Wind of change set to blow through Lennoxtown

892

There appears to be nothing more than a desire to move-on behind Johan Mjallby’s decision to leave Celtic at the end of the season but it leaves the original four man coaching team of Neil Lennon, Alan Thompson, Mjallby and Garry Parker reduced down to two.  The management team needs to be rebuilt.

Assistants do more than just put the cones out and get players go through their paces.  They are an extra pair of eyes and ears, at the side of the field and in the dressing room.  When they are most effective, they are a source of learning, bringing improved techniques and ideas into the club, forcing the manager to reconsider established practices.

Strip some of the greats of their productive partners and they proved to be prosaic underachievers; Cough without Taylor was a sorry sight.  By contrast, Ferguson played the assistants’ game perfectly, swapping them every few years to enhance his stock with fresh flavour.

Alan Thompson was not directly replaced but irrespective of the speculation which constantly surrounds the club, a wind of change will blow through Lennoxtown this summer, filling the gaps in the original four man team.

If you’ve wondered about getting involved with some of the charity events surrounding the club there is a perfect opportunity coming up.  The Foundation is having a badge day at the Dundee United game on Sunday 11 May.  This is an important opportunity to anchor the ethos of the club to its roots by engaging thousands of Celtic fans in the simple act of buying a badge for charity.

All monies raised will go towards supporting those afflicted by homelessness in the Glasgow area.  I volunteered to help on the day and offered to put the word around, over 100 bucketeers are needed.  If you want to help, all you’ll need to do is turn up early for the game, wear a hi-vis vest and hold a bucket, but I can assure you, you’ll enjoy it.  Email the foundation with your name and phone number: cfcfvolunteer@celticfc.co.uk .

    Morning all.

Mair Sevco PR in the Hootsman today to try and keep the deadies on board.

Colin Stien urges Rangers to re-sign Kris Boyd

COLIN Stein, scorer of two of the most important goals in Rangers’ history, believes the recapture of Kris Boyd would expedite a return to the top flight for the Ibrox club.

The striker netted the first goal in the 1972 European Cup-Winners’ Cup final and, in his second spell, headed into the Hibs net in 1975 to secure Rangers’ first title in 11 years and prevent Celtic from achieving ten in a row.

If those efforts represent quality, it is the quantity that Boyd will provide in the Championship next season that convinces Stein he should be recaptured.

Stein, 66, said: “Kris was notoriously called a lazy player but his job was to score goals and he scored a lot of them. He is the top scorer in the SPL so there is nothing wrong with his credentials.

“I always like to see goalscorers. He has done well at Kilmarnock and he will get more chances if he came back to Ibrox. I came back but was passed my sell-by date. We did win the league to break Celtic’s monopoly, which was a great memory. I think Kris is a natural goalscorer and they are hard to come by. You never see him for 89 minutes and then he scores a goal and that’s what being a top striker is all about,

“You don’t do your work on the right or the left wing – you do it in the box. In the Championship I think he would score a barrowload. I hear Hearts are after him too and they could be stronger next season because the youngsters will be more settled.”

    Mighty Tim

Read your account of your son’s treatment by CFC. Sadly, this sort of thing seems to be becoming all too common.

Other than trying to sanitaise the support, I am unable to figure out what Celtic’s angle in this could be. They must realise that notwithstanding economic downturn, no matches against huns, lack of competition etc, one of the main reasons that ordinary fans are turning away from Celtic Park is the level of blind complicity with forces that are no friends of the support.

That, along with the reference to R***ers in the renewal docs signal a PLC that is out of touch with the fans and taking us for fools.

Think I’ll hing off renewing for a while yet.

    Unlike the “walk awayers”.

Incidentally, don`t you wonder why they have to broadcast their intention to walk away? Why don`t they just do it?

Are they looking for bad publicity for Celtic?

    You make good points.

As a matter of balance, surprising that you don`t mention the role that Irishmen played in the creation of the British Empire?

    ==

What utter drivel. Ireland was part of those subjugated nations that the British Empire comprised of. The very first to sample the delights of English and Scottish rule. The fact that some Irish men chose to either join the British army or become involved in other nefarious activities related to the slave trade or the exploitation of other indigenous races is an irrelevance the fact is that Ireland did not willingly chose to participate or profit from the British Empire in fact the opposite is true.
