BBC Radio Scotland had just started their phone-in at 9am. Stephen Jardine introduced his first caller, a guy from Glasgow who supported Boris. Jardine broke off for the breaking news that Boris was resigning. After a couple of minutes, back to the caller.

He said it was a “tragedy”. I kid you not.

    Who ARE these beings?

Cannot believe the comments about missing the qualifiers.

That’s what happens when you don’t read the whole story. You end up making an arse of yourself. Clown.

  3. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Guy’s fingernails will be sore and getting sorer.

Desperately trying to cling on until after summer recess

… and for no other reason than being able to say he lasted longer in the job than his predecessor.

    A truly pathetic human being.

    History will not be kind.

Who are these beings / people — worthy of study.

BoJo for too many is a political social worker.

The tabloids — Star / Scum / DR sports pages — treat their readers like children.

After 11 years of compulsory schooling — they then dumb down their view of the real world.

It is all a game and when it comes to game show politics — BoJo was world king.

Flowery language / comic book concepts / cheap jibes — and too many lapped it up.

He was theirs because he dropped down to their levels and took them with him.

He made it simple / they were hooked and then they were off like Toad on a bender.

He gave them an identity and they gave him power — what could possibly go wrong.

    1) Life is complex / life is fast moving / life is challenging — help.

    2) Take all that away and too many people will respond with adoration.

No matter the solution on offer.

You won’t like me saying this but the Nats are a cult that follows the BoJo path.

Steps one and two — independence will solve everything — rinse and now repeat.

  5. Back to

Like all divisive characters there will be 2 versions of history a la Thatcher

So please explain why the English were so willing to fall for his pish?

Poor working class people in the Nth of England on tv this morning bemoaning his demise.

Kinda blows out the unionist theory that everyone in the UK is the same.

    Q a 50’s comparison from Ernie.

  9. Hopefully the shenanigans over the last few days can at least put to bed any notion that the Tory party are a cult.

They are many things, but they are not a cult.

  10. BoJo vs EM — discuss.

The desire to have lots of children is common.

So is the ability to talk shi**

Brexit didn’t catch on so much in Scotland because it was daft to blame all the problems on Brussels and the EU when you were already blaming them on Westminster and the UK. I mean how many scapegoats does anyone need?

Having said that it’s reckoned about one third of those in Scotland who voted for Brexit were SNP supporters.

Probably more long standing hardcore supporters too, who have been voting SNP since it was official party policy to leave the EU, as was the case when Sturgeon joined the Party.

  14. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Interesting observation Gene,

(And it was noticeable yesterday how often parallels were drawn with Margaret Thatcher’s demise).

… but I suspect the efforts to define his legacy in positive terms (despite enormous effort) will fail miserably.

I despised just about everything Margaret Thatcher stood for but, undeniably, she was an outstanding leader of the Conservative Party and was a genuine conviction politician.

    This clown is neither.

The surface of his amoral, dysfunctional approach has barely been scratched.

Once he is removed and his spin machine dismantled ?

Previously silent tongues will wag unabated and the revelations will continue for years.

Concurrent to that process will be the evidence (and it’s gradual acceptance) of the true economic impact of Brexit.

History can sometimes take decades, generations, even centuries to define and layer legacies of individuals.

    Not this guy.

Within a decade his place as the worst PM in UK history (by a country mile) will be assured.

I accidentally read the above post and found it interesting . Hmm…

PS I the reading itself wasn`t accidental but, had I noticed the author`s name, I would have exercised my normal scrolling past.Hmm…again :-))

BoJo and his electoral tribe are a cult.

Throughout history any Tory leader and the unthinking “majority” of the Tory vote are a cult.

Cap doffing / swooning / cheering to order / forgiveness / excuse mongers.

All in play and they vote — they vote early and they vote often.

BoJo just widened this rabble / took it North.

The political wing of the Tory party is not a cult — just full of careerists / chancers.

The Nats have just taken this dynamic to uncharted depths.

Nat political wing = tight / disciplined / breathe in unison / single purpose — their career / cap doffers / swooners / cheerers / look the other way’ers / excuse mongers..

