Wherewithal to even come second in doubt among the rest

258

Saturday was one of those days when your players descend from various corners of the globe to resume domestic duty with an away fixture – and win – while our nearest three rivals all lose at home after resting for two weeks.

Motherwell have now ‘done’ Aberdeen twice this season; more about them later in the week. Hibs may still finish second in the table, but pushing the champions all the way counts for nothing if you can be mugged at home by a St Johnstone team who had not scored in six games, picking up only a single point in the process. Hibs are better than this, but Neil Lennon needs to find the consistency sauce. Second place is there for whoever gets their act together.

And what about Newco? Murty came so close. It’s been a year since they won three consecutive games and all regular interim manager Graeme Murty needed to do was beat Hamilton Accies at home and he would have broken through the glass ceiling. Unfortunately, the men from the SuperSeal Stadium are made of sterner stuff and gubbed their hosts 0-2.

Only one team has the wherewithal to win the title, but it doesn’t look like anyone else has the stomach for the battle for second place.

So our next 3 domestic games are against Motherwell. All 3 will be tough (physically) but I expect at least 2 wins and possibly a draw.

We are undoubtedly a far superior football team than them but their agricultural approach will threaten injury to some of our players – Forrest, Tierney and Sinclair in particular who will be targeted; Paddy Roberts too if he gets a start.

The MIB’s will also be in a position to influence by lax refereeing and allowing the “robust” and “physical” approach from Motherwell. Both are euphemisms used by the SMSM to prepare for what will happen, particularly on Sunday, in an attempt to stop back to back Trebles.

Hopefully we will be on song and a quick passing game at Hampden will be enough to take the physicality and MIB’s out of the equation. That will be more difficult at Fir Park next mid-week but normal service should resume Saturday week when we take them back to Celtic Park for what I hope will be a well deserved humping!

The Fir Park pitch is unrecognisable from the corrugated pasture of recent seasons.

This should be to our benefit, although we will have to stand up to their twin triumph cards, Brute Force and Ignorance.

  5. Reality is starting to sink in over on FF :)

    ——

The huge glaring problem with an otherwise initially sensible post is we’re not getting there, we’re treading water, stagnating, we’ve just sacked our manager who spunked 8m on dross we need soft loans to keep the lights on for the next two seasons, we have fuck all to spend no real player assets, a board who has waited so long for a share issue it will be swallowed up repaying/converting loans, a potless conman in charge and a board so inept they appointed pedro in the first place, you would need to be unhinged and separated from reality to think we are getting anywhere.

    ——–

Still can’t believe some still argue we’re better than last season, it really isn’t the case.

    13 games this season – 24 points

    13 games last season – 23 points

Last season was a harder fixture list, away to Aberdeen and the scum, the only 2 defeats in that spell. Lost three games this season. We actually won 5 of the next 6 games last season. Not a chance we are doing that when the fixtures are Dundee(A) Aberdeen(H) Aberdeen(A) Ross County(H) Hibs(A) and ST Johnstone(H) coming up.

Millions spent on garbage, even the players being hyped aren’t a big improvement on last season. As much as Morelos is potential and could turn out to be a fantastic signing, Waghorn had more goals than him last season after same amount of games. Obviously he’s far better than that diddy, but there is no real improvement based on performances, results and statistics!

  8. Even a poster calledThe Godfather on FF who apparently has achieved club legend status with his 27,442 posts knows it is all over:

    ——-

We can’t really look at the past and try to compare it to now.

Scottish football was coming into an era where we had some of the better footballers in Britain and could bring those types here. That simply won’t be happening anymore as the gap is increasing every year between us and the richer clubs.

Scottish football is on it’s arse and it won’t be getting up again as things stand. No wealthy businessman will see us as a attractive option as we don’t make enough profit. Then you have the ones who buy clubs for a hobby but again we won’t be seeing CL football without a heavy investment and are playing catch-up to a club miles ahead in terms of finance.

Simply put we are in a dark place where Ranger’s men aren’t willing to pony up so what chance is there that some unknown will?

We all know the answer and where we are headed but the reality is too harsh for some of us to admit.

  9. BRTH,

Sad to read about your cousin Stephen.

    R.I.P.

I lost ALL that I held dear back in 2009 thru no fault of my own.

