Why Brendan will get what he wants

Brendan Rodgers is a master of what to say and what not to say.  Blame, well, “I can’t fault the players”.  So not the players then.  He adds, “However, if you want to progress, then, as I said, you need to bring in quality.”  Is that pointing the finger of blame?  There’s plausible deniability; I’m sure if asked directly, Brendan would wax lyrical about the support he received from Dermot and Michael, but plausible deniability does not cut through publicly in football.  You, me and Brendan know that.

Martin O’Neill made it clear at an AGM 20-something years ago.  With Dermot Desmond sitting a few seats along from him, he explained that it was not his job to worry about development, finances or sustainability.  His job, as he saw it, was to campaign for better players.  It was up to the board to hold their line and worry about what they needed to worry about.  Martin was always charmingly frank.

The upshot for today is a degree of urgency which means the manager will inevitably get what he wants, just like last summer, when we spent £26m on Idah, Engels and Trusty.  Celtic have the money to back Brendan like this again, I fully expect they will.

According to one article by a supposed Celtic site , not only have the huns have paid out £5m for Antman, they’ve also scuppered Celtic’s chance of signing the other winger as Go ahead eagles won’t let both go !

I mean … where the feck do you even start with such pish !?

    I would sooner be,ieve a politician .

  2. There is negotiating and there is taking the p.ss.

In the same way as we would be insulted by a £10m bid for DM it is the same rule when we are buying. The reason we take so long is that we start so low its a little insulting and gets you literally nowhere except perhaps a reputation as low ballers – that wins you no friends in this business.

The idea that we could possibly be like Manure paying way over the odds is preposterous as we are not working in that financial environment – the difference in our case would be what couple of million? In our market and in our financial position it is small beer if it means getting the job done quickly and professionally, keeping the coaches and fans on side and generating some goodwill is it worth it? IMHO yes it is. If we do it right does that mean Liverpool get it wrong??

The one thing we demand of players is 100% effort and commitment. Work your arse off, leave everything on the pitch, give everything you’ve and we will forgive you a poor game or even a poor season. Does the same apply to keepers of the bank balance? Do they burst their hump and go the extra yard for the team and for the fans, do they give 100% and a little bit more?? I think we all know the answer to that.

Last point – there are some on here who seem to paint last season as some sort of failure. It seems like domestically we did not hammer our rivals enough and did not win by a significant enough margin despite spending some money (no nett spend mind) on new players. The dislike/loathing of the manager is laced through every comment so my question is this to however this may concern (you know who you are? Should we sack the manager for an inadequate performance? should we not spend to improve the team (not the squad)? should we not let the “current” manager spend to improve the team? should we not let a manager who has a year or less on a contract spend on the team? or should we get rid of a manager that has a year or less left on a contract if they don’t sign an extension? You don’t say any of these things but you infer it in every post – all the things that are wrong so whats the solution?

  8. Brendan Rodgers won’t get what he wants, so Brendan play the same game with this no ambition board, put your feelings known that this will be my last season coaching Celtic players, and if another club which I’m interested in then I’m for the off, personally I wouldn’t blame you,

like any listed company, their duty is to shareholders, which is why they are motivated by extracting as much profit from the brand as possible. However, they cannot openly admit this as it would be commercial suicide.