Nat voting wing = identity politics / simple solutions to complex problems / true believers / cap doffers / swooners / cheering / forgiveness / excuse believers.

    Cult at both levels.

  17. Back to

He hasn’t gone yet – perhaps a Falkland’s type incident is required over the summer

  18. SAINT STIVS on 7TH JULY 2022 10:18 AM

I think The Star was up for sale a couple of years back. Did it sell and, if so, has it changed?

  19. Seemingly BoJo’s current bint is now — as I type — steaming the wallpaper of the walls in Downing Street.

    Classy burd.

  20. Whoever takes over from Boris will have to campaign for both lower taxes AND on breaking the Treaty over NI and start another Trade War. This will cause suffering all over the UK but it poses a problem for any future Independent Scotland (and the referendum campaign). We always have to consider how we can run a mixed economy or a Socialist one alongside an England or England /Wales pursuing Charlie Haughey politics and how will we meet EU economic terms for entry as an Independent Scotland without being forced to adopt similar. Mel Gibson’s freedom is a lot different to Kris Kristofferson’s definition.

  21. Boris Johnson resigning or staying will not affect anything in my life. I believe that will be pretty much the same for just about everyone I know or have known.

    Cheerio for now.

  22. B2B @ 10.14

Please use dettol and steel wool to give yourself a good clean.

Maggie was not a conviction politician.

She was just a fluke who got lucky — KJ and his implosion.

She was young / new / very pliable.

She had done what TH / education establishment wanted her to do.

She was given a personality by her team and the press and she ran with it.

She became what they wanted her to be and then on seeing the transformation …

… she milked it for all that it was worth.

She had no convictions — she was fed them by her booster club / press fan club and then she was off like a 2 bob rocket.

Please do not make her more than she really was — father obsessed draft dodger.

  23. Re cycling.

Renfrewshire council has done some job in converting old ugly state of disrepair pavements into miles and miles of wide beautifully tarmacked smooth flat perfect to ride on cycle pathways.

You can now go from Bishopton to renfrew on these marvellous surfaces .And all around the airport, and the new manufacturing district and the new bridge over the cart, marvellous.

Narrowing the roads is just a wee side effect drivers can live with. Since reopening I do like to drive to work safe in the knowledge that i wont be endagering any cyclist anymore, as i try to squeezy past.

6 miles of cycle paths i passed today ……………..

Number of cyclist on pathway – 1.

Number of cyclists on roads – 4.

    I mean it

  24. Gene 10.24,

Good call, maybe declare war on Russia, that will teach the Plebs not to underestimate Boris,

I can imagine Teresa May is enjoying her cup of tea this morning as indeed is David Cameron,

However despite what Ernie said, the entire Conservative Party are a shower of Cults & that includes Teresa & David.

  25. T7 @ 10.05

England had Brexit — blame it on Brussels.

Scotland has Scexit — blame it on Westminster.

Why does Not-Jacinda have to push for Indy Ref2 when she knows it will fail at every level?

Because Scexit now has BoJo levels of engagement with a large part of the electorate.

They have been marched up to the top of the hill and they aren’t for moving.

The exact same dynamic that is now in play from BoJo’s Barmy Brexit Army.

If she was to postpone her drive for Scexit until 2027/ 30 to deal with current problems — you would have BoJo levels of bleating / chest beating from their Scottish equivalents.

Same one club mentalists — just different issues in play.

It all comes down to the curse of identity politics.

  26. Not very subtle — Not Jacinda and her Keep the Tories alive plan.

The last thing she wants / needs is KS on the steps of 10 Downing Street mumbling the words to the Red Flag with AnS by his side ready to de-tartanise Scotland.

Not-Jacinda / BoJo — match made in heaven by Old Monkey Glands.

I wonder who history will judge to have told the bigger un-truths — Not-Jacinda vs BoJo?

Showed the better leadership — Alec the EDI octopus vs Pincher of the Carlton Club ?

  27. Dylan Levitt moving to Dundee United on a permanent.

    Terrific signing for them.

Is it too early to think that DUFC, Hibs and even the Dons signing beyond the usual SPFL journeymen might be a reason to be cheerful?

    Oh and eff the Huns
