Why Morgan was bought now instead of on a pre-contract

613

What’s the difference between Celtic signing Lewis Morgan now, then loaning him back to St Mirren, or simply signing him on a pre-contract agreement to join the club on 1 June? Primarily, it is about the player’s training regime.

Celtic are paying St Mirren for the privilege of telling them how Lewis should train, what dietary rules he should follow and what developmental objectives to prioritise. He will train, rest, eat and sleep according to guidelines Celtic set out.

The cumulative effect of sports science is difficult to quantify, but it forms the basis of much of what the technical staff do at Lennoxtown.

NEW! The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 29th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

  1. Sftb Willie Ormond was an outstanding football man however sadly he had issues which influenced some of his decisions as Scotland manager. Hh

  2. Two CQN’rs are sitting on a park bench feeding pigeons and talking about football.

Tim asks Billy, “Do you think there’s football in Heaven?”

Billy thinks about it for a minute and replies, “I dunno.

But let’s make a deal — if I die first, I’ll come back and tell you if there’s football in Heaven, and if you die first, you do the same.”

They shake on it and sadly, a few months later, poor Billy passes on.

Soon afterward, Tim sits in the park feeding the pigeons by himself and hears a voice whisper, “Tim… Tim….”

Tim responds, “Billy! Is that you?”

“Yes it is, Tim,” whispers Billy’s ghost.

Tim, still amazed, asks, “So, is there football in Heaven?”

“Well,” says Billy , “I’ve got good news and bad news.”

“Gimme the good news first,” says Tim.

Billy says, “Well, there is football in Heaven.”

Tim says, “That’s great! What news could be bad enough to ruin that?”

Billy sighs and whispers, “You’re coming off the bench on Saturday.”

  3. Personally I think Paul67 is a The The fan.

Thats the mascot generation and diet mentioned in the same transfer window.

    Re Trump and free speech.

Apparently Bannon tried to educate Trump on the US constitutional amendments.

    All 27 of them.

The same kind of crash course given to Reagan and George W.

He got as far as #4 out of 27 before Donald’s eyes glazed over with boredom and called it quits.

Looks like he couldn’t even remember the first one.

  6. JIMMYNOTPAUL

I’m quite sure Paddy doesn’t let it bother him as a certain CQN’R says KEEP THE FAITH !!

“only my opinion sftb but i think it was, maybe wrong of course not unlike me to be wrong. hh.”

Was that in answer to the Jinky question, the Kenny Dalglish question or both?

You do realise that Jinky was not selected on more than one occasion because Big Jock said he had an injury- nothing to do with his religion- unless you think Jock did it because of his background.

  8. JIMMYNOTPAUL on 6TH JANUARY 2018 8:18 PM

    KEEP THE FAITH

  11. Celtarella as you know Bannon is a horrible specimen therefore it must be bad when he is saying that Trump is a moron. Hh

  12. Park Rd 67.

You are correct, I think he gets a buzz from it, he PI$$es himself laughing when he hears it.

    Hail Hail

  13. Celtarella/Mags

I am wondering when the penny will drop with our Trump supporters in the US that they backed an infiltrator into the Republican Party. Both Bannen and Trump were infiltrators. Bannen and his Breitbart nut faction were looking to become the Militant Tendency of the “GOP” and Trump, who would have been happy to run as a Democrat, was just looking to steal anything which was not nailed down.

I also wonder whether our Russia Today suporters are also hearing the penny drop that, in backing Putin TV, they are also backing Trump. It’s a kind of Hitler/Stalin Pact Lite. They are both scared of China- Orwell saw that coming.

  14. Tonyrome 8.23.

One of my favourites Bowie tunes thanks.

You probably know this but Tonyrome comes up as Ringtone in predictive text.

    Aid Dasler.

Yes, last time I was there, picture of Queen hung up too in social club.

I see The Candy,St Rochs beat Benburb today. Late winner 5.4 I think. They will have enjoyed that.

    Hail Hail

Anti-Catholic sentiment was strong in the old SFA. Anti-Celtic FC sentiment was even stronger and accounts for more of the evidence of SFA behaviour at that time. The liberalism of the 60s was beginning to break down those barriers at all levels but, sometimes, the masonic dinosaurs won.

  16. Phil One of Murphy’s relatives in the pub today trying to convince himself as much as anybody who would care to listen that the Sevco deal is going ahead. I can tell you there was much tittering. Hh

  17. GORDON64

    KEEP THE FAITH

  22. Paddy Gallagher on

So as I sat down tonight in the local looking at my Guinness I had one of those dreaded moments of heightened fear. Just into a January and yet we ‘according to the press’ are selling everyone for millions. We are lending out our future protogies to various teams in various leagues. So these millions will be in the bank, our purchases will join all the other projects and all that will be left will be the dross we can’t move on. In a moment of defined clarity I thought to myself that’s a shite pint. Go and pour me a new one please, life is too short to not recognise your victories. Brendan my son your critics are not aware of the facts. Who applies themselves at training, who works hard looking for and deserves the breaks, but you are. Dismantle and rebuild my team at will. You have my trust and you are the most important component of the Celtic family. I think that what I am trying to say is ‘ Thank You’.

  23. Sftb Scottish football cannot move forward and will forever remain in this timeless ‘old firm’ limbo until someone with a pair of cojones comes along and shakes it up. I suggest Leeann Dempster fits the bill for the job, minus the cojones of course. Hh

  24. Tonyrome.

Yes, hopefully I will make a hoot and hear the story, BMCUW,always going on at me. :-) I’m more likely to attend if it’s in a Coffee shop though. :-)

Yes Govan bhoy born in Water Row.

    Hail Hail

  25. And I don’t care!

    I’m mellowing with old age!

    C’mon the Celts!

In spite of all the criticism you get on here, Brendan, I not only believe you are the MHAN for the job,

but you will deliver 10 in a row PLUS!!!!!!!

More power to your elbow my son!

And to all doubters/huns who have the cheek to continue to post on here –

    GIRFUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So very, very, glad to be a Tim.

Thank you Dad, thank you Ghod.

    C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Sipsini

Sorry for the delay in responding – nodded off watching the FA Cup :-)

No travels lately mate but I could do with being somewhere warm right now – freezin’ here mate. Hope you and your gang had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a great new year. I’ll be in touch when I’m back in Glasgow. We’ll have that beer. Hi to Myfanwy :-)

    Tontine Tim

funny enough, I knew a couple of Jimmys from Greenock at the TTC – May have been one of them

That tournament in Hamilton was almost surreal – It was odd watching Big Roy playing for Aberdeen and Judas lining up for the Hearts – I even had a pint with Bill McMurdo before wee Macari showed up at my hotel room to rescue a couple of first team players from a Guinness and Wolfetones party :-) Great times.

    Stay warm my friend.

    HH