I’m just grateful for being able to pull thru and having a roof over my head, and although my health has became worse, I’m still here/// and other parts of my life have became better including meeting many new friends via CQN.

  10. sorry not a football thingy just been looking at the archives of my local church our lady and st josephs glenboig. when i came across this little gem of information. In the year 1560 Catholic worship and the profession of the Catholic faith were made illegal by the Scots Parliament. well nicola stick your snp where the sun dont shine.

  11. VFR @2.23.

Thanks for your response. In a perfect world your vision of an independent Scotland would be spot on but some pragmatism may be required.

I am a republican but I am willing to wait a while before the crown is binned. A clear water tight policy on a future Scottish currency has to be formulated. I worry about where the money for snp’s progressive (don’t laugh) policies is coming from but I am not aware of any current politician with the moral fortitude to promote a policy of increased taxation across all income levels.

Just don’t see how personal attacks on NS aids the discussion. To many voters she’s doing a reasonable job. I think Richard Leonard has a huge task on his hands if he is to turn Labour’s fortunes around at Holyrood.

    All the best.

Just saw you were in the Fiddler Irish pub, home of the Dresden CSC, watching the game (Ross County v Celtic, Live updates). If you are still here, or visiting again, please introduce yourself and you’ll be made very welcome. Obviously, this request is for everyone! We don’t get many visitors to the frozen wastelands of East Germany, but all are welcome!

I was there last December to watch a game on a Friday night, lads made me very welcome in a strange city, thats the great thing about the Celtic family, theres always a friendly face in the most unusual of places

We’ll also have to stand up to their Donegal Captain from Leitir who is doing well for them I think.

My cousin coached at least one of his brothers at Keadue Rovers youths – good footballing family I believe.

  17. Big Packy I think that is a pretty sad post what on earth has what happened in 1560 to do with 2017 – 517 years ago. people who live in the past have no future, as a wise man once said. H H Hebcelt

  18. Philbhoy well spotted good to see you are paying attention,I’m sure you meant arithmetic 457 year then. H H Hebcelt

  19. The reaction to Jophes and BRTH says a lot about empathy on here. I can give a bit of insight into seeing people in situations not of their own making. Just over 30 years ago I had a huge cancer operation. As a consequence, after the op I had to have 8 sets of chemotherapy. I attended Belvoir Park Hospital every 3 weeks. Five days each third week—first day chemo, next four recovery and assessment/tests. I was next door to the children’s ward. Being a teacher and musician, with award in Art, I thought it would be good if I could go there and have some songs, teach a little bit of tin whistle, use tuned and untuned percussion for poetry and storytelling, everybody would have a good time. The doctors etc thought so too, so went into the ward to see some beautiful children, all stricken by the terrible disease of cancer.

I hadn’t,t led a sheltered life by any means. I,d been shot at, threatened with death by loyalist gangs, boxed, played to a decent standard at Gaelic and football, had my share of street fights and what have you.

A young man from the FallsRoad, nothing could annoy me.

    I lasted 10 minutes. I just couldn’t,t hack it.

So, when all the children who have been helped by CQN are regularly remembered, Igoback to that time.

Then you have other posters with problems being counselled on here.

Those who are afflicted in later life were once children.

When we pray for the children of today, we are also praying for their future.

I just hope this doesn’t,t sound like a sermon. It,s not meant to be.

  20. A bit of very unfair criticism being levelled at Scott Sinclair I feel. The guy is an artiste who needs the best surfaces to showboat his skills and best surfaces are difficult to find in Scotland this time of the year, Add to that, other teams too, know we like playing silky fast flowing football, so ask, are they going to prepare their pitches to allow us to do that, no, don’t think so!!

On another topic, but it’s sad to admit, but I get a huge amount of enjoyment seeing hunman suffer the way they are doing, i’m just loving their hurt. Than God I’m an atheist!!

    KINGLuBO

  21. KINGLUBO

I am loving their pain too!

I can’t make up my mind if I want them to suffer long term or just fold and be done with now.

    mmmmmmmmmmm

  22. Hebcelt

Agreed. Almost everyone on here has the wherewithal to live in the past. How about no more indulgences in religion , Jesus, Catholicism, the reformation, Scotland, Lisbon, feb 2012 when the Huns died but didny.

We both know all of it is a pile of old codswallop. Onto the patriotless bigot free educated future says Me.
