When to whip and when to not

454

After the adrenaline-fuelled dramas that a return to the Champions League after five long years provided, Celtic are off to Paisley on Sunday.  There will be an inevitable drop-off in in energy levels, the players are not machines, after all, as we take on an opponent with more robust objective from the game.

While Celtic have four days to recover and prepare, St Mirren will be 15 days without a game when they take on the champions.  During this period, they will have been able to do some endurance training and get plenty rest before what will be a committed 90 minutes’ effort.  They will not be easy to overcome.

Whatever motivational chat Ange Postecoglou gives before a game, it cannot always have the same intensity.  I expect he fully animated the players for the games against Real and Shakhtar, but words overused lose their affect.  Can he really whip them up for St Mirren?  I doubt it, in fact, I don’t even think he should.

Our baseline performance must be substantial enough to pick the points in Paisley.  The next big emotional effort is three weeks away, save the inspiration for then.  One more push before the break.

Hearts fans leaders refuse to slam jeers

HEARTS fans leaders today refused to condemn yobs who jeered during a minute’s silence for Pope John Paul II at yesterday’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

Several of the club’s most prominent supporters today rounded on the minority who sullied Hearts’ name during the showpiece match against Celtic, which was beamed around the world by Sky television.

They demanded tough action against those who booed and jeered during the tribute. Six people were charged with sectarian aggravated breach of the peace following events at the match

  12. The ole MSM doing their best to get Ange to criticise the support.

Expect more of this at the game Sunday.

  13. Although the blog’s subject matter is diverse its fundamental rationale is to discuss all things Celtic.

Simple questions re banners and self explanatory answers.

Do such banners enhance Celtic’s reputation?

Do such banners detract from our performance on the park.?

Do such banners help Ange and the players ?

Do such banners delight our enemies.?

Do such banners constitute a mega own goal ?

Do such banners delight and encourage current and potential sponsors?

Do such banners crave attention seeking ?

Do such banners embarras Celtic football club ?

Are such banners beneficial to brand Celtic?

Im all for free speech and absolutely defend the right of individuals to fly such banners. But have the courage of your convictions and fly them from your living room window.

    If not why not ?

Dont fly them in the name of Celtic football club.

I did. It was as bad as I have witnessed in all my time.

But Ernie, who seems to know everything including who are the drug dealers who sit in the posh seats at Celtic apparently, advised us that it was typical of what happens at all our away games in Europe.

    Of course they challenged Ange.

Maybe it was because of what a group of attention seekers did on Wednesday in the name of the club.

Naturally folk will seek to clarify the clubs position on it and that if any senior people at the club.

  17. I think the banner was wrong because there are so many folk in these parts who support the monarchy which is their choice and right. We have moved a long way in terms of all of that – this sets it back a long way. I play football on a Thursday will Unionists and for the first time in a long time I was tempted to not wear any Celtic insignia. It also distracted from an almost brilliant away performance in the Champions League. Poor Ange, he must be pretty peeved. Let’s either respect the minute’s applause or simply ignore it – but please don’t disrespect it. Indeed, listen to Ange himself.

“I think there’s a minute’s applause, and we’ll abide by whatever obligations and responsibilities we have as a football club. We’ll do that in a respectful manner. We want our supporters to do the same.”

Fair play to you. You are not far off with your mock exchange there Re sponsor / club. Except there is always a tipping point. An exchange of value / brand reputation.

Eg I know the effort put in by both Celtic and Rangers on social policies to convince Coors that Celtic and Rangers were not utterly toxic for Carling to put their name on the shirts. Weird given Coors ethical and employee records at that time but hey it needed a strong guy to make a bold decision at a time when Celtic had no plan B for a shirt sponsor for the following year and rangers has a local flooring company offering half. It ended up being a 7 year partnership but it could as easily not have happened if the current dynamic was in play.

NB I am 100% certain calls will have been made.

    Our route to last 16

    Leipzig v Celtic draw 1 point…

I think there’s sequence of results that could see us get through with 7 points.

  23. Maybe those at St Mirren will at least listen to the words of our excellent manager who as an Aussie may well have no great love for the monarchy ?

I haven’t seen the klopp interview but Ange has been brilliant this week, as usual. I wonder if the character who asked him three questions today about the fans on Wednesday, will ask similar type questions to GVB🤔.
