Why we might need a pool of 7 wingers

News from Korea today suggests we have agreed the transfer of Yang Hyun-jun from Gangwon.  The player turned 21 two days before our last league game of the season against Aberdeen.  Gangwon have won only two of their 22 league games and sit well adrift of safety in the relegation zone.

He is young and playing for a side who are surely the polar opposite of Celtic – always defending instead of always attacking.  The journey to Europe, to Celtic Park, potentially Champions League nights and the ever-present need to win, need to always be productive, will take a while to adjust to.

A fee of around £2.5m is a huge amount for a Gangwon, so we can assume this lad has metrics which place him in the upper echelon of potential superstars.  Whether that potential is realised will depend on how well Brendan Rodgers and his coaches develop him.  We should expect little in his first season.

Yet another winger!  He joins Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada, Marco Tilio, Sead Haksabanovic and James Forrest, while Mikey Johnston’s injury almost certainly precludes him from leaving on loan this summer.  That makes seven fighting for two starting places.

That sounds a lot, but as my brother pointed out to me this morning, since the five subs rule came in, we change at least one winger and often both in each game, so any four have a realistic chance of gametime each matchday.

With two injured (as there are at the moment), that’s four from five, so maybe we are not overloaded on the wings (pardon the pun) afer all.

    We play against the same team as we played on Wednesday…. Behind closed doors and 11 a.m. kick off. Think they finished about 8th in the league last year, so no mugs.

    TB. Surely no as bad as REV IAJ . I my friend are a panicker, like you I eat sleep and breath our club , I am not going to revert to the other mobs signings .Brendan gave me a bit of optimism when he said we were going to get bigger and get more strength and physicality Into the team . I see more wee fellas signed while that mob have tooled up with bruisers .I never come on here for any ire I want us to be able to compete when the strong arm stuff comes from teams ,I have plenty faith in Brendan , I only wish he would hurry up pal HH

    Brilliant Post, I absolutely loved it.

     

    Like all fans I’m impatient waiting for us to splash the cash but Brendan is no fool, he simply has to win next year’s League for his reputation & future career.

     

     

    Last couple of years with Ange and the Japanese connections, new signings were brought in very early and maybe we are a little spoiled by that approach and are expecting that as the new norm.

     

     

    I am absolutely convinced that we will bring in quality players and that we will win the League again next year. I am more hopeful than confident about progress in Europe but for the moment we need to stay calm.

    It’s 245 miles to Dublin from Parkhead. If we bought a big new shiny electric bus we would need to leave about 3 days beforehand.

     

    God forbid we actually used the Air conditioning. I can easily imagine the players re- volting.

     

     

    Still the conductor would have a job for life.

     

    Nope, it makes sense to leave Parks in charge. On this occasion the current set up is best.

    I was quite calm regarding signings…now just a wee bit nervous….losing jota and mooy has probably added to that ….there was talk of a 30 million war chest before the sale of jota ….I never believed that …but with the sale surely 30 million would now be achievable and certainly not breaking the bank !….

    On the fitba front am just delighted no qualifiers for the CL and Brendan can get a few new faces in, half time in Portugal and Summers has made it 3-1, we are already improving our away European form with the new Brendan :-)

    When I combine how much our club could be expected to pay and what level of player that would get us, I fail to see why so many are so desperate for new signings.

     

    I think we have about four players with whom everyone ( nearly) is happy. To get another seven like that would cost a lot more than we could afford (and no guarantee of success) and that is without taking into account their willingness to come to the SPFL.

     

     

    We have lost a real talent in Jota but I am sure we will not miss him as much as some seem to think.

     

     

    PS ….and much as I like Al Johnston, Anthony Ralston has proved an able deputy in the past and I am comfortable with him in Al`s place for a while.

    Do you think if Park was a Tim,would them over Ibrox travel on his buses,,McDades from I think from Uddingston are a good Tim company,we should be looking at them ,but to be honest this tired old board at Celtic who don’t share the same views as the Celtic fans have ,a few of them are well over retirement age ,they need to be moved on ,to be replaced with a younger dynamic board .
