Brendan Rodgers is a master of what to say and what not to say. Blame, well, “I can’t fault the players”. So not the players then. He adds, “However, if you want to progress, then, as I said, you need to bring in quality.” Is that pointing the finger of blame? There’s plausible deniability; I’m sure if asked directly, Brendan would wax lyrical about the support he received from Dermot and Michael, but plausible deniability does not cut through publicly in football. You, me and Brendan know that.
Martin O’Neill made it clear at an AGM 20-something years ago. With Dermot Desmond sitting a few seats along from him, he explained that it was not his job to worry about development, finances or sustainability. His job, as he saw it, was to campaign for better players. It was up to the board to hold their line and worry about what they needed to worry about. Martin was always charmingly frank.
The upshot for today is a degree of urgency which means the manager will inevitably get what he wants, just like last summer, when we spent £26m on Idah, Engels and Trusty. Celtic have the money to back Brendan like this again, I fully expect they will.

They’re a dirty shower of bastards
Some right arseholes in this Saudi team
They’re a dirty shower of bastards.
Some good moments from Shin
I was correct the ref is a fanny
Lot of winners for Celtic from the CBS commentator.
For what is largely a squad team, we did ok.
Penalties now, FT 1-1.
James Forrest mom

I don’t give any money to the Huns that I am aware of. Curious thing to say. Apart from Celtic games and going for a laugh at them in the 80s when they were dross personally I never have.
Ignorance and arrogance ? Go reread your post and read my reply in paragraph above.
Re Brendan, I have stated often I really hope he succeeds. I don’t believe he will. I think he now realises how hard it is to attract a higher level of player to play here. He is not making it easy for himself IMO by not committing himself.
Anyway if it makes you feel a lot better name calling and making false assertions then enjoy your evening.
ref should have his baws booted for this…dirty barstewards
Shin, very sharp, pacey and strong, from the little I saw.
Oh no not penalties.
Let’s get off the pitch and home
They call him “2 save Sinisalo”..
They were better team in first half but we were better by far in the second. Unlucky not to win it
Good workout for pre-season. Decent but manageable level of opposition. A lot of big physical, units in their team.
Jamesy the best player on the park. Trusty, Inamura and McCowan all played well. Shin Fein looked promising when he came on as did Osmand.
Tillio was rotten. If we don’t have 20 better prospects in the academy sack big Mick and shut the whole operation down. An utterly pointless signing.

A wee conspiracy theory from you earlier re our manager.
I am sure there would be no value in that kind of behaviour.
Even I would not stoop to cause the manager of that.
Still if it makes you feel good.
He is in charge of recruitment and has brought a chap in to help him who he can work with. Sadly the chap may not have the experience needed.
Folk still on here saying the board is to blame. How is that for ignorance. Or maybe it is a metaphor for perceived authority figures folk want to shout at. Owners maybe I could accept but then Chairbhoy assures us BR has a hotline to DD.
5-4 on pens – Championees 😉🍀😀
Any Celtic win , makes my night.
Goodnight all
Brilliant!
don’t know what happened but only saw 5 pens and we won 3-2
Tough game. They were big, fast and strong.
I’m glad that the pre-season is over.
I thought the Forrest, McCowan and Trusty had very good games.
We need more from Engels and Barnardo.
I like the boy Donavon.
Onwards and Upwards….
Weeron
Log in again and again
Goodnight big Lefty🍀
The less said about the first half the better. Much much better after the break.
Saudi team left the foot in time after time , a cowardly way to get an opponent injured.
The referee made our lot look better than anybody, if thats Possible.
HH
somr moaned about the team selection – hatate and the cup final ? and from what i read here, the saudis were dirty so and sos.

