‘WHO’S GOING TO BE THE NEW TONY WATT?’ ASKS ARMSTRONG

The Hoops go into the crucial Champions League meeting at Parkhead knowing they need a good result against the Catalans to keep European hopes alive before they take on Manchester City in the final Group C match next month.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have taken two points so far – in draws with Pep Guardiola’s side and Borussia Monchengladbach – and there will be no hiding place under the lights in the east end of Glasgow in midweek.

Neil Lennon’s outfit overcame Barca 2-1 at Parkhead just over four years ago with Tony Watt the matchwinner – and Armstrong is looking for someone to fulfil a similar role this week.

The in-form midfielder said: “I don’t care who it is who become the new Tony Watt – as long as it’s someone!”

And Armstrong also insisted the team have absorbed some of the lessons from that record-low 7-0 defeat in the Catalan capital in September.

He said: “We have a chance to redeem ourselves on Wednesday after the disappointing away game.

“We’re looking forward to it, but we can’t forget that game in the Nou Camp entirely. We don’t want to dwell on it, either, but it’s important we learn from it and make sure we don’t make the same mistakes again.

“That one game didn’t set a trend for the rest of them. We had good performances against Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach.

“We showed we had learned. But let’s not forget Barcelona are a top quality team. They are one of – if not the – best in the world.

“But, in saying that, the way we lost was so disappointing. We’ve improved since then and, hopefully, we bring that in to Wednesday.

“If we want to be in Europe after Christmas then we need to take something from the game. Every game in the Champions League is a must win.”
