Why SFA will reject Rangers appeal

279

The reason a transfer ban was imposed on Rangers is straightforward enough, they bought players and cannot pay for them. Clubs from Vienna to Edinburgh are owed money and have little prospect of being paid ahead of the coming transfer window, a fact which will have an enormous impact on their own competitive challenge next season.

The SFA cannot allow member clubs to continue to splash cash on players while clubs from other associations go without payment. It has a duty to inhibit clubs in violation of the rules from further strengthening while others have been weakened as a consequence.

This notion is tolerated in Scotland (only by those with a vested interest in Rangers flourishing) but is simply untenable. The appeal will be rejected.

It beggars belief that Duff and Phelps complain that Rangers competitive challenge will be inhibited as a result of not being able to sign yet more players, the administrators are the architects of the situation the club finds itself in.

Duff and Phelps devised a plan which would see Rangers retain their squad, or at the very least, be in a position to trade players in the summer. The plan was sold as a great victory, a panacea which would ensure the club would continue to field a competitive team throughout the administration process, something unheard of at other clubs in the same situation.

At significant cost to creditors, they kept players on full pay for several weeks before agreeing to retain the entire squad on reduced salaries. Throughout this period they played teams they owe money to, including Hearts, who they defeated last week while using a player bought from Hearts with an outstanding £800k bill.

For signing players and gaining a competitive advantage, without paying for them, inhibiting competitors’ teambuilding efforts, the only appropriate punishment is a transfer ban.

No disrespect to junior, amateur and lower league teams, but…

One team in Glasgow,
There’s only one team in Glasgow.
One team in Glasgow,
There’s only one team in Glasgow…

  1. Celtic FC should ask Dufff & Phellps for a returnable deposit for the damage these clowns will do to Paradise on Sunday, it’s in their make up. They will wreck the place.

Meant to say, I saw a remark last week from someone, can’t remember who exactly but they suggested that in the event of hun going to Div 3 we should put a team in there as well to prevent them being promoted, brilliant idea so let’s do it.

I am not one for getting carried away about matches against Der Hun as traditionally the form book means nothing. If I do offer a forecast it is generally a fairly conservative 1-0 or 2-1 victory to us. However, for some reason I cannot explain, I just feel we are going to see a comfortable win over the Orcs this weekend, and I am talking at least a 3-goal margin in our favour.

  3. If ratners fc want to resign from the SPL and apply to join the SFL in Div 3, they have to give 2 years notice if I am not mistaken.

Therefore moisty, jardiny, watty, fatty, chicky, trainy, jacksony, etc-y, cannot get their wish to add next season’s div 3 title to their list of achievements. Shame . . . . .

Yeah, he said it twice last night, will find it if you like. I have no problem with anyone objecting to the strip on the basis that they don’t like the design but the arrogance of that comment that was made last night(twice), and the clear assertion from the poster that he/she would look with disdain on those who did decide to buy one, was not an attidude you would encounter from Celtic fans you meet week in, week out at matches.

Of course the strip is apparently a hoax anyway but its funny how a couple of our so called supporters got so up in arms about the possibility.

An away strip which incorporates the colours of the Irish flag? Hold the front page.

The only people I would have expected it to rile would be the bigots on the other side, but their prejudice is their problem.

Agreed, if the truth, the whole truth, as to what went on at Ibrox, under the guise of business, is ever fully explained to the public… I don’t think people will be able to absorb it for what it was because it is that huge.

Five years for those scumbags. They’ll be getting out just as newhuns get promoted to Division One.

  23. Ticketus need to get their money back somehow – or at least some of it.

This could be a ploy. Put pressure on the appeal – see what would happen.

But if Ticketus really are pulling out then they will be taking Craig Whyte to court, not RFC PLC (ia). Remember that Whyte gave “personal and corporate” guarantees against the cash they advanced.

There was talk that Ticketus would take the shares instead of cash – but what would they do with 85% of Rangers? Sell it? Run the club themselves?

  26. Completely agree with Traditionalist ’88 on the subject of the ‘Tricolour Strip’…

For pure footballing reasons….to afford enhanced visibility of team-mates… the away strip should always be variations of the strip worn in Mon’s second season…Gold/Yellow Top,Green(or Yellow V. Hibs) shorts.