Enjoyed that.Good game against good team.Jamesy 😍,followed by Luke,Trusty,Inamura, who gets better every game.Welsh did well.Donovan looks a good prospect.Get him loaned out for a season.
Burnley,we have identified players. We just dont want to pay the going rate. Not even near it.Balikwisha,Breume,Munteanu.
btw, not a big game, but taking pens and winning is all great for the psyche…..
was at the anti ukip demo today
bt some boro fans are w*nkers but we knew that
the ukip/huns/union bears were not allowed to march on their pre-determined route
they instead headed straight for the king billy statue
hotly pursued by the good guys
seen some a-hole polis draw his baton as they tried to prevent the anti-scum from heading up pat strathclyde uni –
anyhow, the wee union bears were forced down the road by an eclectic mix of young and old, straight and queer, a few dugs and even a wummin with a zimmer.
rule britannia my aunt fanny
CelticTV were suggesting both teams should agree to forego the penalty shootout, calling it a “pintless exercise”.
There was a higher prize money at stake for finishing 3rd.
Gk done ok, kohnstone done johnston things but wee bit behind in fitness. Ccv sas aolid enough and Trusty was again very good for the most part. Inamuri looks like a good player good blocks and good passing.. engels had his best preseasson game but Mccowan and bernardo gave the ball away to cheaply to often. Forrest is just a very experienced operator who understands the game. Tilio was sadly not up to much at all. Kenny and shin both done a lot of running.
Osmand done well when he came on as did Coby Donovan both should be sent out on loan at a decent levels to develop for a year. We need to decide if summers will cut it, if he need another loan or if we should perhaps sell. Hopefully the tilio transfer goes through and the interest in welsh from belgium resurfaces. If we bring in another forward kenny ahould really be allowed to move on if we beingnin another forward.
HH
Tonight tops off a pretty good preseason. Credit to whoever put the fixtures together, We got a got a good look at the new players against decent opposition, got some minutes into the legs of the squad.
Al Ahli would have been desperate to show up well in European competition, we had other needs but still competed. Perhaps the squad doesnt look quite as short of quality as we’d feared
One game, but it didn’t look like we missed out on much with Toney to me
The penthouse to the shithouse and somewhere in between in 3 games, like you’d expect at this stage

I’m generally always up for the first game of the season. First trip to the Drover to check out the new owner and back to Celtic Park. However if the result doesn’t go our way the atmosphere will be toxic
———
New owners but still only £4 a pint of the black stuff.
Now that enhances the match day experience.
PS : The new pitch level dugouts look smart, I’m glad I’m not sitting behind them though.
HH.
Watching the Man U v West Ham game at the Metlife stadium New Jersey.
Looks absolutely mobbed . It has >80,000 capacity.
Man U are still a massive draw.

