Why Hearts should buy Ibrox

943

Vladimir Romanov has grown bored of his Hearts experiment as an investment of tens of millions of pounds failed to change the side from mid-table strugglers into a team capable of something Motherwell seem able to do on significantly less.

Romanov wanted to transform Hearts into the biggest club in Scotland but failed to address the structural limitations of the club.  While Hearts may be the biggest team in Edinburgh, Edinburgh is a net exporter of football fans, Tynecastle is squeezed into a cramped corner of the city and provides very little opportunity to harvest corporate income, and, in case you haven’t noticed, there were two well-established competitors in a larger, net-import city with ample corporate income opportunities.

Various Hearts boards have looked to relocate the club or extend facilities at Tynecastle without much headway being made.  A bid of £22m was received from a house builder for the stadium some years ago but without a viable alternative the deal stalled.

A viable alternative could come onto the market soon.

If Rangers go out of business Romanov is in a unique position to take advantage.  Craig Whyte holds a floating charge on Ibrox and Murray Park but any bid in excess of his liability, which would be considerably less than the value of the properties, which have a book value of £139m, would secure both pieces of real estate.

Hearts could sell Tynecastle and Hearts training ground, raising enough funds to considerably offset what they would need to pay to secure Ibrox, if not provide a surplus, and establish foothold in the Glasgow market to complement their historical Edinburgh fan base.  One club would have a pull on a huge proportion of Scotland’s two largest cities.

At a stroke Romanov would ensure his club were for all time, at the very least, the second largest team in Scotland, and, eventually, could push Celtic for top spot.

It would be a ballsy move, but if you want to create a super-club you need to think a little creatively.

like some of the ideas but 15 home games a season is to much of a hit in terms of income. Unless of course you had a separate league cup competition which offered a European place. I’d go for a south west/ north east league regional setup with a semi between the two top teams from each section and a finals.

I suspect that all the newspaper ‘talk’ and phone-in ‘chatter’ is all a load of baloney, and that as usual they are all behind the curve. They have just caught up and realised Dignity will be liquated but somehow they will be parachuted back into the SPL, with MBB, HMRC and Ticketus standing Idly by and watching either legal entitlements/ money fly south!

No way, the legal mess that will flow from this will ensure that Dignity’s resurrection may need to skip a season if they still want to play at Ipox……

On the CFC response / objectives, once the Board stop cracking open the champagne then the strategy should be fairly straightforward as follows:

    – No entry into SPL

    – Investigation (evidence under oath) back to when Minty took over , 1988

    – Removal of all titles and cups won by Dignity during that period , if dual contracts / ebt evidence presented to SFA pans out

    – All directors during the period from 1988 to date, barred from being:

football directors, sfa office holder, any involvement in football down to amateur level.

    – Any team wearing colours and badge resembling Dignity not to be considered for entry to the league

    – All sources of finance for all clubs to be traced back to their origins to avoid directors putting in frontmen

As for the next OF game, if they get shot of their ‘best’ players then true to their ‘sporting’ approach the administrators will be begged to liquidate before the 25th March.

If the game goes ahead the full metal jacket from our best 11, no mercy 9-0!

In no shape or form will the next old firm game go ahead and all you guy know it, the bother and the embarrassment alone. That’s why Celtic won’t pay up front because they known it will never happen. 40,000 against 3,000 cops will be messy. even if they had to win with 3 players. I feel the SFA will get the blame or police on safety grounds. there has been alot of bother outside and inside ibrox at the last few games and the police know it.

BRTH posted one of his magnificent pieces last night, on the people who brought down HBOS, and it’s pretty clear that their own role in this hasn’t been explored fully, or the implications behind it understood. This is a cluster-feck of massive proportions, and the bleeding of the tax payer is not simply limited to Rangers efforts to avoid paying what they owe … HBOS basically wrote them a blank cheque which the tax payer is now picking up in addition to that.

We haven’t seen even the start of this story yet … this will run for years, and spread out to become one of the biggest scandals in the history of this country.

