Brendan Rodgers is a master of what to say and what not to say. Blame, well, “I can’t fault the players”. So not the players then. He adds, “However, if you want to progress, then, as I said, you need to bring in quality.” Is that pointing the finger of blame? There’s plausible deniability; I’m sure if asked directly, Brendan would wax lyrical about the support he received from Dermot and Michael, but plausible deniability does not cut through publicly in football. You, me and Brendan know that.
Martin O’Neill made it clear at an AGM 20-something years ago. With Dermot Desmond sitting a few seats along from him, he explained that it was not his job to worry about development, finances or sustainability. His job, as he saw it, was to campaign for better players. It was up to the board to hold their line and worry about what they needed to worry about. Martin was always charmingly frank.
The upshot for today is a degree of urgency which means the manager will inevitably get what he wants, just like last summer, when we spent £26m on Idah, Engels and Trusty. Celtic have the money to back Brendan like this again, I fully expect they will.

David Clifford Presents Signed Kerry Jersey To Brendan Rodgers At Parkhead
By Donny Mahoney
Dec 23, 2023
Kerry dynamo David Clifford is a noted Celtic supporter, and he was at Parkhead today as Celtic rumbled into the festive season with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Livingston.
Stephenbhoybhoy,
On our bid for Breum. We initially bid,£1.5 million. They said”NAW”,£6.5 million.
We put in a second offer of,£1.75 million.FFS.They said,”NAW”,£6.5 million.
We put in a third offer of,£3 million, again,FFS.They said”,NAW”£6.5 million.
Whats next,we asking if they will take £50 bids?.Working away hard.Aye right.
A fekin embarrassment. As was our pathetic bid to land,Munteanu, half the asking.
What a long, long, long piece of pash posted at 4.41. Just how long does it actually take to write that amount of pash, knowing that just about everyone scrolls by? Took me much longer than usual to scroll on by!
Ah well, the wee soul probably feels better about himself for a minute or two.
Meanwhile, back in our real world, our new signings will be able to use the Falkirk game to help them bed in. Wont they?
See a few of the Celtic Blogs are excited we could be getting another cash windfall for the proposed Juranovic transfer !!!!!.
Are they fekin thick?WTF difference will that make?An increase in the amount in the bank only.
What happened to the Frimpong money?.
Kev J thinks we might be signing someone called Joe Blogs.

It is exactly the same, If Rodgers fails he will be sacked, same as you and I. If you worked in a cafe and the owners says dont worry i will purchases good meat then goes and buys cheap ass meat. Can you blame the chef when sales drop because the quality is rubbish? The chef may add a spice or two but its not gonna make much difference. Truth is, most cafe owners ain’t gonna buy rubbish if they have a thriving business. They are gonna buy decent goods to ensure people continue to visit. Our owners have a philosophy of doing everything for as little as possible. Supporters are treated worse than customers because the owners beleive we will accept any old rubbish due to loyalty to the club.
Evening all.
BRRB, good to see you posting, you sop.

Never change celtic, never change 🤣
Any word yet on who or will it be a guest to unfurl the flag on Sunday?
Steph I seriously thought that was a joke seen it on X obviously a wind up.
Burnley78 @ 3:20pm – thank you.
Point well made.
Facts from last season are as you say.
As a rebuttal, I routinely point to the previous season’s games.
We took 10 points from 12.
My theory?
We had to win these games that season to win the league. (The final standings prove that)
Last year, we didn’t need to (again the final standings bear that out).
I’m genuinely not that bothered about not winning games we dont need to win.
Its the ones we need to win (or are in a good position to win) that we do NOT win?
These matter.
Last season there were only a handful.
Zagreb, Bruges, Bayern away, Cup Final.
Incredible effort.
Don’t suppose anyone is interested in buying a car i am selling?
It’s worth £4k but will happily accept £6,500.

I like my jokes to be funny, there aint no laughing when it comes to celtics transfer dealings. You would think they would learn but apparently not. If the folk running the show are genuinely unable to get decent quality into the squad they should move aside and let someone else do the job in. If they are able to do the job they should step up and do it.

