Win over HJK worth at least £6m to Celtic

1408

Celtic will receive £1.65m from the Uefa revenue distribution system for participating in the Champions League play-off round against Helsingborgs.  Add to that around £1m gate money and the guarantee of at least three Europa League games, with Uefa distribution money, you can calculate the value of Wednesday’s win over HJK Helsinki as no less than £6m (all figures are net of vat).  Quite a prize for one game.

Compare this to the projected income from newco The Rangers, who claimed to have sold 25,000 season tickets.  If all sales were at full adult prices (£258 in vat), net income would be £5.375m.

Should Celtic overcome Helsingborgs and reach the Champions League group stage, the club will return to a remarkably strong financial footing.

    Come on ,Syd.

    You get it wrong too.

You spent months ,perhaps a year asking what happened to the Aiden Mc Geadie money and laying into Peter Lawwell for not spending it.

After all that time P.L.announced that the money had just been received.

    True?

  2. SydneyTim on 12 August, 2012 at 01:40

Sydney, have you ever had any grasp on reality?

PETER LAWWELL has promised Celtic fans he’ll continue to act in the best interests of their club during a turbulent time for Scottish football.

The Parkhead chief executive’s statement comes with Old Firm rivals Rangers still trying to find a buyer after being forced to call in the administrators in February over an unpaid tax bill accrued since Craig Whyte’s takeover last May.

Preferred bidder Bill Miller – who withdrew his offer earlier this week – favoured a ‘newco’ route had he gained control of the stricken club and such a scenario has yet to be ruled out as administrators hold talks with other interested parties.

Under such circumstances, the top-flight clubs would vote whether to allow a ‘newco’ Rangers back into the SPL.

In a statement on his club’s official website, Lawwell said: “We are fully aware of our supporters’ concerns regarding the current situation across Scottish football and the breadth of opinion within our supporter base.

“The issues are complex and there is much uncertainty. Indeed, the situation repeatedly changes, even on a daily basis.

“I am sure our supporters understand that these developments are receiving our full focus and attention.

“Our guiding principle is that we will do what is in the best interests of Celtic Football Club and our supporters, consistent with upholding the interests and reputation of Scottish football.

“I can also give an assurance that we will communicate further and directly with our supporters at the appropriate time.”

  3. in the name of the wee man, wich I’d read some bolg before posting that last.

When I see an argument qouting MSM bampots as be all and end all we’re finished. the whole point of this blog is to expose the pish in the press. I gie in. the daily mail !!!! jeebus.

midweek we hear on here that beattie told the gers to stick it, walked away, because money wasn’t enought. So as predicted, couple of days later, I read n several MSM the following unclaimed material….”Beattie denies his demands scuppered Rangers deal”. ‘Rangers’ sic. Sursprised I didn’t see ” We won’t be held to ransom”. Today on radio I hear that sevco’s match was a “great advert for the 3rd division” and MSM bampots claiming “not every 3rd division game is as entertaining as that…” how the f@@@ would they know, when were those lazy bassas last at a thrid division league match !!!!!!!!!

the more things change the more they stay the same.

Sevco are a third div club and only deserve our pity….mixed with disinterest

  4. Bloke. I agree. Reinvested means 1st team salary and wages and not just in transfer fees

Not 2 million to the bank. No strength of the imagination is that reinvested

One of Peter lawells Kpi is bank debt, so choice of giving money to Neil to reinvest or bank debt. We know which one won and sadly for fans was wrong one, but good financially for PL

You are quite right. Meant to say john Reid He let cat out of the bag and put lawell in it

If anybody noticed. I did. Caught out again Peter

One law for ref lying and one for our CEO

  5. Bloke. Neil Lennon is a Celtic fan :)). Ref was forced to resign because of campaign

Macjay. No idea what you are talking about

All I know is that Neil wanted money for a center half and we paid 2 million of aidens money to the bank

Daily Mail – hmmmm….. you’ve got a lot to learn about the MSM don’t you ?

