Why Hearts should buy Ibrox

943

Vladimir Romanov has grown bored of his Hearts experiment as an investment of tens of millions of pounds failed to change the side from mid-table strugglers into a team capable of something Motherwell seem able to do on significantly less.

Romanov wanted to transform Hearts into the biggest club in Scotland but failed to address the structural limitations of the club.  While Hearts may be the biggest team in Edinburgh, Edinburgh is a net exporter of football fans, Tynecastle is squeezed into a cramped corner of the city and provides very little opportunity to harvest corporate income, and, in case you haven’t noticed, there were two well-established competitors in a larger, net-import city with ample corporate income opportunities.

Various Hearts boards have looked to relocate the club or extend facilities at Tynecastle without much headway being made.  A bid of £22m was received from a house builder for the stadium some years ago but without a viable alternative the deal stalled.

A viable alternative could come onto the market soon.

If Rangers go out of business Romanov is in a unique position to take advantage.  Craig Whyte holds a floating charge on Ibrox and Murray Park but any bid in excess of his liability, which would be considerably less than the value of the properties, which have a book value of £139m, would secure both pieces of real estate.

Hearts could sell Tynecastle and Hearts training ground, raising enough funds to considerably offset what they would need to pay to secure Ibrox, if not provide a surplus, and establish foothold in the Glasgow market to complement their historical Edinburgh fan base.  One club would have a pull on a huge proportion of Scotland’s two largest cities.

At a stroke Romanov would ensure his club were for all time, at the very least, the second largest team in Scotland, and, eventually, could push Celtic for top spot.

It would be a ballsy move, but if you want to create a super-club you need to think a little creatively.

You are a naughty naughty bhoy for that lead article! That is mischief making in the extreme, next you will be suggesting that someone will have an eye to creating a super rugby club in Scotland with a stadium that can seat less than Murrayfield but more than Firhill and with a vision for competing at the highest level in the cross border leagues– but only if there was a suitablke stadium available of course but they are not ten a penny…..

  6. Interesting report on Al Jazeera concerning an Israeli team called Beitar Jerusalem. The similarities to TFOD are unbelievable.

They seem to have issues with any Arabs or Black people.

Although the Israeli authorities are doing something about the racist chanting other than just tut tutting at it…….

Toneloc, I hope i am right, its more than just football to them. They despise us and a broken tv made them riot imagine what they will do if we pump them as a going away present. Police wouldn’t be able to control it and msm would make out its because we’d celebrate too hard and it would be inflamitory by us to celebrate their death and for OUR own good pull the game. Money might talk though ie. the sky money and the game will go ahead regardless of the carnage after it.

    Rydoso,

A big problem with a reduction to 30 league games is the loss in revenue for clubs – don’t underestimate that as it almost equates to a 25% loss in the SPL.

I do wonder whether going back to the old league cup format of 4 or 5 maybe team sections with a Euro spot at stake might be the way to alleviate that particular pain?

The old league cup gave me one of my happiest memories – humping them at Ibrox 3 times in 4 weeks. I was just a lad but my big brother took me to two of those games.

    Happy days :)

I wish you all the best with your limo derby day…

    But I can’t shift this notion…

They lose players tomorrow. They limp along. Travelling inexorably towards the next derby with a weakened junior team…

There’s potential for a truly epic gubbing in there.

Could their fear of a new record defeat actually be the catalyst for liquidation?

As I say – I hope you get your limo day – but I wonder if they’ll still be here by that time?

Stevie Walford is part of his back room team and Robbo may well end up at SAFC as well but hasn’t so far as he is settled in the midlands but OFM hasn’t filled his position.

I went to primary school in Ryhope with the Club Doctor Glen Rae but he

He should have money to spend in the summer as Sunderland have a decent support and have the backing of Ellis Short a MBB (missouri born billionaire :-) ) and Steve Bruce certainly got enough cash to spend.

The skunks finances are really bad, it is actually a surprise to a lot of people that they have done so well this season but they do have some good players, It isalleged that both the mags and Boro are very worried about the outcome of the first tier tax tribunal.

MIH has at least £50M of Dignity debt sat in their accounts from the failed share issue, and wreckage of the banks relationship with SDM is I suspect appalling but will be covered up by the aforementioned banks to save their already tarnished reputations.

My take on it though is the banks can wait for now, there’s enough evidence for the SFA to go all the way back to 1988 and start investigating dodgy Dave and his fellow directors from that point. Striking off all their past Directors is the objective… As it cuts off many if not all of their prospective buyers for the Newco.

After all the SFA do not want to be faced with this challenge every 20 years!

    Then do the banks!
