‘WHY KT MUST BE SCOTS SKIPPER,’ CELTIC LEGEND

CELTIC great Davie Hay believes Kieran Tierney should be a certainty to become the new Scotland skipper.

Alex McLeish is on the look-out for a new captain following this week’s announcement from Scott Brown that he is stepping down from international football.

Hay insisted: “Kieran Tierney taking the Scotland captaincy from Scott Brown is shooty-in, in my opinion.

“He is the obvious candidate. At only 20, there may be some who ask whether or not he is ready for the role.

“But I think he has sufficient experience and ability to suggest that he is well positioned to take over from Brown.

“In many ways, you forget just how young Tierney is because of the maturity of his performances.

“I won’t be the only one who has seen that he has all the attributes of a top modern-day player.

“He has the athleticism, the strength, the ability, he can attack, he can defend, he can cross a ball, he can score.

“I think it would be a real statement from the SFA to decide that he was the player to lead the country for the new era.”