Every penny will be re-invested; not “spent on other players”.

Its widely accepted that Celtic would reduce debt, to be able to operate properly.

You can’t handle that – would you rather we went gung-ho in the transfer market and ladled ourselves with crippling debt ?

    In addition, what the hell are you talking about with this statement;

“Are you also now saying that Brian Quinn did not say that Neil Lennon was the clubs only candidate , are you calling him a liar?”

Seriously ? Please, take a pill, calm down, and let the drugs kick in; you need a rest

There are two types of people in this world.

    Charming or tedious.

Doesn’t really matter what they do.

  8. I should add, despite claiming how entertaining their day out at 3rd division was, these are all the same guys who unanimoulsy claimed scottish football would die if a cheat was punished or rules of a sporting competition were adhered to.

I pay for three season tickets a year, if this onslaught of ‘what scotish football needs’, ‘punished enough’, ‘still rangers’, results in SPL 2 and the huns straight back I won’t spend another penny in scottish football

  9. and posts I have read from Sydney Tim tonight are the poorest I have ever read on this blog.

    goodnight

  10. see the pish you hear from people paid to talk….

    bbc sport. ref hockey

    hockey roundup

“scored just before half time to give them a psychologocal advantage…” then goes on to say their opponents equalised early in the second half

    who are these dunces

  11. Perhaps we should ditch Peter Lawell …

After all some big clubs are willing to take him off our hands …

    Such as arsenal .

We could bring in Martin Bain for free and give him a blank cheque book!

    Sign some decent players …

    Accumulate millions in debt ….

Liquidate the club and our glittering history.

    And just start again !

Just do we can see a couple of Jordan rhodes type players !!

    FFs Git a grip .

Pl is doing a fantastic job!

A well run club with the east end phoenixing up around us…..

And further plans of redevelopment by our club!

  12. Sydney Tim,

I’m not sayin your wrong, but I am hundoubtedly very happy with the financial strategy pursued by our board, particularly in comparison with the The Rangers. Our club has refused to roll the dice and/or play high stakes poker with our club & our future. I’d be furious if they’d done anything else. I’m not daft enough to suggest that money’s not important, but I do think that a positive outlook can make you happier and improve your life. We all know -ve thinking brings -ve results. Just try thinking +vely for a few days. If you really, really, try & don’t feel better for it, let us know. I’m just saddened that u have such a -ve outlook. C’mon. give it a go – what have you got to lose?

Actually, I take back my first comment, I think you are wrong ;)

It’s a quote from some clever guy, that tragically seems true.

Oor Sally is charming, so his behaviour is classed differently.

The airport is called George Best, rather than Alcoholic wife beater Airport.

    See, these are charming men.

One or two of our posters tonight seem less than charming.

Which is why I said it.

But Mr109, you have charmed me into a long post.

    A rare talent.

  14. Sydneytim..

We are very lucky to have Peter Lawell .

Many huge clubs would love to accquire our CEO

    Spend £6m on who???

    Jordan Rhodes ????

I would much prefer seeing £6m spent on our youth development …..

Cherry picking the creme of EUROPES youth with promises of opportunity to get into the 1st team and a long term view to selling them on!

    That is my dream

  15. Pauloantony. I agree that we should not in the future sign murphys, Wilson’s , bangura

    Money down the drain

And indeed more into youths as not really seen any conveyor belt into starting 11

But for fans to say that giving Neil and extra 2-4 million for a much needed center half will push our club into liquidation is frankly beyond a joke

Peter lawell has lied and been found out on several occasions, no getting away from it

His policies lost our clubs huge amounts of income in Europe

His grabbin 1 million from boric when we had no defense and only a goalie, then a defense with no goalie was franky corporate mismanagement

If fans want to take lawells lies to the fans fair enough, it’s a free county

His record in qualifying for CL has been franky awefull, no EBT ‘s at Utrecht or Braga

Let’s put the record straight. I believe we should have a 1st squad of no more than 15 players

We should have 2 center halfs who are 1st choice and 2 strikers that a 1st choice

I believe our team should be made up of 80% young players with 2 quality internationals

We don’t waste our money on proven duffers like Wilson and Murphy

  16. Okay ST……I’ve had enough of your unmitigated guff….yer a hun. In denial, and wearing green perhaps….a hun nonetheless…..you’re sooooo negative and full of misinformation and disinformation that there is only one conclusion. Begone.

