“Where’s the signings” chat

223

The players are back in town training and there’s’ already a bit of “where’s the signings” chat.  We are five weeks away from the season starting, nine away from the first derby game and over eleven away from the start of the Champions League campaign.  Patience is not always rewarded, but it is constantly needed.

Players available this early in the window are either out of contract, unwanted by their current club, or high risk.  There is a time for Celtic to engage in all of the above, but if you were in charge, is this where you would want Celtic to shop?

Clubs selling a top talent want to test the market to the fullest.  With one keen buyer on the hook, that means touting the player around hoping that a bigger fish is left short late in the window and bites at a higher price.  They will also want backfill lined up.

If you are in charge and you know you are going to need to wait until late in the window for top talent, would you go down your list to ‘get the players in early’?  How far down would you go?

If you are in the angry blogger business; Christmas comes in the early summer.  The rest of us just need to wait for the tinsel.

You can only sign players if they want to come to Scotland and their club is willing to let them go.

    Agreed 100%. ☑️

Whilst some may say that’s simple common sense you’re talking, others will totally ignore your very valid point and continue to moan about the lack of quality signings.

Perhaps one of those moaning and complaining, eg that we haven’t signed up Joe Hart’s replacement yet, would care to discuss or even debate your very valid point.

Though I won’t hold my breathe.

william buick is making a rare appearance at hamilton tomorrow.

he has 3 rides all with great chances.

so take the day off work, sell some of the family silver and go gambling with a big pile of cash!

but remember – when the fun stops, start.

(also, the value of your investment can go down as well as even downer 👎)

  4. BB – agree on that. The refs watch them doing it but do nothing about it. I think most of the issues just now are caused by refs not applying the basic rules and players in the mist part, believing they are bomb proof.

  5. SFtBs, CELTIC40ME…

Most managers/head coaches have there strengths and weaknesses…

Brendan Rodgers has something to prove in Europe and says he intends to do so at Celtic, so we’ll see.

Celtic are showing all the signs of moving on from the jobs for the bhoys, parochial, amateur mindset and in 2024 look like a club that are taking football serious again.

The first time since they appointed MO’N 24 years ago…

Of course it’s early days and this summer transfer window will be a clear indication of how serious we are…

Yet Adam Sadler as a coach, Mark Cooper as a Scout, Darren O’Dea as player pathway manager are this year’s appointments so far.

That is medium and longterm planning initiatives, that can build on next seasons record turnover and profits.

With Lennoxtown and Barrowfield upgrades on the go, the first such projects in twenty years there is joined up thinking and ambition showing.

Let’s hope the seasons of blame culture and excuses are behind us and Celtic drive forward…

    Hail Hail

A blonde woman sick of hearing how blondes are perceived as stupid decides, that when her husband leaves for work next day she will paint the two bedroom apartment. Late afternoon her husband, arrives and finds her lying in a pool of sweat, wearing a ski jacket and fur coat.”What are you doing” he asks his wife, she replies” I’m painting the apartment” and he asks of her” Why are you wearing a ski jacket and fur coat?” looking up at him she responds ” I was looking at the instructions on the can and it said for best results put on two coats”

Ronaldo has taken 63 free kicks in major tournaments- 1 goal

Just started watching it in ET , but that’s a stunning stat@

Brendan isn’t a Tier 1 manager. It undermines the rest of your argument when you double down on something that’s clearly not true

  9. !!Bada Bing!! on

Ronaldo embarrassing again, in tears, game has 15 minutes left, all about him…

  10. CELTIC40ME @ 10:21 PM,

Where did I double down on anything?

How does that undermine the “rest of my argument”?

You’re starting to make things up again aren’t you?

    Hail Hail

  11. I like Ronaldo. Huge strength of character

    I.

I would be happy if Portugal or Spain win it.

    The commentators Anglify everything.

    And they dislike the bhoy.

Don’t forget him buying our celts drinks in his pub.

Accuse me of making stuff up while using stuff like Brendan being a Tier 1 manager to make a point is a bit rich

Its hardly a serious debate if it includes clear falsehoods

  13. CELTIC40ME @ 10:48 PM,

Well care to explain your point?

My point was your argument was bogus and had little to do with my comment.

And remember, Brendan Rodgers was offered the Spurs job before Ange.

Just because he turned it down and went to Celtic, doesn’t make him an inferior manager.

It is a very English argument, yet Brendan Rodgers isn’t English

Brendan Rodgers knows that Celtic are a more prestigious Club than Tottenham

    Haul Hail

  14. CHAIRBHOY on 1ST JULY 2024 10:59 PM

“Well care to explain your point?”

Once more. My point was and is that Brendan isn’t a Tier 1 manager. Using it undermines the rest of your argument, it suggests that you will use clear falsehoods to win an argument. It reduces the debate to extremes that no one believes. It’s not a serious way of discussing what’s best for Celtic.

Unless you really do believe it. Do you?

  15. CELTIC40ME @ 11:05 PM,

Brendan Rodgers is clearly a Teir 1 manager.

Just cause you don’t rate him doesn’t mean he isn’t.

How many of these leagues’ current managers are better than Brendan?

    Premier League

    Ligue 1

    Bundesliga

    La Liga

    Serie A

Maybe the very top; the world class managers, the current elite managers’ outside that Brendan is very much in that company, he is easily a Teir 1 manager

    Hail Hail

  16. It’s all just a load of squabbling and one-upmanship isn’t it

Not really to be taken seriously.

  17. So there’s a Tier above Tier 1 is there? What’s that called?

He’s a very good Celtic manager, arguably an excellent one but he clearly doesn’t have the managerial record of a Tier 1 manager. Or the status of one after getting Leicester relegated and getting the sack.

  18. CHAIRBHOY on 1ST JULY 2024 11:30 PM

    CELTIC40ME,

    Well you started it;)

Nope, you did with talk of Tier 1 managers to make your point.
