Why Newco want a Hail Mary manager

423

While Celtic are busy preparing their players and supporters for the derby game at the weekend, Newco look to be storing up their major news story for after the game, perhaps anticipating a pick-me-up will be needed.

I’ve heard a bit of ‘Why this guy?’ chat about, Pedro Caixinha, one of our self-declared “Celtic brothers”. Why not Derek McInnes or Tommy Wright instead of a man who sends video messages across the globe to congratulate Celtic?

McInnes, and Wright are both better than any previous Newco manager, and would use the Murray Park budget to out-perform Aberdeen and St Johnstone respectively, but ask yourself, what percentage chance would Newco have of catching Celtic with either as manager?

2%? Maybe more, but it’s certainly not as high as 5%. Newco would probably finish second, but by this time next year the reality that they were miles behind Celtic would have dawned on everyone.

What chance would Brother Caixinha give them of catching Celtic? While there is a high chance he would be less successful in the Scottish Premiership than McInnes, the certainty of success or failure cannot be predicted as accurately, as with a manager we are more familiar with.  You could be around 80% certain that with Newco’s budget and resources, McInnes would finish second in the Premiership, but 98% certain he would fail to top the table.

If you are left to choose between a manager you are 98% sure will fail, and a manager who you just don’t have enough information to estimate his chances of success or failure, why would you appoint the former?  Newco are as well taking the Hail Mary manager than investing in a strategy they are sure will fail.

Brother Caixinha is being offered the job because there are no good choices, only bad ones, and worse still.  And that’s the pick-me-up some will read about on Monday morning: ‘Brother Caixinha will give us a Hail Mary shot at winning the league, but might finish below St Johnstone.’  Although maybe they’ll phrase it differently.

I loved Ally McCoist’s assertion on Sky TV that it was rubbish to suggest Newco needed a director of football and that all they needed was to spend ever-more money.  After all they have been through, their influential figures are actively briefing against adding technical resources, instead asking for a club already running at a loss to gamble more.  I hope Ally knows the Hail Mary!

Here’s an idea, live within your means and get better at everything you do.  Do this and you’ll survive.

Thanks for the info, mate. And to everyone else who replied.

Defo a scam,then-but not a very good one if even I can spot it!

I’ve been checking my accounts online since, nothing untoward taking place.

    Yet!

I’ll do so for a wee while yet,I reckon.

  3. Hi Paul67,

Interesting piece. It was a rather confusing choice of Manager Candidate to my way of thinking.

You may well have put your finger on the “logic”.

Of Course All this talk about the Megabucks Qatari deal PC was willing to not only walk away from but forgo $300,000 into the “Bargain” seemed unreal…

The Official Al-Gharafa FC Statement Shines a Light:

“Al-Gharafa reach an agreement with Rangers FC for the transfer of Head Coach Pedro Caixinha,…

…Approval was in the interests of the club financially, especially when the coach’s contract expires in 45 days. The coach’s desire to exploit the opportunity to move to Rangers was stronger than our desire to continue.”

It sounds like the Qatari’s are quite happy to save the Monies (300,000) that they would be forking out if PC had fulfilled his Contract.

I’m assuming, as a Qatari Sheikh is normally willing to put success before cash considerations, that PC was not Fulfilling his potential.

It seemed to be a similar story for him with Santos Laguna in Mexico.

Maybe Newco think if it clicks for PC in Scotland they could surprise a few in the aul Scottish Cup tie. Maybe secure a European Berth.

One thing though, I’m sure this “strategy” is not long term planning.

NewCo need serious Financial Engineering if they are to carry on Fielding a Team.

My guess would be PC is on a Jam tomorrow deal that reflects the precarious nature of this appointment and status of the Club.

    Hail Hail

    On the new Sev manager……

Could this not be level 5 (unpaid work) a green herring…. We were going to give you a manager who has good words to say about “them” but now here’s not the 2 jimmys, the 2 Alex’s EBT MacLeish & Rae……. You could have had some unknown who likes “them” but here are two real sevconians the proof is in their non paying of tax ……..

Or is that too far fetched

I know he would have preferred to be in attendance tomorrow, but just too early for him to be there in time. Having said that,he would prefer neither as a choice…

Celtic Dawn. There’s a Bar/Bookies above The Hard Rock Cafe on the main drag in Corralejo that shows football and racing on a number of Big screen TV’s.

There is also a British bar further up the same street that shows matches. I saw Celtic V Aberdeen in there a few years ago and there were a good few Tims in that day. Next to an Indian restaurant if I remember correctly.

My da hated the press and papers. Morning Star, the paper Celtic View and Daily Record when Celtic won the day before were the only reading of the papers I had in my house. My gran loved the Herald and I read them all after. Wouldnae read any of them now. All propaganda tomes.

Things all good but incredibly busy. I hope you are well.

  24. It will be interesting to see what kind of tactical approach the Huns take on Sunday. The smart money would be on a 4-5-1 with a deep lying defence, plenty of cover for the full backs, full backs playing as full backs and not auxiliary wingers, clearing their lines when in possession at the back, getting men behind the ball and staying in a solid shape. The trouble with doing that is we will box them into their own half much like PSG last night, press them to death and they wont get out. When they do get the ball they will be so far from goal they wont be able to do anything. It would require a lone striker to hold the ball up and bring others into the game, something they don’t appear to have. If Lord Cardigan is advising Murty expect to see this approach. O’Halloran and McKay could be deployed to provide a counter attacking threat with the former used to restrict Tierney. I don’t expect to see Waghorn until the second half, i suspect he is unable and unwilling to spend the afternoon chasing Tierney. Then again they might go 4-3-3 and meet fire with fire. That would be plain crazy.
