Who we are and our values

1097

For some months now, a CQN’er and academic has prepared a project to identify who we, the Celtic support, are in 2014, what our views are, where we come from and how closely our objectives align with the Club.

The project takes the form of a questionnaire, which asks some personal questions, like your political leanings, intentions for the Referendum, faith, education and ethnic heritage.  No sign-up is involved and no identifying information is available.

There are also questions on the Offensive Behaviour Act, as well as the Club’s response to Resolution 12, The Green Brigade and the Living Wage.

The objective is to determine why you support Celtic and whether these reasons are being recognised and served.

I know Celtic have held similar surveys in the past but I’m not aware of a recent academic survey into these questions.  The survey will close on Friday 26th September and results will be reported thereafter.

As with all surveys, the more people who participate the more reflective the results will be, so please 10 minutes to get involved.  You’ll find the survey here.

If you have any questions for the author in relation to the survey please email cqn.survey@orange.fr

Thanks.

Pertaining to the above are allegations made about Aleks Tonev over the weekend.

It’s difficult to see where this one goes if the player says “I didn’t say that” without corroboration either way.  Despite this, the allegation is damaging to Celtic, and to the player, so an internal and public reaction is needed to reiterate the values of the club.

Celtic’s induction process should be clear what is and is not acceptable.

  1. Just a thought before I actually do some work – Paul/others, on Thursday would it be pertinent to have TWO threads on the go? One for the Celtic and the other for the referendum.

With the Salzburg game and the big vote I fear we’re going to be mangled with conflicting political posts and footie discussion choking the life from each other. Best to split ino 2 simultaneous threads? Make it clear there’s a football-only one?

    Just a thought.

I reckon once the vote is on we will suspend politics while Celtic is on and then revert.

Anyone posting about anything other than Celtic during a game needs a good slap.

Especially Yes voters-oops,did that just sneak out?

Kidding about the latter but serious about the former.

  4. “If the opinion polls showed a lack of support for Dodgy Dave, who would be the next leader of the Con party and likely Prime Minister ? how many predicted Margaret Thatcher as Prime minister, how many predicted Barack Obama as President ? ”

The difference is, that at the point all of those events happened there were any number of possible candidates already influentially involved in their respective political arenas. All experienced operators with a track record of working in the upper echelons of their parties and government set-ups. The only real choice came down to which one from a known shortlist of potential candidates could make the best offering in the selection process.

In the case of this fledgling government with well under 2 years to go, nobody on the YES side can even offer ANY names at all.

Just the same tired old soundbites of “It will be alright on the night” hogwash.

  5. Just realised the Tories haven’t won an election in the UK for 22 years (John Major, 1992, Majority just 21 seats).

When people say “We never get the government we vote for” – were they all voting Tory at the time?

    :-)

  6. My Maw and Dad are not happy at all wi ma sister and brother-in-law.

They are really offended that because they have voted naw my sister has been calling them stupid and telling them they don’t know what they are talking about then launching into nationalist sound bites.

I’ve made sure the nephews and neices have not been brainwashed by their parents, turns out they’re sick of their separitists dogma too …………………that’s cool.

What a funny beastie you are!

A complex mix of the wonderfully idealistic and aspiring and the cynical realist.

And much though I love you I’ll be glad you’re down south on thus!!!

  8. There is no concrete evidence that Tonev was racially abusive . In spite of that, I am inclined to believe he must have been. I cannot believe Shay Logan would make it up. It is too serious an accusation .

    Post whatever you like.

I don’t believe things are running down or as bad as some people think or say.

If they were truly in terminal decline we’d have been given independence.

From the minute and hour oil was discovered we’ve had people telling us it was going to disappear soon.

There IS oil and gas on the West coast and with Independence by hook or by crook we will get access to it creating jobs with it and change the lives of people on the West coast for the better.

The idea that oil companies won’t want it or will just leave it where it is because of some difficulties that can be over come with effort and endeavor just does not ring true.

I’d rather we got independence and tried to get it and use it, set up an oil fund for however long is left of it and use it to invest as much as possible in the nation’s future before whatever is left is squandered by those same groups who have wasted the last 40 years of it.

    ==

I guess then it is a matter of blind faith then. To ignore the facts (produced by organizations who have little interest in or allegiance to the UK or an independent Scotland) is your choice. I have worked in the oil industry in an exploration and completion capacity for over 20 years so have a fairly reasonable understanding how things work. Basically if it costs $60 (including all associated costs) to produce a barrel of oil and you sell it pre tax for $95.00 exploitation of that field is uneconomic. There just isn’t enough of a profit margin to warrant the risk and outlay. Say what you want but that is how the industry operates. Why would an operator send billions exploiting a high risk reservoir where for a fraction of the production costs associated with the high risk fields profits can be maximized in a relatively benign environment elsewhere. Will oil reserves in Scottish North Atlantic waters become more cost effective in the future? The billion dollar question.

  11. I suppose it has been asked before but if we are Better Together and we are Together now, now must be Better. Pretty silly to vote for change when everything is so Hunky Dorey……..or so it would seem.

    The others are nurture.

I prefer nurture but it’s a struggle at times!

    Tell that to…. SPIDERS!

If Scotland votes yes, there could be spiders everywhere. In your shower in your hair. On your pillow. Alex Salmond hasn’t denied this.

Vote “No Thanks” to spiders. (thumbsup)

I’m fully expecting to see those words superimposed on a scary spider and used in a FaceBook meme to demonstrate that Better Together is trying to scare everyone. “Look at what they’re telling us now!!! Project Fear!!”

  18. Lengthy item on Moroccan radio re the Swedish General Election .

Is that not the whole point of Esso’s exploration of these Calir Ridge at the moment and the current PM’s (shhhhhhhhhh!) secret holiday to the area lately.

Whether there is oil or not oil or dwindling stocks of oil, there is certainly enough to underwrite the UK’s mismanagement and debt interest payments to keep it interseted in us for the foreseeable future. Otherewise I doubt they would be that bothered for a wee a bit of tartan and shortbread.

  26. Oh my life….. Just read that Ian Paisley’s middle name was Kyle……
