‘WHY I SNUBBED ROBERTS,’ ENGLAND UNDER-21 BOSS

1

PADDY ROBERTS was snubbed by England Under-21 boss Aidy Boothroyd in favour of New York City starlet Jack Harrison.

The on-loan Manchester City winger helped Celtic to an outstanding 3-0 Champions League victory over Anderlecht in Brussels last week.

And the fans’ favourite was a consistent performer after the tun of the year as Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops completed a clean sweep of domestic silverware.

Roberts opted to miss a call-up for England for the Under-20s World Cup in South Korea in May in favour of playing against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup Final when there was a clash of dates.

The tricky touchline ace was a shock omission from his nation’s Under-21 squad, ahead of tonight’s Euro 2019 showdown with Scot Gemmill’s Scotland side in Middlesbrough.

And Boothroyd revealed he decided to choose virtually-unknown Harrison instead of Roberts.

He admitted: “Patrick Roberts is a very good player who has done well and impressed for Celtic in the Champions League last week.

“But I just looked at Pat and I looked at Jack and thought Jack had probably had a few more games than Patrick has had, who’s in a better place and he deserves a call-up.

“It will be good to have a look at him and he deserves to be picked.”
