WILSON JOINS DUMBARTON AS WAKASO RETURNS

Former Celtic full back Mark Wilson has joined Dumbarton on a short term deal after his contract with Dundee United was terminated last month by mutual consent.

Dumbarton manager Ian Murray is pleased to have secured the services of the experienced defender who won one cap for Scotland, against Northern Ireland in 2011.

Murray said: “Mark has plenty of experience having played at the top level in Scotland.

“He’ll do well for us over the remaining games in the season.”

Wilson moved from Dundee United to Celtic in 2006 for £500,000. Injury restricted his appearances for Celtic but the player did manage to wear the Hoops on more than 100 times during his six years at the club before moving to Bristol City and then back to Dundee United.

Celtic fans will remember the winner he scored against Rangers in the Scottish Cup in his last season at Parkhead.

Meanwhile Mubarak Wakaso has returned to Celtic after helping Ghana to the runner’s-up spot in the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, all indications point to the winger heading back to Russian outfit Rubin Kazan when his loan period ends in the summer.

Ronny Deila signed three players in last month’s transfer window with Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong joining from Dundee United and Michael Duffy arriving from Derry City.

Wakaso, 24, featured for his nation in the World Cup Finals in Brazil last summer, but has struggled to make an impact at the Hoops, playing just 10 games and scoring only once.

With Rubin Kazan likely to be looking for several million for the player it is not probably something that Celtic will be eager to progress with as Ronny Delia looks to buy locally.
