When to whip and when to not

454

After the adrenaline-fuelled dramas that a return to the Champions League after five long years provided, Celtic are off to Paisley on Sunday.  There will be an inevitable drop-off in in energy levels, the players are not machines, after all, as we take on an opponent with more robust objective from the game.

While Celtic have four days to recover and prepare, St Mirren will be 15 days without a game when they take on the champions.  During this period, they will have been able to do some endurance training and get plenty rest before what will be a committed 90 minutes’ effort.  They will not be easy to overcome.

Whatever motivational chat Ange Postecoglou gives before a game, it cannot always have the same intensity.  I expect he fully animated the players for the games against Real and Shakhtar, but words overused lose their affect.  Can he really whip them up for St Mirren?  I doubt it, in fact, I don’t even think he should.

Our baseline performance must be substantial enough to pick the points in Paisley.  The next big emotional effort is three weeks away, save the inspiration for then.  One more push before the break.

There is still a lot of evolving to do.

Most of it from the British Government and especially after Brexit and its grief stricken cry of racism

We await and see what democracy brings

As we know democracy is only of use

If it is carried out according to the wishes of its people

And as the rump of empire retreats to its racist core

Democracy has to keep an eye on those who would subvert it.

  2. The Green Brigade once had a banner exclaiming – “we’re in here for you, be out there for us”

The sole relationship was between supporter and player.

Hoping to see that sentiment tomorrow.

Plenty of Celtic banners, oodles of Celtic songs.

    Oh, and 3 points please

  3. with the nation in mourning, it is going to take a mighty world shattering event to displace the royals from the front pages.

Maybe Putin getting bumped off, or Trump getting arrested,

but the Daily Record has nailed it today, the headline that will see a sold out circulation today and a reprint tomorrow

“Warrant issued for ec-celt anthony Stokes”

    feck em all.

  6. I have purposely avoided our national broadcaster and the 2 independents ( Sky and ITV ) for the past 8 days.

I have heard of corgi dog breakers with no connection to the Queen being interviewed about the breed and Fijian fathers of pall bearers being searched out. Absolute bonkers stuff.

I do wonder has anyone asked about the technology behind keeping a body in a box and in public glare for 10 days (even if embalmed) without it totally reeking and decomposing ? Morbid and horrible stuff but it seems a bit tricky to me.

Therefore I also wonder if anyone has questioned if the royal body is actually in the box at all ?

Sky Sports have been warned about broadcasting offensive chants from Celtic fans during Sunday’s Scottish Premiership fixture with St Mirren. Sections of Hoops supporters unveiled controversial banners relating to the Queen’s death during a Champions League game with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

BT Sport were forced to apologise this week when their cameras honed in on a banner that read: “F*** THE CROWN.” The planned one-minute silence was abandoned following a pre-match meeting between Celtic, Shakhtar and UEFA.

Rangers, meanwhile, defied orders from European football’s governing body by belting out the national anthem before their clash with Napoli. No action was taken against the Gers, although UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Celtic.

According to The Daily Mail, Sky Sports production staff have already been warned that they may have to mute Celtic fans during this weekend’s trip to St Mirren

Hmmm.. I guess we should just throw some shards of glass on to the field of play &, attack the opposition players as a form of protest. All totally fine ofcourse. In fact I am pretty sure we will be commended for it

Can I suggest that you go back to the start of this thread and read the quote from Rosa Luxemburg?

Then maybe give some thought to whether it wouldn’t be more appropriate for Celtic fans to be telling the individual who owns and controls the club to go and fuck himself.

  10. B78- Never in my 60 years have I enjoyed the football Celtic is playing like I am this season. I know there are thousands of others who feel similar. I really hope we get that big breakthrough that Ange and the team behind him and the management who backed him get their rewards.

    AT I agree :-)

B78-For once putting a prediction of 4 or 5 nil for Sunday does not feel like hope over expectation.

AT- I don’t gamble B78,I take nothing forecasted and we work very hard for a Celtic victory.i am happy there.the goals give added excitement

B78- I do realise some on the blog are not seeing these as great Celtic times and that for me is a real shame.

AT- enjoying every minute of graft and work we are putting in,getting its reward in flair tactics and elan

B78- If ever we have a team playing in the mythical Celtic way then it is now before our very eyes. I for one am looking forward to every kick of the ball / fast throw in / quick taken corner and goals of any type.

    AT I agree :-)

B78-This is the main reason I don’t want the other lot afforded a single bit of energy. Not a single deflecting cause to drive their recovery and engagement between Club and fans.

AT-we differ here slightly,on the football park ‘themmuns’ are another 90 minutes.dealt with as we seen last week. We,as we are doing so at the moment look after Celtic,we do that they become an afterthought.

The cultural oldfrim is dead.i see no reason to have any equivalence with them. This is not a 2012 thing this is me today, via Ange getting enthused by football that is ours, and with focus on what we do and to do it right on the park.like you as a 60 year old I feel as tho I am coming home from the 69 4-0 final as a kid again, knowing and feeling we had a team.like you uits a wonderful feeling

B78-The engagement of our fans / team / manager / board has never been so aligned and strong. That can be such a critical factor helping us create something really amazing.

AT- I agree. That critical change came from the higher echelons of the club.I agree One Celtic.we can only get better.Dont ever stop that critical path of Celtics direction,as I said above I have the confidence of that 6 y.o again

B78-We have a few other things which will work for us Re the CL and the World Cup but that’s all to come.

AT- always the way,b teams, ins out, next window, players back uninjured, loanees back and tons more, there’s always more, work to do,get on and do it

B78-These are special Celtic times for us all to enjoy. HH

AT-Agreed b78.You and I do not differ on much.

I hope you understand I would not have done the banner.any comment I make are on its aftermath(the bolted horse) and the handwringin done.

We can’t unsee it.we await uefa sanction, but I do not think it will detract from the never stop,if anything it will be dealt with by it.

    Hail Hail keep enjoying :-)

  11. 5 -1 tomorrow as it will be tight😂and make St Midden will defend as if to kill the game of football.

IMHO … Pep is either nuts or a genius in the Mozart or Van Gogh mould.

His team go 2 up after 17 minutes away from home.

During second goal celebrations camera pans to touchline.

Instead of the usual group salmon leap from the dugout …

… there’s Pep gesticulating furiously to his staff about summat.

  13. Don Robertson tomorrow, he of the throwing his hands up at a straight red card offence, where he never gave a foul in a Sevco game and several violent challenges on Celtic players which were also not properly dealt with.

Tomorrow the Celtic away support need to be smart for although the mics might be off mobiles will be in abundance waiting to capture any reference to present events.

I’m sure it has been said before but I will say it again, if Rangers cared about HM The Queen why the tax evasion resulting in their liquidation? Sevco of course are not the same club but if someone wants a title on a banner may I suggest that.

As an Irishman I have no time for the British or any other monarchy.

However, I will neither celebrate nor mock the death of Queen Elizabeth. The death of anyone is not an occasion for celebration in my view.

I actually think that a lot of the frankly bizarre reaction of the British people reflects a deep affection for the individual rather than the monarchy and a return to normalcy will see the continuing diminution of the reputation of the institution, including accelerated full independence for former colonies.

I hope that the GB and away support in Paisley give the media nothing more to use as a stick against us. A positive display tomorrow may ameliorate any UEFA punishment re Warsaw.
