Why Morgan was bought now instead of on a pre-contract

613

What’s the difference between Celtic signing Lewis Morgan now, then loaning him back to St Mirren, or simply signing him on a pre-contract agreement to join the club on 1 June? Primarily, it is about the player’s training regime.

Celtic are paying St Mirren for the privilege of telling them how Lewis should train, what dietary rules he should follow and what developmental objectives to prioritise. He will train, rest, eat and sleep according to guidelines Celtic set out.

The cumulative effect of sports science is difficult to quantify, but it forms the basis of much of what the technical staff do at Lennoxtown.

NEW! The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 29th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

Beg to differ. Celtic the establishment club……

Do you seriously think that if we were in the state that they are in that we would be protected in th3 same way?

Would we still be playing out of Celtic Pk, signing players when we have no credit line from a bank, have people on the board who were part of the demise of the original club yet still deemed to be fit and proper. Been involved in industrial scale cheating with contracts hidden from the relevant authorities yet have an inquiry into those self same contracts with its terms of reference tailored to preclude them (the DOS options).????

I could go on but you get the gist.

In terms of referees Bobby Tait still does a stint at their bearmacht rallies. In what other country would you make a request to referree your favourite team in your final game and have it granted?

Delighted it worked out so well for him.

Fairhill bhoy, only saw your post in a wee look back this morning. Agree with you and the Dallas mean wholeheartedly. If you’re not prepared to get the boot into Celtic you have no chance of a gig in the SMSM. I travelled to the games on The Brighton Supporters bus sometimes picked up at The Albion Way and sometimes The Welcome Inn both gone now.

The Brighton was named after Brighton Street and my Uncle Tam Cleary R.I.P. helped run the bus.

The Albion Way stood derelict for years until it was bulldozed just last year (i think). I’m not sure how many buses leave Govan now as like most other areas the supporters bus is becoming a thing of the past.

There may be one leaves from The Old Govan Arms on Govan Road opposite the ship yard and one from The Tall Cranes at the bottom end of Craigton Road not sure though.

It is 1965-66.The Year I Got Celtic.

We have just won the Scottish Cup and signed Joe McBride-the best goalscorer I’ve ever seen in the Hoops.

Pre season was a trip to Roker Park and getting home in time for 9am Mass in St Collumbkille’s,Rutherglen. A midweek friendly to check out two Brazilians.

The League Cup section threw up trips to Motherwell and both Dundee clubs. We progress to the 1/4 Final v Raith Rovers and then Hibs at Ibrox. This match is the most tense, exciting and dramatic I’ve ever attended, only surpassed acouple of years later v Morton.Wee Bobby’s last minute equaliser set the scene for a comprehensive 4-0 victory in the replay. Two penalties by Big Yogi won the League Cup for the first time since 7-1.Oh!The Huns duly rioted which stopped the Lap of Honour.

In the race for the League the Glasgow giants were only seperated by goal average in Celtic’s favour heading into the New Year. To be con…. HH

Those of you hoping for an outbreak of real journalism in Scotland…….why? What has changed. Scottish journalists are there only to push the propaganda from Ibrox and to maintain Protestant superiority.

Similarly chairman of Scottish football clubs should be outraged as yet again the Hun attempt to buy players when they have no money. But they (and I firmly include Celtic in this) meekly accept that’s just the way it is.

It’s never going to change. We had our chance but, alongside the sfa decided we didn’t want to rake over old coals.

    =========================

On the smsm: Although club loyalty/bias/sectarianism will form part of what is being reported or not reported by journos or the organisations they work for, another strong motivation is to keep the media they work for in business by targeting an audience who only want to hear good news. They are hardly going to write themselves out of a job. Not that this excuses them but in their shoes who would do different? Another is fear of intimidation which has taken place and that is a national scandal .

On you other point about Celtic like SFA not wanting to rake over coals that did not tie in with my memory of events in September 2017 so I went digging.

