Whyte’s proxy set to step forward for acceptance by SFA, SPL

984

When Duff and Phelps put their initial deadline in place for bidders for Rangers back in March, Celtic Quick News took the view that Craig Whyte was the only show in town and that any successful bid for the company’s assets would have to come from him or his proxy.

We didn’t know who his proxy would be then and we are still not sure – although we could have a pretty good guess.

Place the current SPL and SFA dramas aside for a moment.  If a deal is done to allow a Rangers-Newco to apply to play football next season the new ‘owner’ will be a Craig Whyte appointment.

If this unfolds in the days to come, I fully expect the SFA will take a very long time to consider any Fit and Proper questions, and I expect the SPL board will vote 4-1 to allocate a share in the league to the Newco.

Celtic, united with their own fans, and fans of the Gang of 10 clubs stand in one corner.  The boards of the Gang of 10 want Rangers-Newco money too much to object.  Don’t even count on Newco being subject to the penalties discussed at yesterday’s meeting.

A CQN’er is raising funds for the Wellburn Care Home in Dundee.  Run by the Little Sisters of the Poor, Welburn offers incredible residential support for those in need in the Dundee area.  It is only a viable concern through the dedication of the sisters and volunteers and fundraising initiatives such as sales of work, coffee mornings etc.

You can support their work by bidding for a Celtic top signed by the first team squad at this eBay auction.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

If we Bhoycott away games, it will impact on our results, that’s guaranteed!

    We cannot argue illogically.

You or I may not miss the Rangers fixture but it is unarguably a popular fixture. Demand for tickets is high and, however distasteful their bile is, many of our fans are willing to go to Ibrox to provide support to our players in that atmosphere and to tolerate their bile at CP.

I acknowledge that we must do without the Rangers fixture for the sake of financial probity. It will be a sacrifice for many rather than a boon to have to do so but it must be done.

Rangers crimes are too great to be fooled by this “too big to fail” rhetoric.

On a day when the all-powerful Rupert has been publicly and embarrassingly upbraided, the Rangers are small fry and should suffer their fate.

The equation for me remains simple.

Pay back your debts and you can keep your ill gotten gains and re-join civilised society as a repentant thief.

Or foreclose and lose your history. Some new club may take your place and attract your supporters but, unless they pay your debts, they will not, and should not be Rangers.

And black burning shame on any who support the evil equation where they ditch their debts but keep their history.

  7. I suspect that the Celtic board can openly say that they want Rangers to keep going. Kev n Chic should add that they also want them to pay their bills and a whole host of other things.

I get the impression that a lot of collars are geting felt in Scotland these days. The Spl did not allow big cuddly Rangers straight back in. As an earlier blogger said “a charm offensive” is now on and we wait to see who is going to stump up the money. Meanwhile Uriah Heep singlehandedly takes down ledgers and puts ledgers back up on the shelves as the HMRC hurtles towards a decision.

    =================================================

I am a Celtic supporter. I cannot see any logic in wanting to hurt Celtic as a way of responding to the cheating of others.

I have no idea if Dermot Desmond is in to saving them. He’s a Billionaire and I know if I met him I would be arguing with him – his wealth puts him off my Christmas card list – but he isn’t Celtic, I can’t hurt Celtic because of him either. He may ‘own’ more of Celtic PLC than the rest of us but he doesn’t ‘own’ Celtic – he doesn’t own the support, he doesn’t own what it means to us.

QUite simply he ain’t part of the equation. I cannot see how damaging Celtic helps. There seems no logic to it.

Would love to see it and would spend my cash to watch but can’t see this as being feasible either, as I said Celtic are part of the club that is the SPL and could not be seen to be doing anything to the detriment of their fellow members. Beamback from Killie while that club is dying from lack of revenue is not something that PL, DD, or NL could be a party to.

That is not to say that they wouldn’t love to see it happen in certain cirucmstances.

PL is keeping his council for a reason, unknown as yet.

The media are just towing the party line, they are trying to convince themselfs as much as placating the hoards that everything will be hinky dory.

