game last week with a similar story – crowd of wee ‘Celtic’ neds abusing Turkish locals, completely trashing Celtic’s good name.

With these parasites attaching themselves to Celtic, the MSM don’t actually have to spin any lies – they just have to report what they see – open goal.

They profess to be Celtic ‘Ultras’. Truth is, that It is utter bollocks – they don’t give a shit about Celtic – our club is nothing other than a vehicle for them to attach their ned behaviour to.

Cowards and bullies – hunt in packs, abuse anyone who challenges them.

They are the Casuals of today, and are a poison to our club.

Almore – Wee BGFC had the polo-shirt you gave him on today in case he bumped into you – sorry we missed you – hope the bus journey is peaceful.

Off to bed – happy with the game, and the day with my bhoy, but really concerned about the future – we are developing a bad reputation, and some of it is – and I hate to say it – deserved.

  6. VB your post makes no sense. If I choose not to give my money to the current Charlatans running our club on behalf of some absentee landlord so be it. intead I incur unwarranted abuse. I truly give up. But I did try my best. HH

  7. The way I look at it I’ve got 5 months left of supporting Celtic. And I intend to enjoy each and every moment of that experience. When the bitterness comes back you can fill your boots cos I will not be part of it.

“Easter 2016 represents a special time for the people of Ireland and the members of the diaspora overseas. The Centenery of the Easter Rising will be commemorated throughout Ireland and indeed abroad.

Given the unique relationship between Glasgow Celtic Football Club and the island of Ireland a number of posters on the CQN Blog have organised an evening on Saturday the 26th of March 2016, from 9pm until Midnight, at Craobh Chiarán, GAA Club, Parnell Park, Dublin 5.

There will be an entry fee of €10, to cover music, waiting staff etc. Any surplus monies will be donated to the Kano Foundation.

This is a non party political event and the intention is to provide a venue where people can meet during the Commemerations in Dublin, next year and relax among fellow Celts, irrespective of their backgrounds.

We have been touched by the generosity of many in donating their time and expertise to help make the event possible and by the large number of emails from people who intend to travel, many of whom have never visited Ireland before, or who have not visited in years.

Dublin next Easter will be a special place and we would be delighted to welcome as many as possible to our 2016 Dublin Hootenanny.

Jeez man, that’s a bit drastic, I have no idea how you can give up supporting Celtic because of outside forces. You’re either a Celtic supporter or you’re not, no half measures…

Good morning to you. Just getting ready to head out. I’m in a hotel tomorrow and Wed so will get around to dropping you a mail.

Clock is ticking on so many fronts in the life a Celtic supporter these days.

Return of establishment club, ( 3 years eh? Does not seem a long sentence for what was equivalent to a charge of pre meditated murder reduced to manslaughter by very understanding jurors atthe SFA.)

The downsizing of our own team will be very welcoming to the returning F.O.D. Very kind of PL to ensure a fairly level playing field on their return. Would have been so easy for him to kick on in their absence eh?

Hope all is well in the BMCUW world.

I read your comments last night about wrapping it if Celtic welcome back the huns. I understand your point of view, but if I’m honest,I think Celtic will need the fans more than ever next season.

Obviously I won’t criticise if you carry out your intentions, but I really wish you would reconsider.

We will still be Celtic supporters when the mob in charge are merely a bad memory.