It turns out that on 26 May 2012 Peter Lawwell wrote to the SFA

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/scotland/celtic-still-pressing-sfa-for-inquiry-8p25q8wbb

about Rangers use of EBTs and mis-registration. He like the rest of us at the time thought those players would be ineligible and the result voided. Was he aware then of the Bryson interpretation that a mis registration did not make a player ineligible? I doubt it and in any case he also asked

” It adds: “The interests of fairness and Scottish football now demand that the SFA act decisively. The initial inquiry should now be reconvened or a new independent panel led by a judge or senior lawyer should be formed to investigate and report upon the Rangers EBT issues and consider whether there has been any further breach of the Association’s rules, including those on disrepute.”

This is actually a key point because as has become clear Rangers under SDM were never charged by SFA of bringing the game into disrepute or dishonesty and under CW only of disrepute but no charges of t dishonesty on either under the then Article 5.1 of SFA articles.

This was in May 2012 before LNS was commissioned to look at and only look at misregistration of players. That did not stop LNS saying there was no question of dishonesty individual or corporate, something he was only able to state because evidence of it HMRC letters of 5 April 2005, 23 Feb 2011 and 20 May 2011 proving and stating otherwise were not provided with the De Boer side letter of 30 August 2000 which was outside the time frame LNS considered. The last thing the SFA (SPL?) wanted was RFC to be charged with being dishonest because the sanction for that would be similar to that for match fixing and make it impossible for them to be accepted in any football league if at all without the most draconian of sanctions.

The other surprising thing is that the letter of 26th May 2012 according to an article in The Sun

    https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/1529746/celtic-peter-lawwell-rangers-ebt-letter-sfa-stewart-regan-uefa-gianni-infantino/

was sent to UEFA. Personally I never saw that letter (being abroad) and I don’t know if any of the other requistioners did either when shown Celtic had written to the SFA in December 2011, which is a pity as it might have reduced suspicion amongst the less trusting of us that Celtic were not totally on board in the pursuit of justice.

Roll on to Sept 2017 and Celtic again raised the issue.

At this point I’ll post and continue separately as too may links put a post in moderation.

  9. Can’t say I agree with Greenpinata about the place of Celtic and/ or the support in “modern” Scotland. Why do the msm pander to the hordes? Why does the SFA not hold sevco to account? England (and much of Europe) may well have moved on. Not bonnie Scotland, imo.

I nearly put a ton on that horse (my “normal” bet stake is £2.60 on a 10p football Yankee) but came to my senses in time. Close call.

Regarding yer Flu, Lurgy. As you say, bevvy and antibiotics don’t mix. However it is a common misconception that they are not to be mixed as a result of getting too pish*d/stoned and having a “whitey”. No, this usually happens when you mix analgesic medicine with bevvy (can be good fun too).

The main reason is that alcohol stops many antibiotics from doing their job. They become ineffective when alcohol is in your system. Antibiotics also usually need to be taken as a course over five or more days (refer to your prescription advice) to work effectively. Taking them for a couple of days, then taking a few days off before resuming them, again lessens their effectiveness.

I suspect that if you keep taking the antibiotics for a few days after you feel better, and stay off the bevvy until the course of antibiotics is completed, then you will be able to finally nail yer lurgy…

… you want to be in good shape for the physio next week, right? Good luck.

  12. Auldheid

Although CW took RFC 1872 into admin and then liquidation as ordered by Lord Hodge, I find it incredible that the witholding of Income tax NIC at this time did not lead to any prosecution this stinks to the heavens, he was charged with something else on which he was found not guilty, the Garage owner recently convicted of Tax and NIC eveasion got 18months for this for the sum of 208k, under Whyte RFC owed millions, but was never charged or was anyone else who was responsible for this within RFC. Someone is looking the other way big time.

  13. Imatim wants justice and the titles to be stripped from the cheats on

Is there any truth that the Compliance Officer has submitted 2 reports to date in to the nefarious goings on of the Huns only to have them both knocked back by the SFA as being unacceptable?

