Brendan Rodgers is a master of what to say and what not to say. Blame, well, “I can’t fault the players”. So not the players then. He adds, “However, if you want to progress, then, as I said, you need to bring in quality.” Is that pointing the finger of blame? There’s plausible deniability; I’m sure if asked directly, Brendan would wax lyrical about the support he received from Dermot and Michael, but plausible deniability does not cut through publicly in football. You, me and Brendan know that.
Martin O’Neill made it clear at an AGM 20-something years ago. With Dermot Desmond sitting a few seats along from him, he explained that it was not his job to worry about development, finances or sustainability. His job, as he saw it, was to campaign for better players. It was up to the board to hold their line and worry about what they needed to worry about. Martin was always charmingly frank.
The upshot for today is a degree of urgency which means the manager will inevitably get what he wants, just like last summer, when we spent £26m on Idah, Engels and Trusty. Celtic have the money to back Brendan like this again, I fully expect they will.

Hot Smoked,
In your opinion, what defines the best fans in the world?”
I don`t have an opinion on that. My post was a wee dig at the ridiculously OTT (IMO) criticism of our team because of a heavy defeat in a Friendly.
Engels in this pre season has yet to show a glimmer of improvement. An indicator that he has kicked on. He’s done nothing to impact moments in games defensively and offensively. Nygren on the other hand is looking a 30m player already.
I think Rodgers needs to be ruthless with the midfield. I’d consider Bernardo and Engels replacements. Apart from nygren – our midfielders are too similar – we need better !

BSR @ 5:21 pm,
Spot~on…
Brendan Rodgers said only this week the price of a player does not directly equate to his ability.
The attributes and qualities Celtic look for in a footballer is very well known…
The Blogger is even fed up hearing about it…*
Yes, Brendan Rodgers is a master at it…
So if we don’t spend any of our 100 mn + our football club makes on a few footballers and our results don’t improve, the supporters are going to end up “blaming” the Board.
I can see the scenario, what I’m struggling with is what Brendan Rodgers is a master of – I’m thinking Tai~chi ☯️
*The Blogger, a word of advice, take a leaf out of Mark Lawwell’s book and just ignore it.
Hail Hail

Everything is Brendan’s fault, that’s the default answer, and WTF has Brian Wilson ever done to earn his money?

Bob Kelly then Desmond White Stein picked the team.
*hmmm according to Hugh McIlvanney a close friend of the Big Mhan at the first Thursday night board meeting when Jock was asked about the team for Saturday his response was that due to a wee cold here and a wee knock there he didnae have one ready at the time to which Sir Bob seemingly commented “so you are telling us to mind our own business” to which the Big Mhan allegedly replied “aye that’s about the size of it” as he himself said you cannae say you have full control if you don’t”
dessybhoy- this Board has needed freshener up for a while, far too many comfortable there, and have too much power,it’s unhealthy, cue the Lawwell Roll of Honour….Dom McKay was too modern and forward thinking, a guy who transformed European Rugby, left for ‘personal reasons ‘ then reappears after a month into another top rugby job

100% agree with you , however people are appointed people rather than elected through merit, folk were going on about Sevco being a Private Limited Company and that transparency accountability would be an issue, is Celtic transparent what plans do this board have for the club what is their manifesto to improve the team and club? Accountability is a short Q and A session once a year at an AGM an ardous task no doubt and not a comfortable time for the board but in reality they’re bomb proof and know it ,the power lies with season ticket holders to buy or not.
Adam Montgomery on loan to Livi, Josh Clarke on loan to Thistle
Kwon signed by Nantes permanent deal, Montgomery 1 year loan to Livingston.

Good to see we continue to move non contributing players on. Still scope to trim more. We need some more quality players, the sooner the better.
We have now improved lennoxtown and barrowfield so surely the next area for significant upgrades is celtic park. We should be looking at improving the envios of the stadium i.e. patestrianized zone with monoblocking akin to the celtic way with fences and trees/ hedges making up a physical barrier from the car/ coach parking that is properly designed and tarmacked. Would lkke celtic styled benches/ seating areas on the padestrianized zone.
The celtic way should be lined with the whole lions team at one side and inividual greats at the other side. I would even be tempted to put an away pathway of the great players and clubs that have played at celtic park over the years.
Infustructure such as museum, bar, superstore, ticket office, fanzone etc should be high on the agenda for the club. If there is scope and possibility for a hotel crack on with that too.
Thats before we even get to the southstand which could do with an upgraded. Even if the club don’t think the capacity needs increased they must surely see that they could extend outwords towards the celtic way and increase the footprint.
Problem is whereever would they get the money to do that level/ type of work!!!!