Good Morning Celts…
Burnley78 @ 4:45 pm,
”Suddenly and as if by magic folk blaming the board because Brendan mentions ‘quality’. It’s like dear old pavlov dogs.
If anyone can explain to me what Brian Wilson or Tom Alison or any of the board, except perhaps Nicholson and the finance guy, have to do with signing players then I would love to hear it.
As Chairbhoy continually tells us Brendan and DD have a direct link and as we all know the recruitment expert (specialist knowledge of lower tier English leagues) is Brendan’s appointment.
Quite where the board, which so many seem to default to, fit in I dont know. I certainly do know that no one gets big fat bonuses for paying big tax bills due to having too much cash.
What Paul says will happen will happen. Whether we get value for our hefty spend will be a different question. Whether the manager stays around after we blow the money will also be another matter. For me if we miss CL I am sure there will be a stack of subtle ‘blame the board’ innuendo as he exits into the distance. Of course plenty will fall for it again. ‘Where is the money from gen dom’ will be the cry.
Burnley78 @ 9:08 am,
”I really hope I am wrong with my thoughts re Celtic. I don’t ever recall Ange whinging and playing games about what he had to work with and needing quality. He got on with it and turned the mess [made Peter and Neil] around. Our guy inherited a winning team with potential. All we have heard is need to improve. Ange wasn’t a game player he just did the improve thing.
I really really hope I am wrong re Celtic and we get back on track today and less whinging. We are in 2025 and not 2005 where Martin moaning about money was a thing. We have plenty money we just need a manager to use it well. I really hope he does.
Burnley78 @ 2:59 pm,
”Chairbhoy
I really hope you are right.
Burnley78 @ 9:36 pm,
”He [Brendan Rodgers] is in charge of recruitment and has brought a chap in to help him who he can work with.
Alllrighty Then…
Thanks for the name checks…
We know you’re a perception guy so we don’t expect you to be too heavy on the facts or direct quotes – just the innuendo.
So what are we to perceive this weekend!?
Brendan Rodgers is solely in charge of recruitment.
Brendan Rodgers is going to whinge about recruitment to deflect from his failure and blame the Celtic Board
The Celtic Board has nothing to do with Football recruitment
Brendan Rodgers has a direct line to DD because I say so
Brendan Rodgers brought in a guy as Head of Football Operations and he is out of his depth.
If we leave the Trusty, Idah, Engels mantra out of it for the moment, that’s about the size of it, yes?
Paul Tisdale was named Head of Football Operations in October 2024, in actuality, this is his first window, with tegard to signings.
This current window courtesy of BSR…
🍀 / 𝘾𝙚𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙁𝘾 – 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙚𝙧 𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙬 𝙎𝙤 𝙁𝙖𝙧…
First team players only – Spend
🏴 Doohan – Free
🏴 Tierney – Free
🏴 Osmand – Free
🇸🇪 Nygren – £2M
🇯🇵 Inamura – £250K
🇯🇵 Yamada – £1.5M
💷 Total – £3.5M approx
👋🏽 Income
🇩🇪 Kuhn – £17M
🇸🇪 Lagerbielke – £2.2M
🏴 Taylor – Free
🏴 Bain – Free
🇵🇱 Nawrocki – Loan
🇭🇳 Palma – Loan
🇦🇺 Tilio – Loan
🇳🇱 Frimpong – £5M (Sell on fee)
🇰🇷 Kwon – 250K
💷 Total – £25M approx
So, that’s what Paul Tisdale has done, he has spent 3.5 mn on signings and has done a heck of a lot of first team squad “housekeeping”.
Having now seen all of the players brought in, in action – I’m personally delighted by Paul Tisdale’s contribution.
Early days of course but we are seeing some real quality and real value in those signings.
So there is not one single indication to support your scurrilous suggestion he is not qualified for his role, and out of his depth, it just seems like bitterness.
Brendan has been very open and comprehensive about Celtic’s recruitment strategy, including the current approach and his responsibility – no sloping shoulders on BR.
As stated in a comment by me – Chairbhoy on 25th July @ 12:05 pm, what BR said was totally in line with the Club Chairman’s description of the strategy.
”Our successfully proven strategy has delivered stability and footballing success over many years and remains the same. We must balance the signing of players that can be developed and sold when conditions are optimal alongside the need to sign players who are able to make an immediate impact and deliver footballing success. The execution of this strategy is increasingly challenging owing to wage and transfer inflation, but this formula has underpinned both our footballing success and financial stability over a number of years now and it is vital that we adhere to it.”
Peter T Lawwell, Chairman – September 18, 2023
Now, since that statement was made the incumbents at Celtic Football Club have done a great job and complied with the Chairman’s stated model.
Here’s Examples…
Liam Scales was a fringe player that has developed into a key member of the first team group.
Matt O’Riley, who had done great since his signing in 2022, was developed onto another level and sold for a Club record fee.
Nic Kuhn was brought in, fitting the criteria for the Club’s development “sweet spot” and was developed into a UCL level performer who was sold for a five multiple profit.
The strategy is, as our Chairman has stated, a challenging one.
Many tier one Managers like Brendan Rodgers, would not have player development as a key component of their role.
Likewise, many tier one managers would not expect their High Value Players (HVPs) to be customarily sold.
Yet Brendan Rodgers has not only agreed to this, he and his staff have embraced it with formidable results.
The player development in the first team group over the last two years has been outstanding.
Celtic have over 100 mn in player sales since Ange Postecoglou left.
The team has lost many top performers like Matt, Kyogo, Kuhn etc…
Yet as the Chairman clearly states, the player development and optimal player sales must be aligned with ”the need to sign players who are able to make an immediate impact and deliver footballing success”
So when the Manager says those type of quality players will need to be signed, why is he putting undue pressure on the Board?
When he indicates these players are necessary for footballing success, and confers with Michael Nicholson and Dermot Desmond to facilitate the signing of these key players, people are suggesting…
Nrendan Rodgers is playing the blame game?
He is a Master of the dark arts?
Why?
Supporters get very suspicious when you and other placemen start talking like this Burnley78 and when Board associates go around undermining our manager.
They see BR&CO delivering on their parts of the deal, they see is goingbto the next level in Europe, dominating domestically, yet the team is severely weakened by players leaving and HVP sales.
This looks like the Board want to renege on their part of the recruitment strategy.
If &/or when the Board do deliver the quality players that we need signing, then you are trying to make out, it’s Brendan Rodgers blackmailing the poor “suits”.
The PLC Board having to spend a fraction of the Football Club and supporter’s money on quality players, is on a par with extortion.
That is complete nonsense, the Board need to pony up and support our manager, it’s literally the least they can do.
Celtic supporters aren’t fooled.
Hail Hail
kevJungle
bill gates etc dont own me/my mind or 99% of the folk on the anti-racist marches
and we’ll turn up to some regardless of the “sponsors”
i’d do the same if visiting ireland too – the absolute brass neck of any irishman going on about immigration
the PWP – is that just for “British” people ? a kind of national “workers” party ? a kind of national “socialist” party ?
we all know the establishment love the divide, the cheap labour etc etc but that wont stop us marching against the racists
the same folk who were on the march yesterday (some irish too) also campaign against imperialism, colonialism & capitalism
I’ve read some of the irish posts including those who claim that even James Connolly was on their side but I’d prefer to listen to the likes of the folk mentioned here