  14. Govan, yes. My parents owned the Crescent Bar at Paisley Road Toll (which is nearly Govan). There was a regular Celtic bus. There were also regular bricks through the windows when the Celtic-Rangers results went the wrong way.

  15. Imatim wants justice and the titles to be stripped from the cheats on

The side letters alone condemn the Huns to being caught cheating and a 3 point reduction is the penalty that should have and should be retrospectively applied to every game applicable.

When are we going to demand justice?

Auldheid when are we going to get things started re crowd funding and initiating a judicial review?

  17. Neganon2 Continued

In September 2017 Celtic and the SPFL asked the SFA for a review

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41212327

which the SFA rejected. One of the reasons is significant. They said

” Upon considering the action taken in the past six years by all football bodies, and mindful of the ongoing nature of [the Compliance Officer looking at the granting of the Uefa licence in April 2011], the Board of the Scottish FA agreed at its meeting on 10 August 2017 that a further independent review will serve no meaningful purpose and, indeed, could negatively impact upon the ongoing investigations [by the Compliance Officer].”

The significance is that in exploring the back ground to the granting of the UEFA licence in 2011 the SFA should find ample evidence of dishonesty under SDM’s regime and if they look further into the monitoring dates of June and Sept 2011 (and this will be drawn to their attention and Celtic are aware of the full picture) they will find the same dishonest reasons that allowed the granting were used in the monitoring phase.

Indeed if the SFA were to look at the RFC licence submission for 2012, they will find that the picture being presented of a late appeal of the WTC liability was also dishonest, although that licence application fell because RFC under CW failed to produce audited accounts and by then the SFA wanted the kind of proof of appeal they had not sought in 2011.

So far from Celtic not wishing to rake over coals the SFA have been given the opportunity to clean up their act and actually do what Celtic first requested in May 2012.

The difference is that this time a narrative of dishonesty exists and can be supported by documents from 1999 through to 2017.

It is not surprising that the Comp Off investigation is taking so long. Indeed even external advice that all was properly done when granting the UEFA 2011 licence that the SFA sought in 2015/16 in response to information supplied in a Res12 lawyers letter, is proving to be questionable.

There is no reason you would know this of course and so it is only natural that you fill the vacuum with an opinion that reinforces your core belief, but we all do that, including myself, although I do try to establish as much as I can before expressing any opinion.

It goes all the way up into the justice system. Just don’t charge folk with the real crimes they are guilty of. Put lesser charges in place.

Even the Judicial Panel that charged CW of putting the game into disrepute cited non payment of PAYE/VAT as an instance but not the non payment of the wtc liability that he undertook to pay in his Takeover statement.

This was in April 2012 when LNS was being commissioned and where documents relating to the wtc demonstrating dishonesty should have bee supplied to the SFA under FFP monitoring rules.

The SFA seem unsure if they really were made available in 2011.

    Agreed.

IMO we have to stop pussy footing around.

The SFA will never do things in an open and honest fashion.

Anyone that thinks the compliance officer will be allowed to submit a report that is damaging to either the Huns or the SFA is delusional. I think most of us know this.

It’s time to mobilise the faithful and go after them.

It would be disrespectful and cowardly for us not to taking in to account everything we and those that went before us have had to endure at the hands of those who cheat and corrupt with impunity.

It’s a blog where debate and opinion are oxygen.

Historically and Collectively we have always championed the underdog and have been anti establishment.

But times have certainly changed . We may be the underdog in European terms but we are most definitely not the underdog in Scotland . Our 69 games unbeaten run will underpin that statement. We have finances and outward infrastructure that all other Scottish clubs can only dream about.

There is a new establishment in Scotland and many would say ( with justifiable reason ) that we are part of it , perhaps leading it.

PS : Auldheid, you know i have always admired the four of you in regards res 12. However, as time marches on, it all seems so complicated now. Maybe that’s just me, but my desire for justice is still as strong. I sincerely hope most fans feel the same. Do our custodians feel likewise I wonder ?
