Why Hearts should buy Ibrox

943

Vladimir Romanov has grown bored of his Hearts experiment as an investment of tens of millions of pounds failed to change the side from mid-table strugglers into a team capable of something Motherwell seem able to do on significantly less.

Romanov wanted to transform Hearts into the biggest club in Scotland but failed to address the structural limitations of the club.  While Hearts may be the biggest team in Edinburgh, Edinburgh is a net exporter of football fans, Tynecastle is squeezed into a cramped corner of the city and provides very little opportunity to harvest corporate income, and, in case you haven’t noticed, there were two well-established competitors in a larger, net-import city with ample corporate income opportunities.

Various Hearts boards have looked to relocate the club or extend facilities at Tynecastle without much headway being made.  A bid of £22m was received from a house builder for the stadium some years ago but without a viable alternative the deal stalled.

A viable alternative could come onto the market soon.

If Rangers go out of business Romanov is in a unique position to take advantage.  Craig Whyte holds a floating charge on Ibrox and Murray Park but any bid in excess of his liability, which would be considerably less than the value of the properties, which have a book value of £139m, would secure both pieces of real estate.

Hearts could sell Tynecastle and Hearts training ground, raising enough funds to considerably offset what they would need to pay to secure Ibrox, if not provide a surplus, and establish foothold in the Glasgow market to complement their historical Edinburgh fan base.  One club would have a pull on a huge proportion of Scotland’s two largest cities.

At a stroke Romanov would ensure his club were for all time, at the very least, the second largest team in Scotland, and, eventually, could push Celtic for top spot.

It would be a ballsy move, but if you want to create a super-club you need to think a little creatively.

That too is a ‘solution’ with unintended consequences. I know I’ll not be back to watch that and many others will follow. But, I don’t think it’s just our club; others would do that too. Result might be a ‘new’ football body emerging with the tainted excluded. If there was sufficient momentum then it would be credible.

  2. JF – I read last night’s post when the wee man woke me up at 5 this morning, I think you were spot on and disappointed you felt the need to pull it as many regulars would not have been on overnight on a Saturday. Long may your excellent posts continue. The eejit who thought you were inferring/referencing rape needs to go back to school

    An interesting concept.

I wonder if Celtic have thought about something like that?

On your original post I am with you I have no time for McMoist, I always knew he was a sneaky runt, I remember many years ago getting told at the end of an evening in a Masonic Lodge in my area, one of the patrons told me with great delight that a young McMoist gave the songs of hate big licks on the Pool table at their supporters night.

Also as Sally is the same age as me he used to drink in 1 of the pubs in the town I regularly drank, usually with Barry F.’s older brother and Mr Fleck and try as I may he never responded to any the provocation I directed at him, I used to pray for him to do one of his stupid sniggers in my opinion that would have been enough for me to have to give him the fright of his life or more if he was cheeky.

Sadly I think he guessed my intentions and never took me on, the nearest it got was when he had some sort of a minder with him growled at me now in those days I was training 4 nights a week at martial arts, his minder was left in no certain terms what I would do to him made some grunting noises and quickly got Sally out the establishment.

I often think of how many games we would’ve won if I had curtailed his playing career but he never took me up on my kind offers, as you know I am a much older and wiser and such a quiet person those thoughts from a different era are a thing of the past but sally still rips ma knitting and I want him to leave ipox a broken man with his former fans all turning on him that would give me a lot of satisfaction.

Sally the sneak will be hated by that mob.

8 to go, not 9 in a row?

High earners could remain on the basis they forego wages, that is, play for nothing. The high earners are in a position to afford this assuming they haven’t squandered there existing wealth down the bookies.

\If the rule are broken and a new Huns gets to play in the SPL, Celtic should hand in their resignation.

The SPL/SFA can’t be allowed to cheat again.

If we were to resign we could link up with Berwick and apply to the English FA in the hope they have a sense of justice.

One Huns club lost a manager today, maybe another one by Tuesday?

I think he will certainly leave them with a different view of him than the heroic one he presently seems to have in their hearts.

I always knew some of them were gullible – letting a man like Whyte take over their club was poetry precisely because their gullibility was what he counted on before he did – but the way they’ve deified McCoist in recent weeks for his “we don’t do walking away” is unbelievable.

Who knew it was that easy to make them forget cup defeats, throwing away a 15 point lead, European exits … if Paul LeGuen had been willing to wear a sash and mimic playing the flute he’d still be at Ibrox …

I read two arrested yesterday as well. I was looking for the zeros after the 2. full voice yesterday again and 2 arrests. Its funny how they spend there energy hating us instead of supporting their team.

This is something that doesn’t sit well with me, I have ranger supporting friends who are catholic and i often ask how can you stand there and listen to that bile and they just shrug. i could never stomach that. maybe that makes me a weaker man than them.

Crazy days. While many of us have patiently waited on the inevitable demise of Rangers, no one had the imagination to foresee how utterly destroyed they would be from within.

Hats off to Craig Whyte for an exceptional job in such a short period of time. His sleight of hand with the paperwork has ensured that there can be no clean or quick exit from the morass. Winding up HMRC while waiting for the outcome of the FTT was particularly cute, although not as effective as utterly confusing title and property to all of Rangers assets, current and future, such that the Lawyers will dine well for years to come.

However, the laurels must go to David Murray and his fellow Directors over the past 20 years for coming up with the ultimate in self destruction. Not content with burning shareholders funds in a relentless rush to financial oblivion, they set up a series of tax evasion schemes, one more complex than the last, that has left a £50M wrecking ball swinging at the club.

As if that wasn’t sufficient, in order to disguise the tax evasion, they failed to register many of their players validly, thus presenting the tangible prospect that as the Club is dissolved in corporate disgrace, its achievements in the game from the mid ’90s are likely to be forfeit.

Hundreds of players played in perhaps a thousand matches over some 20 years, each match now void because the players were ineligible to take part. That Directors of the Scottish FA and SPL were party to this fraud indicates that the game was demonstrably bent for two decades.

In striving to create a club to match the scale of his ego, David Murray has ultimately ensured that Rangers and its record during his tenure will be extinguished in a scandal unprecedented in the History of Sport.

Murray might very well get his wish to see Rangers recognised as the most famous football club in all the world. Unfortunately for him, their fame will be posthumous, and entirely attributed to them being recognised as the greatest cheats of all time.

Never before in the field of Sport, have so few cheated so many for so long.

James Forrest requested that his post be pulled from last night ,and he gave an explanation of why he asked for it to be pulled.

I did not like the tone of his original post either, but i feel that he has shown great humility and decency in asking for it to be withdrawn himself.

I scroll past a lot of his posts because they are too long winded for my level of reading patience.

However he is normally a marvellous contributor to CQN,and many quite rightly enjoy his contributions.

Give the man a wee bit of credit.