Celtic have every right not to be giving the nod to a new SPL club to replace rangers. We’ve, that’s you and me, WE’VE have allegedly been cheated out of MANY MILLIONS of pounds by the dying rangers. What are we suppose to say if that turns out to be the case – oh well, some you win? No chance. Justice is being ran roughshod over by the very people whose respectability it is to ensure that this should never happen.

whatever new football club emerges to take the place of a dead rangers, starting in Div 3 is GETTING OFF VERY VERY LIGHTLY if you ask me.

    All together now…

  17. I have a hunch that much of what Doncaster is saying is kite-flying or coat-trailing if you prefer. He would like to get away with this if he could but he has more than Celtic or their fans to contend with.

The reaction of the Celtic board and the Celtic fans will be known when the problem we face becomes clearer.

The Celtic fans rose to the challenge in 1994 and won the day. I have no doubt that once our task is clear then we will do the same again.

What I was thinking was that before cancellation we need to engage Sky re their contract intentions.

In the end it would be very difficult for all of us to switch off something that’s our passion but we’ll only know if we have influence if we can establish potential numbers and a cost to Sky if we did withdraw.

We keep hearing how Sky demand 4 Rangers Celtic matches and how the loss of Rangers will affect the contract.

What we don’t know is what Sky’s position would be given a Rangers Newco in the SFL as a scenario.

This would give us an opportunity to test that water. It may also serve to get a message back to such as Doncaster and the gang of 10 that integrity is a serious issue and that the loss of it may have a financial impact too.

What I’d like to suggest is that each person gives me enough details to show Sky that this is a serious concern for all involved and may well result in a serious loss of custom for them.

I’d like each person to give me say their account number (to establish for Sky that I’m not making it up) and the amount paid each month in total and for Sports so that I can assess the effect if only Sports were cancelled though some may want to take the option of cancelling altogether.

To any misguided Celtic supporter who proclaims that they would miss the Glasgow derby I wouls say that days like Sunday’s 3-0 victory and last seasons humbling of the H*ns are too often cancelled out by games at Ibrox and Hampden and even CP where legitimate Celtic goals/penalty claims are ruled out for obscure reasons and that our bitter rivals are awarded goals/offside decisions/penalty kicks for obscure reasons. Remember the instances of 9 Celts booked (McGeady for his first foul), 3 orderings off, NL sent to the stand and a ton of other injustices that have left us coming away from games fuming and with a bad taste in our mouths.

Glasgow derbies are set up for them to win. We win only by accident which generally involves Celtic having to perform excellently on the day.

Think how the record books should read trophy wise Rangers 54 titles should read about 47 and Celtic’s should read about 50. Now think of the resources they have had down through the years compared to the resources we have had to play with. Celtic are an astonishing club. Our record is absolutely wonderful. We punch above our weight. We don’t need to be held back by a club whom everyone acknowledges has broken the rules (cheated). They should be punished severely – termination of membership/ demotion to Division 3 whatever – but please see the real picture, Celtic do not need them and would thrive without them.

We need the other clubs to step up to the plate and do the right thing. It is their chance to seize the opportunity to improve and fill the void left by the infamous Glasgow Rangers. Their chance to be a healthy, non-toxic, competitive rival to Celtic.

  28. Robert – Celtic need to take a brave pill and state their position publicly – that Rangers have cheated and need punished and that Celtic will fight any move to allow a newco to reenter the SPL.

Celtic should also threaten the SPL and SFA with appealing to UEFA and then request that UEFA help Celtic leave the scottish set up as we believe the position is untenable.

You dont need to damage Celtic if instead of buying ST and TV subscriptions and merchandise you buy shares with that money instead. In fact it will be an incredible investment. You will be investing in a franchise that does not even need to pay tax and living in an environment where it cannot fail. You will of course have to watch the games on an illegal feed but anyone chastising you for that while self same franchise avoids paying tax needs to go and have a long hard look at themselves.

Your words are re-assuring. I cannot see why our Board would play along with this and make a nonsense of their previous prudence.

But, given that we are proscribed by football regulations from suing the SFA or UEFA for allowing this financial con to be perpetrated, we can only plead for our point of view to be heard.

I hope their silence means that UEFA have given favourable indications of their support for our line but I fear there is a great deal of steam being built up that will see two situations emerge:-

Either rangers newco will be parachuted into the SPL with their history preserved, as a special case.

Or Rangers will seek entry into the SFL at some level and will carry a permanent sense of injustice that others forced them to this end.
