Why we can attract top French youth talent

962

Olivier Ntcham stole the show with a stunning free-kick goal for France under-21s against Bulgaria last night. Celtic’s midfielder came on as a 75th minute substitute, not long after teammate Moussa Dembele was subbed off.

Olivier has been capped by France at every age group since under-16. It is a mark of the expectations we have for him, and Moussa, that they are exposed to the demands of the Allianz Arena, despite Olivier having less than 50 senior games under his belt, and Moussa having less than 100.

At similar stages of their development, expectations of Kenny Dalglish and Henrik Larsson were considerably less, while contemporaries, Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic took years to reach peak form.

What we have seen from Olivier, and to a lesser extent Moussa, is a glimpse of their potential. Playing for Celtic, with its unique mix of expectations to win every domestic game, indifferent domestic opponents, and regular Champions League football, provides a great opportunity to polish potential into the finished article.

Young players will get first team opportunities in less demanding games, while 18-year-olds like Anthony Ralston will be asked to get stuck in against PSG. I doubt any other club can offer a better environment to develop talent, which explains why we can attract Moussa, Olivier and Odsonne Edouard.

Listened to Professor Phil Scraton on Desert Island Discs today. An incredible person with an amazing story. The Hillsborough stuff was very moving. His song choice was also fantastic. If you don’t do anything else this weekend catch it on BBC i player. Hh

Delaney’s , everything went well today thanks.

Father Barneth , the new parish priest at Corpus Christi was great. He only moved to Corpus Christi 5 weeks ago from St Joseph’s in Faifley.

Thankfully , the requiem mass was better attended than we expected and it was nice to see some of my cousins and family friends from Drumchapel , I had not seen for years.

My daughter wrote a beautiful poem in memory of her papa . She was very brave reading it out to the congregation.

We had put somethings dear to my dad in his coffin, picture of his and mum’s wedding day, a picture of his oldest brother, his St Mungo’s school scarf , pictures of our family dog (his best friend ) and an autographed Celtic top my neice got him along with some other things close to his heart.

Many heartfelt thanks to those who have posted their condolences to my family over the past few days.

Phillbhoy, I hope your daughter has not been too traumatised by her visit to Auchwitz . The evil and horrors perpetrated by the ‘master race ‘ and their ilk should never be repeated.

As a student, the drunk girls were always friendlier. 11% must make girls mega friendly ;)

  8. Dundee beers – there’s a wee village called Kellas just outside Dundee, with a microbrewery called Mor Beers. Real nice guys. If Guinness is your thing, Mor do a beer called Mor Ticia – well worth seeking out. And a Christmas session ale, still settling, called Mor The Merrier. Genuinely worth a go.

I’ve been to far too many funerals recently, and most often it’s the tributes from grandchildren which are the most difficult.

I’m glad your Dad got the send-off he deserved. And proud of your daughter’s courage.

Best wishes to you all in difficult times.

I have and will continue to remember you in my prayers.

When I got my wee girl home she sobbed like I’ve never seen before.

    It’s been a tough day.

    Bobby , thanks

Today was the fourth and most difficult funeral I have been to in the last 5 weeks .

A girl from work passed away in early October , 2 days after returning from her hen weekend leaving her fiance and her 10 year old son. It was heartbreaking .

A girl in my daughter’s year was knocked down and killed 4 weeks ago. . My daughter was very upset with the funeral being very thought provoking experience . The girl had beat Leukaemia 5 years previously.

During my wife’s last two pregnancies, we became really friendly with this fantastic midwife who was so friendly and upbeat . Two of her brothers in law are guys I know . She died aged 53 with her burial on Tuesday being in the cemetry my dad was laid to rest in.

I can’t make it along tomorrow unfortunately but I’ll be with you all in spirit.

  17. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

    Delaney’s , thank you.

It was the first time I had been in Corpus Christi in about 26 years. The inside of the church looked smaller . I’m certain there used to be seats behind the altar.

    How is your mum?

  18. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    DALLASDALLAS

Bloody hell! There are some real tragedies there, mate.

I wish everyone involved the strength to cope, those are very distressing events.

  19. Dallas

Behind the altar seats were taken out of Corpus Christi and that area is now the Church hall for coffee and tea after mass and used by the community for AA meetings, Youth club and OAP clubs. Never knew Father Conroy had left Corpus Christi. My father’s requiem mass was in Corpus Christ 4 years ago. My mum is good but still misses her Robert. She went downhill when we lost my dad.

  20. There is something rather sinister about BBC Scotland just now.

    Just saw news. Lead story.

Child abuse by Marist Brothers…St Mary’s mentioned.

I think we are witnessing an co-ordinated attack on all things Irish/Catholic by our resident broadcaster.

    Child abuse is abhorrent.

It is widespread and needs tackled.

I refuse to believe that it is only carried out by priests or monks as represented by BBC Scotland.

These bastards at this corporation need challenged.

    On another note.

Dallas, was thinking about you all day. Hope you are ok and some fine stories are now being told.

  21. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Delaney’s, I’m sorry to hear that about your mum. Losing a partner for life is a huge blow. I hope your mum’s fighting spirit stays strong.

That’s good to hear the Corpus Christi hall is being used for the community’s benefit , which to me, is of great value to the parish.

i remember Father Conroy filling in at Corpus Christi around 1989, around the time some guy who used to play for us sold his soul for Murray’s borrowed millions. His sermon the Sunday after the above transfer, was about communication. In part of the sermon , he said about how big an impact the press had in communication. He said you would get a headline in a Sunday tabloid from Maurice Johnstone ‘s chiropodist saying Maurice Johnstone kicks with both feet.

    The congregation were in hysterics.

  22. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Art of War, that is very much appreciated.

I hope your dad has settled back home after his lengthy hospital stay.

The Kincora childrens home scandal is never mentioned in the meda.

  23. Dallas

Father Conroy like recently retired Father Joe Mills from Saint Mary’s Duntocher were good Celtic men. Father Joe met me outside Celtic Park in May 2003. I had just collected my ticket for Seville. He said he could not find a ticket. He told me that if I gifted my ticket to his parish priest at Corpus Christi, he would have a word with Saint Peter for me. :)) Chancer but great PP.

  24. DALLAS DALLAS WHERE THE HECK IS DALLAS

I believe that you just delivered what real ‘dignity’ is.
