When to whip and when to not

454

After the adrenaline-fuelled dramas that a return to the Champions League after five long years provided, Celtic are off to Paisley on Sunday.  There will be an inevitable drop-off in in energy levels, the players are not machines, after all, as we take on an opponent with more robust objective from the game.

While Celtic have four days to recover and prepare, St Mirren will be 15 days without a game when they take on the champions.  During this period, they will have been able to do some endurance training and get plenty rest before what will be a committed 90 minutes’ effort.  They will not be easy to overcome.

Whatever motivational chat Ange Postecoglou gives before a game, it cannot always have the same intensity.  I expect he fully animated the players for the games against Real and Shakhtar, but words overused lose their affect.  Can he really whip them up for St Mirren?  I doubt it, in fact, I don’t even think he should.

Our baseline performance must be substantial enough to pick the points in Paisley.  The next big emotional effort is three weeks away, save the inspiration for then.  One more push before the break.

  1. It’s a league game today, not the League Cup.

Ange will only make a couple of changes today from the starting 11 on Wednesday.

Hatate, Kyogo and Jota will start, barring injuries.

Exactly … Ange won’t change too much, I was just saying “ma tram” to see guys like Abilgaard, I them realised I didn’t even have Haksabanovic getting on the park :-)

Cheers for the heads up, Trevor Noah clip should be in the tv more than what we have to endure best line ..

There is your GB banner there

Apologies … my post was clumsy, it was in relation to the Trevor Noah clip … probably should even have mentioned the GB and banners … and I certainly didn’t mention the current situation in Ireland

Personally I would prefer to not even comment on the subject and just concentrate on the fitba

So no more on it from me … will leave it to the ones who are sitting by their radios, tv’s & keyboards who will be concentrating on the other stuff and not the actual fitba

Ernie, do you think Ange will make many changes today from Wednesday ?

Tomorrow the Irish State broadcaster, RTE will televise the funeral of Elizabeth Windsor, a modern reminder that only the few fought against the British in Ireland.

Tomorrow the Irish State broadcaster, RTE will televise the funeral of Elizabeth Windsor, a modern reminder that only the few fought against the British in Ireland.

Would love to know the viewing figures in Ireland for that broadcast tomorrow, very revealing indeed the broadcast is happening, the battle for a united Ireland will be won in Ireland, not in Celtic park

Looking forward to today Stephen Robinson will do his best to limit and harm Celtic aided by a cheating Dom Robertson, as always no matter who puts on the shirt for Angeball “we play our football” I’m sure some rotation will take place, the 11 on Wednesday gave their all physically and psychologically, that takes it toll, Ange will rest those who need it, no team predictions as Ange is best placed, no score prediction happy with 3 pts to maintain the 5 pt gap, which is so damaging to Sevco

  7. 3pts is the aim today

A few goals would be nice, I don’t think it will come down to goal difference but increasing it just puts that but more pressure on our nearest challengers

We put 9 by Dundee Utd away, they beat them by one solitary goal at home (with United denied a decent penalty claim) don’t give them one bit of hope

    That is so funny.

I am sure even one as groveling as K Miller didn’t actually say that surely ?

  11. Buzzing for more football played the Celtic way today.

Good to see Rose’s Leipzig bubble totally burst last night.

  13. Abada has scored something like 16 goals in 42 starts

Even though Jota & Kyogo get all the headlines and rightly so, I also think young Liel could be the best of the lot … he is 20yrs old … an old head on very young shoulders, if there is one player the EPL vultures will be hoovering in January it will be Abada due to his age & stats… but am sure Ange will convince him to stay where he is

  14. TET,

The Friedrich Merz speech in February has been explained here in Germany as a slip of the tongue. He has explained that he was referring to the Russian invasion of Ukraine (in February). The protocol of the speech has since been corrected to reflect that. So no prediction of any actions in September was intended.

    End of “story”.

THERE are a few threads on what he (KM) thinks about Kent…. He should get a better deal etc etc

Haven’t read them all but that was one of the headlines……

  16. 3 points today please Celtic, couple of goals or 5 would be lovely.

Finally got out of the Deathstar (QEUH) after 10 weeks, to recover at home and we all know a Celtic win speeds the healing process! 😁

Be nice to watch the game without an intravenous drip hinging out my arm. 🍀

Would have loved to have joined the mini hoot in Coatbridge so will target the next one but no alcohol for 3 months is a bummer.

I don’t expect wholesale change to the Celtic starting line up, but it’ll be the same 14 – 15 who’ll get on the pitch. Hope the injury to CCV is just a rumour, and lucky charm Liel starts. Would like another look at Haksabanovic and a Maeda goal.

We’ve come to expect routine wins , but there have been very few great performances in Paisley, at this relatively new ground. The DJ plays a certain song for a Celtic visit, wonder if he’ll play it today. A late Gary Hooper winner is still fresh in my memory.

I couldn’t clap for the Queen in a minutes applause, though I wouldn’t boo a minutes silence. There will be little, or no applause IMO and the perma rage of the Zombie radar rage will ramp up, towards legal action, points deduction , null and void or Kaffliks for Rwanda campaigns, definitely no free sandwiches from the Louden.

I did suggest getting you a wee surface-pro for the hospital to keep you connected … a few of the big bosses will be struggling without your IT “assistance”

You’ll probably be on a 6 month sick review in January 2023

All kidding aside hope your back as soon as it’s possible …. And hopefully the Hoops lift your spirits today… and I will maybe even go out and buy a few Stellas since you canny drink them for a few months :-)
