Why Brendan will get what he wants

468

Brendan Rodgers is a master of what to say and what not to say.  Blame, well, “I can’t fault the players”.  So not the players then.  He adds, “However, if you want to progress, then, as I said, you need to bring in quality.”  Is that pointing the finger of blame?  There’s plausible deniability; I’m sure if asked directly, Brendan would wax lyrical about the support he received from Dermot and Michael, but plausible deniability does not cut through publicly in football.  You, me and Brendan know that.

Martin O’Neill made it clear at an AGM 20-something years ago.  With Dermot Desmond sitting a few seats along from him, he explained that it was not his job to worry about development, finances or sustainability.  His job, as he saw it, was to campaign for better players.  It was up to the board to hold their line and worry about what they needed to worry about.  Martin was always charmingly frank.

The upshot for today is a degree of urgency which means the manager will inevitably get what he wants, just like last summer, when we spent £26m on Idah, Engels and Trusty.  Celtic have the money to back Brendan like this again, I fully expect they will.

I agree with your point on that insignificant little no mark Mitchell.

Honestly you have given him more oxygen than he even deserves.

He is a loser seeking relevance . End of.

  3. I really do hope everyone on here who is appalled by the treatment of people in Gaza have written to their MPs to ensure they support the 220 or so supporting Palestine. I notice most of the weak and gutless Scottish labour are not currently. Probably fearing retribution from their wannabe dictator leader.

Letting them know true support for Palestinians democratically is the only way. Other wise all they see is the Israeli influenced MSM.

Al-Ahli playing a curiously Scottish game. Hit the deck every time a Celtic player goes near them.

  7. Ref is a howler and giving us nothing. Celtic midfield can’t get a hold of the ball – slippy surface and poor control – Engels and Bernardo not showing midfield quality so far. Only imamura is fun to watch , I like his forward passes inside , very accurate and good eye

Inamura gives up the first engagement position (high and low / long or short passes) too easily.

Good touch and range of passing.

Lots to learn about assertive defending.

  11. Tilio not exactly grabbing his chance. I don’t know if he can defend but Inamura is very comfortable on the ball.

  12. Celtic are huffing and puffing. I wouldn’t blame Sinsalo for the goal, but would like to know who was supposed to pick up the Brazilian.

  13. up against a big strong athletic team that don’t mind giving it out , we are standing off this team allowing them to pick their passes , the pitch is terrible players slipping all over the place , don’t think we had had a shot at goal yet.

  15. It shows that Inamura has played a handful of games at full back but he’s settled very well and theres definitely a player in there

  16. Decent last twenty minutes from Celtic. A very good run out for the squad members

    The ref is a fanny

At times, a fanny can be a useful thing.

On that basis, please give the ref some credit

Nothing game. Good goal from them. Jamesy been good. Otherwise we look total dross in an attacking sense. Fair to say Tillio to Rapid makes sense.

Ad hominem attacks on other posters is Hunnish behaviour.

    Touché.

  21. both our centre backs let the goal scorer take the position at the back post to score , neither went with him to cover.

    So far, so meh.

Two day turnaround clearly driven team selection.

Get them to run around chasing and pressing second half, feeling the pain.

Good fuel for the real stuff.

Then get them up the road and rested.