Well said James Forrest, for this update. Your original post disturbed me when I read it this morning. The sentiment and tone did not represent what I believe the values of our club or indeed this site should be. I’ve been reading this site for a few years now and have a great deal of respect for what you say here, but as a relatively new poster, if I had posted that, it probably would have/should have been moderated out. Well done for saying what you said in your follow up this afternoon.

As we are approaching Rangers endgame, there are several issues that still need to come to a conclusion: The re-admittance of Newco, the two contracts; the alleged 3rd party contracts; the retrospective sanctions for financial doping if they lose the FTT; the role of the SFA and its office bearers, the role of the press etc. Their manager and their fans are largely irrelevant in these. There’s a lot of dirty laundry that still needs to be aired, facts laid out, awareness raised etc. Issues that have, or have had, a direct effect in the fortunes and standing of our own club. This is where the real arguments lie, not with the sideshows.

What I want to know is Sky’s thoughts and proposals on their contract should a newco emerge.

To my mind they have a duty to tell us how much they would offer in a new circumstance so that contingency plans can be drawn up by the spl members given said members are meeting tomorrow.

WHY HASN’T SKY SAID A NEW CONTRACT MUST BE MADE AND FOR HOW MUCH?

WHY AREN’T THE MSM CALLING OUT SKY ON THIS?

If Sky have the intention of offering less money the spl need to know so they can advertise the rights elsewhere.

I did last night read Murrays acolytes trying to keep the nation on the same page as them by concentrating on the UEFA license issue rather than the SPL license issue.

As there is an Emergency SPL summit meeting tomorrow to discuss finance. Has the question into who will actuallly be representing the huns at this meeting been answered ?

Can any kind Tim point me in the direction of the articles with regards to the Ticketus 24m sale being deposited in an MIH account and thats where the missing millions are ?

When a 4th year was pawned off did Ticketus also deposit this in an MIH account or a Craig Whyte account ?

Are Duff and Phelps protecting the Murray lie of a 1 pound sale to avoid VAT on that sale and who got the money ?

    Sounds like it to me.

Sounds like they would like to keep the hun topped up with the 1m a month tax interest charge until the result of the FTT.

Therefore it sounds like Duff and Phelps are doing Craig Whytes bidding by keeping the original Murray liquidation and phoenix plan on track.

Can the SPL stand up to the SFA ?

So bhoys and ghirls where is this all being

Aye Sessegnon was very silly, Tiote had a few nibbles at him but to react like that was crazy, if he had stayed on the pitch then a 2nd goal on the break was very likely especially of Campbell had came on.

McClean’s chance was tricky but he has been scoring a lot so I was expecting him to bury, Krul got back and made a good save though. I should be happy with a point but when you save a penalty and get into injury time and concede then you are gutted.

Agreed mate. The more you step back – and it pays to try, to look at it the way a neutral would, dispassionately – and examine, in detail, the full scale of this the more staggering it becomes. We are talking perhaps as much as £100 million being used to prop up a football club with a shameful record of embarrassing behaviour and sectarian practices and fans. We are talking about the reputation or our entire national game being subverted, forever, in a shameful cover-up of potentially illegal behaviour, hidden behind the need for a TV contract.

People outside Scotland, outside football, will be rightly appalled if this comes to pass, especially as the full details have yet to emerge.

Would be a shame to be home and no get to the game, at least I’ve got family to see and have a Glasgow accent (not lost even after 10 years in Dublin) but my mates even tho’ they lived in Glasgow when at Uni in the early 90’s when we had our very barren spell they will never have experienced the hate that will be boiling over in the city even if the game is pulled, I’ll have to get them practice their best renditions of “the big hoose must stay open , that’s the bottom line” just to keep them safe.

Because the new contract is a sham.

Both Sky and the SPL knew when they signed the contract that the huns were going out of business and the contract would be dead before it was born.

The purpose of the contract is to persuade people to allow a newco huns straight into the SPL.
