Why Morgan was bought now instead of on a pre-contract

613

What’s the difference between Celtic signing Lewis Morgan now, then loaning him back to St Mirren, or simply signing him on a pre-contract agreement to join the club on 1 June? Primarily, it is about the player’s training regime.

Celtic are paying St Mirren for the privilege of telling them how Lewis should train, what dietary rules he should follow and what developmental objectives to prioritise. He will train, rest, eat and sleep according to guidelines Celtic set out.

The cumulative effect of sports science is difficult to quantify, but it forms the basis of much of what the technical staff do at Lennoxtown.

NEW! The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 29th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

Exactly my thoughts as I read a pile of sh##e in the Sunday Times about Murty “bringing clarity of purpose to the club’s January transfer dealings”. It mentions that the Murphy deal could now become a loan but gives no reason why.

The same article also states that, as well as Pena, Sevco will try and get rid of Alves, Cardoso, Herrera and Dalcio. Again no reason is given.

The clarity of purpose of transfers is best described as cheap and available.

    Yes -indeed!

Italian fitba fans don’t need convincing that it is often a corrupt / bent game -but – nobody has ever come up with a convincing explanation as to why Milan felt the need to try and influence the officials before a home game v a fairly ordinary Bulgarian team .Some pundits have suggested that some people were more interested in the scoreline than the result .

That is the latest survey, yes.

However all surveys have reflected that the established belief in religion is in serious decline. Indeed in my own faith, the statistics would be so much worse if it wasn’t for the influx of East European’s. ( Poland in particular)

I cannot account for the accuracy, but I have just read that 9 Western countries will be theoretically aethest in the medium termed future. Including, a very big surprise to me, the USA.

  8. you don’t need to be religious to be bigoted.

there are people in this country who hate all things celtic. who hate all things catholic. who hate all things irish and who hate the colour green.

  9. Those of you hoping for an outbreak of real journalism in Scotland…….why? What has changed. Scottish journalists are there only to push the propaganda from Ibrox and to maintain Protestant superiority.

Similarly chairman of Scottish football clubs should be outraged as yet again the Hun attempt to buy players when they have no money. But they (and I firmly include Celtic in this) meekly accept that’s just the way it is.

It’s never going to change. We had our chance but, alongside the sfa decided we didn’t want to rake over old coals.

  10. But it’s okay cos Pauls next article will be about how Celtic will be showing Morgan how to tie his laces.

  11. Neil Lennon will be the only guy who questions, how a team surviving month to month on loans, can bring new players in.

  12. The’70 final…

I came out of a shop and was opening my 10 Regal pack when my senses told me something was amis

Apparently a Tim had shared his can of beer with some Uglys on a stray hun bus passing by, through its window and the said buns, none to pleased as you can imagine, had piled off the coach to give it back I presume.

I looked to my right at the seething mob charging towards me behind a Union Jack bearing Neanderthal.

To my left was an army of green and White coming at a pace to welcome them.

In front was a busy traffic filled road so turning round I decided to re enter the shop but the shopkeeper has decided to close early and was locking the doors, barring my escape route.

A John Wayne type bar brawl on the pavement ensued with fists, feet, bottles and cans flying everywhere and me in the middle defending myself with my newly acquired flagpole to much applause from the green and white throng.

The Glasgow police were less impressed as after landing a few blows on me to get my attention, threw me in the back of a Popo Landrover.

    The only arrest.

They drove me around for an hour then with a parting slap, chucked me out, I was free.

I got into the game but missed the first 25 minutes.

Cigarettes it seems are indeed bad for your health but at the tender age of 15 I revelled in my new found infamy, telling the story to anyone who would listen. Missing out the abject fear and terror I felt while pleading for my freedom in the back of the Landrover.

My first Rangers game, if a partial one….

In a town with no chippie,in a location of your choice in West Central Scotland, two fellas come up with a bright idea. Individually and simultaneously.

They both plan the opening of their new chippies on the last Thursday of the month.

The Milan/JRP Gordon affair was an odd one- I recall one of the other officials who was banned- Rollo Kyle- stayed quite near us (and he knew my dad well enough to nod to him). Kyle had real problems after this affair and I believe died in the early 80s though my family had moved away from the ‘Briggs by then

  19. Hi Bhoys

Listen I know that we all pretty much feel the same way that we would prefer that the cheats were non existant. We are all impatient and it can’t come quick enough. The latest transfer fiasco shows how bad things are over there. It’s all being brought to a conclusion slowly but surely (I hope). They seem to escape the final coup de gras on a regular basis. I don’t think this will be directly administered to them directly by anyone but their low life fans.

Sure the wounding from court judgements and The Takeover Panel as well as the internet bampots have given us hope and indeed will greatly assist in their demise. But to finally kill them off their supporters will have to turn their backs on them.

So while the things mentioned above are helpful the best thing to do is for Celtic to keep winning the trophies at home (europe is optional). If we keep doing this their supporters will turn their backs on the team.

Celtic constantly winning and even if the huns can rise to second best this will eventually lead to them walking away.I believe then and only then will we all see our desired result with the final demise of that club.

So what I will say to you bhoys is just be patient and to our custodians keep running the club they way you are and they won’t ever catch us. But also show the fans by words and deeds that your desire is the same as theirs.

Jimmy not Paul, one of my all time favourite games . Willie Gibson repeated Harper’s feat from 2 years earlier , scoring a hat trick against us and still losing.

  32. Compare and contrast

From rangers.co.uk “JAMIE MURPHY has joined Rangers on loan until the end of the season when the move will become permanent with Rangers paying a guaranteed fixed fee. Rangers were willing to sign the former Motherwell player on a long-term deal during the January window but Brighton prefer to wait until the end of the season before making the switch permanent. However, only Rangers will have the option to sign Jamie at that time.

And from http://www.brightonandhovealbion.com “Jamie Murphy has left Brighton & Hove Albion to join Scottish Premiership side Glasgow Rangers – initially on loan until the end of the season, with the move expected to become permanent when the summer transfer window opens.”

So is it “the move will become permanent” or is it “with the move expected to become permanent”
