Why Morgan was bought now instead of on a pre-contract

613

What’s the difference between Celtic signing Lewis Morgan now, then loaning him back to St Mirren, or simply signing him on a pre-contract agreement to join the club on 1 June? Primarily, it is about the player’s training regime.

Celtic are paying St Mirren for the privilege of telling them how Lewis should train, what dietary rules he should follow and what developmental objectives to prioritise. He will train, rest, eat and sleep according to guidelines Celtic set out.

The cumulative effect of sports science is difficult to quantify, but it forms the basis of much of what the technical staff do at Lennoxtown.

NEW! The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 29th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

Great score for Pollok today in the South Side derby, our mutual friend Tony will be in good spirits.

Very disappointing score for Cumbernauld, they lost 4.0 to Newtongrange in The Scottish replay.

Came here for the Pre season tournament in Hamilton 94

*I was at that tourney it was really really warm around 100 degrees the exact opposite of today, surprisingly tae some on here but our star man was IMHO Carl Muggleton who saved a couple of jambo penalties including one from our former youth coach Stevie Frail who replaced a durty wee midden in their side.

Jimmynotpaul, I hope your wife is ok after her return to work following her illness.

Sorry to hear about Paddy’s team losing. In a way it might be a blessing as with less games to play, he might have a better chance of getting to some of our matches.

Tony Mc will be delighted with today’s result for Pollok.

I was planning on going to the Pollok game today but I have been in my wife’s bad books since last night. I didn’t think it was a good idea for me to say I was going to a game today.

Pollok are playing the Bankies at Holm Park next week. My Bankies supporting pal has barred me from all Bankies home games as they never win when I go to Holm Park.

The Bankies lost 5 2 away to Cumnock today. Bankies had two sent off including their player manager plus Cumnock had one player red carded. Sounds like a traditional junior game.

  13. KEVJ-is you’re brother in law ped du ?i think I might know him,he was pally with my cousin Brian

If my memory serves, I think you are wrong on one point. When Jimmy was breaking through, Alex Scott was holding the Scotland number seven spot. In fact, even after Henderson was in the Huns’ first team and Scott in the Huns’ reserve team, Scott was still picked for Scotland!

*was going tae mention that, even though I was quite young at the time a lot of punters including bluenoses were stunned at this. The SFA even back then wurnae fit for pupose.

I’ve mentioned before about a WC playoff game both willie henderson and his now deputy alex scott called off through injury the next choice for right wing was Stevie Chalmers who was playing there for us, he had been listed as a reserve by the SFA. They however picked inside left ralph brand in this really important game against the team that would finish runners up tae Brazil in Chile.

Scotland lost 3-4 to England just before the WC at hunden. Big Jock was still in charge part time of the national side and picked big Tam, Jinky and Bobby Murdoch.

The Wee Mhan scored 2 goals and if my memory serves me well the only players to congratulate him were the 3 Celtic lhads, Billy Bremner and Denis Law.

  15. Dallas.

Yes, she coped well, thanks for enquiring.

Go incognito next week, get Tony to give you a Pollok jacket, say you’re the administrator or something, then give your Bankie pal a wave.

I havent heard from Neil Mc for a while: last time, he was saying his uncle (monsignor/Bishop) was seriously ill in Rome.

Clogher Celt I knew you would have more details on Kevin Barry, By all accounts he was a special young man with no fear of death this was related by Canon Waters who was there at his execution by commenting to Kevin’s mother that he was the bravest and best young man.

There is a plaque on the wall of the house, it is on the right as you turn into Fleet Street from West Moreland street across from supermarket ( where ESB offices were there before).

  19. TONYROME-hi mate,I’m getting as far as playing it in YouTube then the problems start:-)))

  20. Oh dear. Celtic making a big fuss over the Lewis Morgan signing. Paul having a “special” article about who will tell Lewis what to eat. Earth shattering stuff.

Or perhaps a sign as to quite how little incoming transfer activity there is going to be at Celtic. Once again a stunning lack of ambition appears to be on the horizon.

Meanwhile minor issues like Celtic letting the sfa continue on delaying res12 stuff and simply rolling over regarding the inquiry into cheating is rightly Paul left to one side.

Equally discussing the Celtic boards campaign to stop friends and relatives using someone’s season book at park head are rightly parked in favour of who will tell Lewis which fruit to eat every day.

And of course the media campaign to back the sfa in its move from hampden continues. A move which will help the Huns out with extra revenue. But that’s a minor point when we need to know who will ensure that Lewis has brown bread rather that white.

Fascinating stuff this nutritionist thing. Equally as fascinating as moneyball (remember when that tosh was Paul latest campaign for his chum Peter?).

Good to see CQN sticking to the important things and not being distracted.

Now I wonder who ensures that Lewis brushes his teeth?

Cmon Paul we need to know.

  21. NEGANON2-should you not wait till the window closes before you say that?On the rest your post can’t really disagree with any of it

  22. Fairhill bhoy we can live in the hope that Brendan can influence the board to change their normal stance. However lawwell and Desmond are still in charge and this sort of gushing none sense from Paul doesn’t augur well does it?

Celtic have probably rightly taken a bit of a punt on a potential talent and in doing so ensured that the gamble is a small one. There is nothing wrong with that but this sort of level 5 esque propaganda is just embarrassing. Mind when I used to get shouted at for daring to say you need to speculate to accumulate? Well that’s just what Celtic have done.

Paul is simply hypocritical but that’s just because the board are too.

This site really has plunged into being a rather pathetic propaganda tool.

    Sad really.

  23. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Jimmynotpaul, its good her return to work went well. She had been hit hard with pnuemonia.

Tony is not to chuffed when I tell him if Pollok play the Bankies, I always want a Bankies win. The Bankies are my Junior team and despite my long term friendship with Tony , that will never change.

I’m pleased we signed Lewis Morgan. My brother in law is a St Mirren season ticket holder . Lewis is the only St Mirren player over the last 25 years he has been enthusiastic about . He said we were thieving b’s getting him for , in his eyes , so little . He still was not having it that the fee may rise to about 500 grand with add ons plus any sell on fee. Any player who is comfortable using either foot is always welcome.

  24. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Geroid , I hope you are well.

I concur with your earlier posts about the Arsenal man. They are welcome to him.