BTB,
Car analogies?.
See that £ 17 million car you sold, are you trying to replace it for £1.7 million?Best of luck.
Hope to God I am wrong in losing any confidence I ever had in this Board in the transfer market. Most on here seem to think I am.
That gives me a bit of hope, like hanging over a cliff clutching a blade of grass.Better than nothing.
Stephenbhoybhoy
Is he related to Mrs Slocombe’s Pusey?
TURKEYBHOY
From what I can guage reading this and other blogs , nervousness and distrust is quite widespread . You’re at the ‘panicky’ end of the scale and I’m somewhere in the middle . If I were you I would keep a tight hold on that blade of grass though !
Our Board saps the soul. Sit on hands and see if they can get away with spending squat diddly. As per usual. Bow to pressure as cheaply as possible. Man City youth team players to bloat out the squad and give Man C some development value. A young Dane in Holland who’s there if we’re willing to pay the money for him. Spoiler – we’re not.
Jim Farry had more vision and personality than the gerontocracy in our Boardroom. Don’t know how Rodgers puts up with them.
Cheers, TB.
I’m stretching the analogy to death here …
… but I never paid £17m for any car.
Heading to my scratcher but lots of angst and analogues tonight – feels like we might be alright as the real stuff starts soon.
I’m waiting until our real best team starts before drawing too many conclusions.
Good morning CQN.
SBB @ 10:15pm last night – Lol.
Apologies, missed that one last night.
Real business starts this Sunday.
Bring it on.
Totally get the frustration on the transfer front.
Personally I think we are short 3 first team candidates, maybe 4.
I just don’t get frustrated at the pace of signings or the outcome at window close any more.
Last time I did? was probably Brendan’s first ever window.
De Vries, Sinclair, Dembele, Toure and Gamboa … but not the midfielder I thought we needed.
Turned out not bad.
As for the board?
Their communication of their short, medium and long term goals is dreadful.
IMHO, they are stale and I believe SOME would be beneficial.
Baby and bathwater too. We make money and win trophies.
The money, directly or indirectly, comes from us fans.
Perhaps we all need to divert £20 each of our Celtic spend toward buying shares and getting a fan shareholding group organised and hitting 10%, then 20%, then, ideally, 31%.
As for transfer fee haggling and the tiresome “lowball” and “dithering” clichés routinely trotted out by the SMSM and the online rebels?
If i may I’ll share one of my favourite VFM in an inflationary market analogies.
Golden age of Hollywood. two movie producers bump into each other in the street and start talking.
“How’s business asks one?”
“Terrible” says the other. “I’ve no money and no material. My actors and directors are sitting around doing nothing.
Do you know any $100 dollar a week writers?”
“I know loads !
… but they are all earning $500 dollars a week”
Have a good one
Just in case some of the Celtic support don’t know ?
When the support sing the ” MAEDA” song, it is an old song called ” TEQUILA” that was released in 1958.
The song was played by a Group called ” THE CHAMPS”….
I have sometimes played that song on the Shipbanks Juke Box over the years.
HH.
Can someone remind me of our NEW Celtic Bhoys ” INAMURA and OSMAND” First names ?
Cheers in advance.

I get the frustration—sometimes even outright rage—about the pace of Celtic’s transfer activity. But let’s be honest: most of what’s reported in the media about bids and targets is pure speculation. Whether it’s journalists chasing clicks or agents trying to stir interest, the truth is rarely as clear-cut as it’s made out to be.
The idea that Celtic are “lowballing” clubs based on reported figures is, for the most part, nonsense. Clubs don’t publicly disclose exact bid amounts unless they’re trying to stir trouble or push an agenda. So why are we treating these numbers as gospel?
I’m no board apologist, but do we really want Celtic to pay over the odds just to get a deal done quickly? That kind of short-term thinking has long-term consequences. Clubs will use inflated fees as a benchmark in future negotiations. Just look at Manchester United—years of overpaying have made them a target for inflated demands.
Transfers are complex, multi-million-pound negotiations. Most of us, including the media, don’t have real insight into what’s going on behind the scenes. So let’s take a breath and trust (hope!) that the club is working within a strategy that protects its long-term interests.
The article posits it’s possible that football fans are addicted to the anxiety and stress of transfer windows:

Don’t usually get too uptight about who the hns have signed but the latest signing Antman from ( ironically enough go ahead eagles) definitely looks a player and one our scouts must have noticed if we’re after another player ( cheaper) from same team !!!….I hope we’re not making a complete fk up of this !!!!