  17. Mike. The Kelly’s would still be running Celtic if the majority of fans were like you then

Thank god we questioned then and we still have the right to question

  18. kdc on 12 August, 2012 at 02:05

Agree with you’re points about the huns and the MSM manipulation of the facts. It’s simply grotesque what they’re attempting. They’re attempting to wear every decent fan down with this concerted campaign to get the huns reinstated into the top flight. They wont rest either. Vested interests et al

However, there’s a world of a difference between contributing a penny towards Scottish football and supporting Celtic. I hope you never lose sight of that fact.

  19. Typical of a “everything is Rosy brigade”. Given facts that lawell lied and called a Hun

Think of all those car park “Huns” in 1994. Those Huns who boycotted and asked the questions and saw through the spin

  20. SydneyTim on 12 August, 2012 at 03:18

The old board arent the new board.

Your problem is that you dont trust any CEO or Corporate body regardless of any facts.

A wannabe antipodean green brigader. Thank God they dont exist.

Best summed up as a rebel without a cause.

  21. Sydneytim… For every murphy and bangoura we will unearth a mulgrew or a kayal

Some work some don’t it will always happen!

But in today’s financial climate it is even more important to work within a planned budget.

Lawell doesn’t pay himself … Celtic football club does ..

And if he draws a good wage?

Well he must be doing a good job??

We are not in the same financial footing as the MON era and with the Orc demise this will effect us off field as well as on for years !

I expect at least 2-3 big players of ours moving on in jan and a few new projects being brought in….

I am happy with that .

    Discuss.

So what is Lawwell’s vision of Celtic now that the huns are gone?

It used to be “whit are the huns daein?”

Now there’s nae huns so what is it?

I suspect it may be “Bide yer time -get gubbed in Europe – and wait and see what HMRC are gonna dae in the EPL”. I think the Donut has rewarded him handsomely on this tele-vision.

Peter Lawwell’s total Salary + Bonus in the years since joining Celtic PLC

excluding shares are as follows (in pounds for the years I could find it published):

    2004 165,961

    2005 298,961

    2007 393,236

    2008 550,120

    2009 738,987

    2011 800,200

    Not funny.

  24. Margaret…he doesn’t pay himself?

He is paid for reaching targets …

    Which he has !

That’s why the. Likes of arsenal want him as he is good at what he does .

I guarantee that we will rue the day he leaves and realise what a good job he did

    No Kelly`s,no Celtic.

    Not a complete exaggeration.

  28. Cant verify source but normally reliable (ex SFA technical dept associate)

David Longmuir before announcing Huns wouldnt be held accountable for any cheating supposedly tried to circumvent independent tribunal investigation into huns cheating.

requested proof (originals) from BBC et al regarding Dual Contracts and was referred to SFA. Relationship with SFA in complete meltdown. Regan and Doncaster refused to budge. Longmuir requests Dual Contracts investigation should be dropped altogether as part of Hun admittance to third tier which was knocked back on the grounds that due process must be completed.

Regan has repeatedly refused to accede to his demands. Apparently Longmuir’s the Establishments preferred candidate for SFA Chief Executive once Regan steps down after governing bodies restructuring. A Hun in the making by all accounts.

If you agree with me that this is in fact the Donuts vision until one day he is seen

as the ultimate Green Master Flash of the EPL then say so. I dont mind it if that’s his vision for Celtic. I think we should be tellt. However, if he’s playing for a toy train set we should be tellt that tae.
