Who we are and our values

1097

For some months now, a CQN’er and academic has prepared a project to identify who we, the Celtic support, are in 2014, what our views are, where we come from and how closely our objectives align with the Club.

The project takes the form of a questionnaire, which asks some personal questions, like your political leanings, intentions for the Referendum, faith, education and ethnic heritage.  No sign-up is involved and no identifying information is available.

There are also questions on the Offensive Behaviour Act, as well as the Club’s response to Resolution 12, The Green Brigade and the Living Wage.

The objective is to determine why you support Celtic and whether these reasons are being recognised and served.

I know Celtic have held similar surveys in the past but I’m not aware of a recent academic survey into these questions.  The survey will close on Friday 26th September and results will be reported thereafter.

As with all surveys, the more people who participate the more reflective the results will be, so please 10 minutes to get involved.  You’ll find the survey here.

If you have any questions for the author in relation to the survey please email cqn.survey@orange.fr

Thanks.

Pertaining to the above are allegations made about Aleks Tonev over the weekend.

It’s difficult to see where this one goes if the player says “I didn’t say that” without corroboration either way.  Despite this, the allegation is damaging to Celtic, and to the player, so an internal and public reaction is needed to reiterate the values of the club.

Celtic’s induction process should be clear what is and is not acceptable.

  1. THOUSANDS of Scot’s will lose their jobs in the Defence and Shipbuilding sectors post yes vote.

STILL no answer from the seperatists as to how they will be re-employed?

    That’s a few hours now.

Paul67 just filled in survey, good to see a survey being introduced the results should be very interesting. Wonder how many of us on cqn are grumpy old men or in a mid life crisis :-)

Survey, yip, no problem with that in principle, but…

I didn’t get the impression that the questions asked were neutral, indeed, most were assumptive, and some provided no room for a valid alternative answer – that I would have provided had there been space.

So… not too sure what academic value the results will show, but then, I’m not an academic, happily.

I cannot guarantee that a Yes vote won’t lead to a reduction in defence-related jobs and investment, whether short term or permanent.

And/but you can’t guarantee that a No vote would secure them either!

I’m not sure that local business around kinloss would derive much comfort or income from the detail of the base being mothballed rather than closed.

Oil in the firth of clyde which cannot be got at because of Trident remains there and is an industry waiting to be created.

Lose Trident and we get access to that.

It’s in the national archive, Chic Brodie did the research (if you like I can post a link) and Jim Sillars keeps on telling people all about as did Tommy Sheridan yesterday. Whenever it is brought up on TV, the subject is promptly changed.

We will need to build supply vessels, oil rigs and the like to get it out and support that new industry. Manufacturing will be required.

    There you go.

You really are a right laugh.

Shipbuilding. Is that what is left after the UK’s desteruction of said industry! You make me laugh.

Right. Can you please post in detail these thousands of jobs, locations from where jobs will be lost, which shipyards will close etc. then I will attempt too make a decent fist of answering your all encompassing frightful fearful question.

Go on. Surely you have all the detail at hand and can type it up with reference\s in 10 minutes for me to then allow me to research and get back to you.

Good idea on the survey.Getting ideas of how we are thinking and moving foward is vital. When will the reults be published.

Communication from and to our club needs to be brought into the 21st century

Surveys are important but interaction on digital forums with Celtic and the support I would hope come into being, maybe as part of a membership scheme.heres hoping

  9. Survey completed and interesting to reflect on my own motivations and views.

I am definitely more Irish than I had previously realised .. I’m a leftie and I feel we are better off without Rangers.. Obviously I feel the club could be better run.

I don’t know Shay Logan but I’ve met him. I know a couple of his team mates. He’s a decent character by all accounts.

Which of the following best expresses your opinion on “The Offensive Behaviour at Football” Act

It is an attack on civil liberties

It is an attack on football fans

It is an attack on Celtic supporters

It is an attack on Catholics

It is an attempt to reduce offensive and sectarian behaviour from Scottish society

    No opinion

That’s a fairly leading set of options to select from, and a wholly incomplete set at that. I’d suggest that there is some doubt as to the academic value of any answer provided.

Sorry Bhoys, rigs used to be built in Scotland however these days most drilling rigs / semi subs are bulit in the far east. Unless Scotland can compete on quality ,delivery timings and most importantly cost not a chance of anyone building oil rigs or supply vessels in the UK let alone Scotland. Again not wishing to labour the point – just because we know oil is there doesn’t mean it is worth getting ( a point that both BP and Shell made within the past couple of weeks) It is all down to risk and reward if it is deemed profitable someone will take a risk in exploting the reserves.

I notice that the survey questionnaire asks whether the respondent is male or female.

    Isn’t that discriminatory?

Surely there should be an option of ‘other’?

I’m thinking of course of S.1(4)(f) of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 and its reference to transgender identity.

INDEPENDENCE: Yes vote to spark pension crisis at RBS

The Sunday Times reports that Royal Bank of Scotland could face a funding gap of up to £5.6bn in its pension scheme if Scotland votes for independence.

Many of Britain’s biggest companies could also be affected, according to analysis by Credit Suisse.

It is feared that a Yes vote could also lead to heavy job losses in Scotland’s shipbuilding and engineering industries.

BAE Systems employs 3,000 highly skilled workers in Scotland and chairman Sir Roger Carr pointed out that since the Second World War the Government has no history of ordering warships from ‘foreign lands’.

He cautioned that independence would make Scotland a foreign country and ‘therefore orders that we currently look forward to are unlikely to be placed’.

The Mail on Sunday features a comment article by CBI director-general John Cridland, who looks at the implications of independence. He notes that MoD contracts bring employment to 14,000 people and that Babcock, which owns Rosyth Dockyard, has cautioned that independence could mean the end of its Royal Navy contracts. BAE Systems and Thales have expressed similar concerns.
