Whyte opens door on finances as securitisation confirmed

991

Craig Whyte laid out Rangers finances in a statement today, released in response to the Daily Record’s series of articles on the club this morning.  Whyte explained Rangers operating costs are around £45m while their income is approximately £35m, adding that the club needs to “live within its means”.

He confirmed the central allegation from the Record, that Rangers have securitised income from future season ticket sales in order to provide money for the club to pay its current costs, while denying they owe £5m VAT.

I have refreshed the page several times since an initially read and see no attempt to address the glaring question, if Rangers are spending tomorrow’s income today, what happens tomorrow?  It beggars belief that someone thought it was a good idea to confirm a fact like without addressing the enormous question now hanging over the club.

Maybe an octopus ate Craig’s homework.

I’ve no idea how much money Rangers have in the bank right now, at this time on transfer deadline day, no one even seems to know if they have sold prize-asset, Jelavic, to Everton, but no matter how much of the securitised income remains, if this is not a dead parrot, it’s in severely poor health.

More power to you, Craig.  I’ll not have a word said against you.

  7. Octopus VCTs

Octopus Investments has been voted the “Best VCT Provider by Independent Financial Advisers in 2007, 2008 and 2009″. Octopus is one of the largest and most innovative VCT managers in the UK.

LOWER RISK VCT 1. The Octopus VCT will adopt a lower risk investment approach by investing in companies where Octopus believes there is a higher level of capital preservation. The main risk associated with traditional VCT investments is capital loss on investments (e.g. from a portfolio of private/AIM listed companies). The Octopus VCT has been designed to mitigate these risks using both insurance and deal structure.

    2. The Octopus VCT will have up to 3 years to invest 70% its capital in qualifying investments. This allows the fund to invest in a range of non-qualifying investments during this time, where the risk/return profile is consistent with the VCT’s objective of capital preservation.

    3. The VCT will invest in specially created businesses that operate low risk business models. As these businesses have been specifically created to receive the VCT funds they are not taking the risks normally associated with traditional qualifying companies that are seeking to consistently grow and increase profits.

    4. The specially created businesses will help improve short term cash flows for other companies, through a qualifying trade. Should there be any credit risk to the funds this will be protected using Credit Default Insurance.

    5. This investment strategy has been successfully used in up to 10 Tranches of the Octopus Protected EIS.

    EXAMPLE COMPANY – TICKETUS

THE BUSINESS The Ticketus business model is based on purchasing an allocation of tickets for an event, up to two years in advance. (An example of this will be season tickets for English Premiership Football Clubs.)

Event organisers receive a discounted price versus face value for their tickets in return for an immediate level of ticket sales. Ticketus is then able to sell the tickets on to the general public at face value, to mitigate the potential distribution risk. The event organisers will distribute this portion of tickets first through their normal distribution channels, which allows Ticketus to recover its original investment, plus a margin.

Get investment advice now or call us on 0800 678 5929

PROTECTION Ticketus only buys tickets for well established, long running events that regularly sell out. It only buys a portion of the tickets available, and ensures its tickets are sold ahead of other stocks available. By buying in bulk and in advance, Ticketus is able to purchase at a discount to the price at which it intends to sell the tickets.

LIQUIDITY In order to provide investors with a clear exit route, the Octopus VCT Directors intend to seek shareholder approval to wind up the Octopus VCT and return capital to shareholders after the end of the five year holding period. Octopus expects that this approval will take place at the AGM scheduled to be held in August 2015.

This will allow investors to release capital, or perhaps re-invest into a new VCT and receive another tranche of 30% income tax relief (assuming that the appropriate VCT legislation is still in force in 2015).

TARGETED MINIMUM RETURN Over the life of the investment, this product is designed to deliver a minimum effective tax free return of 50%, after all fees and charges. This is calculated as 100p invested less the 30p income tax relief (which provides an effective net investment cost of 70p) with a targeted minimum return to investors of 105p. This equates to an annualised tax free return of 7.85% (equivalent to a return of 13.08% per annum for a 40% taxpayer). Octopus will not receive their AMC until this has been achieved.

OCTOPUS INVESTMENT TEAM With a total of 120 staff including a team of over 30 investment professionals, Octopus has over £230 million invested in 17 VCTs under Octopus management.

  8. Rangers manager fails to convince board to support him

Ally McCoist failed to convince Rangers chairman Craig Whyte to release funds to sanction deadline day additions to his squad, STV understands.

A meeting was held between the pair at Ibrox on Tuesday evening, with McCoist arriving with a copy of the club’s injury list to emphasise his need for fresh blood.

Striker Nikica Jelavic has been sold to Everton in a deal worth £5m plus add-ons, representing the loss of a player who has scored 17 goals for the club this season.

McCoist had identified Norwich City striker Grant Holt as a replacement for the Croatian, and had hoped to get a chunk from the sale of Jelavic to table a significant bid for the 30-year-old.

Rangers instead tabled a cut-price officer for the Englishman, which was instantly rebuffed.

McCoist had other possible targets – St Johnstone’s Francisco Sandaza, Rapid Vienna’s Hamdi Salihi and Falkirk’s Kallum Higginbottom.

But the club hierarchy decided not to make a last minute move for any of the trio, with McCoist leaving Ibrox ashen-faced following his unsuccessful meeting.

I feel his pain, no eally I do

It seems Paul Slane is away to MK Dons………..I wonder what he’ll learn from Alan Smith!

  10. Well as transfer windows go that was pretty decent! We are stronger and they are weaker.

Two big away games coming up at ICT and Hearts. Positive results in these and we will be in a very strong position indeed.

I’m really looking forward to the rest of this season.

PS – do you think Mr Celek is impressed with his new club?

  11. young Paul Slane gone to MKDons on loan – good

    Lewis and James out too

and i saw that DUtd yesterday signed former Celtic trialist Milos Lacny on loan for 1yr

u17s result tonight glesga cup, rfc 12 paritck 1, was cold over there, rfc some decent young players

  12. Thanks Andrew for getting us up and running again.

Any late surprises from the Hoops? or are we being sensible and doing all of our work early doors.

What was the fee for Jelavic btw, if it is well under £4million then it is a lot more realistic.

Happy about this window but Celtic Must kick on from here and forget all about that other mob, we have a Big season ahead of us next year and it is imperative that we get into the CL group stages. We should be looking for the close 1 goal margin wins being turned into consistent 3 or 4 goal margins from here on in IMO.

Exactly. But why are we scrambling about in the last hours of the transfer window trying yo bring in guys like Best on loan.

  15. Before I go to my bed can someone confirm for me that what I have just read on Phil Macs site is the distinct possibility that there is some very dubious activity indeed suspected at Ibrox?

    I’m talking criminal.

It is a real ‘rub your eyes in disbelief’ article.

They really seem to have taken the ‘Wee Arra Peepul’ thing too far.

But still, I do not want them going bust before the league campaign is over. No excuses for them. Heck I hope they stay within touching distance of us until we can hand them a spanking at the bigot dome in front of their last full house for many years to come.

Criminal so it is. Pure criminal.