is ekiteke the only palindrome youse no?
ekiteke? nawwww

Most players who would instantly walk into our 1st team and improve it will also be hoping or holding our for teams like Leeds, Brentford. Brighton etc so they can make £4m a year (x 4 years) instead of £2m a year with Celtic.
So you either land lucky or be really astute and switched on with your scouting with guys like Nygren or Alistair Johnston or we get guys like us and KT that will give up £10m in career earnings because he was born to play for Celtic.
So…by my reckoning that means we are either patient (or a wee bit lucky) with guys who are just a wee bit away from the EPL ( VVD, CCV, MOR) and we hope to develop them quickly into our best players who help us win things domestically and get some big wins in Europe.
The other option is to sign guys who are Celtic fans.
Now, we all know that their should be a mix.
So who would instantly become a starter in our team and would instantly improve us?
Craig Bellamy
Robbie Keane and
Roy Keane would all be ( not great examples but stay with me) players who would gladly earn less to play for Celtic.
So, who of that ilk could we sign to help out Cal KT, CCV etc whilst still having young projects coming through?
Andy Robertson
John McGinn
Lewis Ferguson
Moussa Dembele
Evan Ferguson
Aaron Hickey
Stadium of Light
Should be copying this if on a less grand scale.
Problem is whereever would they get the money to do that level/ type of work!!!!

On hand cash reserves
a debenuture scheme for future rights to seats – better structured than the david murray ibrox one
a new share issue, there must be thousands of fans who would like a sentiment of building part of the stadium, while owning a share cetificate – problem being it dilutes DD percentage, unless he matches what the fans can raise.
I feel there is multi millions of untapped investment out there worldwide.
lastly like Real, a 30 year mortgage.
Wow, some quality posts today.
Balancing the fact that our board have secured a top 10 place in financial stability among Europe’s elite clubs and optimising our potential by prudent investment is difficult equilibrium maintenance.
Most fans just want progress, entertainment. nice surroundings / facilities, quality players, trophies and European competitiveness.
Our custodians want this but have to ensure financial stability and mitigate potential consequences if things go pear shaped.
Our opinions are totally valid, but they don’t have consequences.

There’s talk of Man Utd asking their fans for a £4000 booking fee on top of their Season Ticket price.

Stephenbhoyboy on 25th July 2025 7:46 pm….
I don’t know why the board don’t want to enlarge the stadium. Laziness, I suppose. To all intents and purpose, most games are sold out. (Glasgow derbies, and European Games tend to have ZERO tickets available to non-season ticket holders).
Also, when ticket holders can’t attend, Celtic have declined to create a ticket ‘exchange’. They prefer to have these seats empty. This means that the only tickets available are in short supply, and are for games deemed to be ‘less attractive’ games.
So, no efforts are needed to fill the stadium. And no effort to attract the next generation of Celtic supporters.
I try to get over from Canada every year. I hate asking friends for tickets that their kids would use. So I don’t ask. The small number of available seats disappear quickly when they become available on the club’s website.
Another 10k seats would work. There would be a rush to buy them up, given how long many of us have been on the list. If there were too many available, then the club would have work to do to fill the stadium.
That’s how other businesses work….
Cheers,
Weeron.

Would not disagree, if the board had the same aspirations as supporters had we would be in a far better place. Not saying supporters would do a better job running the club without the skill of the board, simply that the board lack the motivation supporters show and place to much emphasis on very short term goals.
Truth is, so far this summer we have only lost one player who contributed a lot last season. however, the optics are not great because when you remove him from the squad and take out jota it is very obvious we lack depth and quality in the wide areas.
2 wingers needed, with forrest and yang as back up. That would free up meade to play up top where he is more effective. When jota returns he can gradually work up to full fitness with a view to forrest being phased out (last year of contract, 34 and now getting lots of injuries) by end of season.
We also need a good quality left centreback who can carry the ball to partner Ccv, with Murray, trusty and inimura challenging for place at the back.
I would lkke to see a younger leftback with scope to develop and improve but this is not essential.
We should try to move on Tilio, Welsh, Scales, kenny and summers this season
We should look to loan out Cody Donovan, Ben mcpherson, kyle ure, sean mcardle and osmand for their own development and our benefit
HH.
Thanks for the response, StephenBhoyBoy…..
