Winning against nearest rivals, Charlie Gallagher, Pablo

702

I don’t recall having seen us win the league against our direct competitors. Has it happened in the last 49 years? Yesterday’s results at Tynecastle and Pittodrie ensures that a point against Aberdeen on Sunday will be enough to confirm Celtic as 5-in-a-row champions. As it stands, a 17 goal win for Aberdeen would put us under pressure for the last two games of the season…..

This will be the fourth time in Scottish football history 5-in-a-row has been achieved and Celtic’s third. The last time we were here, Hay, Gemmell, Murdoch, McNeill, Johnstone, Wallace, Auld and Lennox did a lot of the heavy work, with youngsters like Macari, McGrain and Dalglish on the periphery of the team. It was a team which would soon embark on considerable change, which is at least one thing they have in comment with contemporary Celtic.

Another member of that Celtic team, Charlie Gallagher, left the club exactly 46 years ago today, after an extraordinary decade. Charlie will be on the blog tomorrow evening from around 7pm, to reminisce on that incredible era, answer questions and give an opinion or two. These are always great sessions, tune in and enjoy.

Five years ago today we lost Pablophanque, the first guy who said, “We need to bring Kano home”. Pablo was one of the few who made Celtic Quick News what it became in the early days. He made many friends here, who miss him still, and a profound impact on our community.

Maybe all Celtic supporters should stop smoking, drinking alcohol, swearing, they should also eat healthy and follow a decent fitness regime.

I came on here ages ago and posted that I could no longer afford a season book and, later that day he offered to take me to Celtic’s next home game and, ye know what….I instantly felt that, for a change….sumdy was being genuine and kind and not, trying to set a trap.

I declined the offer of course but I could tell the measure of the guy in an instant and yet, I wouldn’t know him if he passed me in the street. One day…I’d like to meet him and maybe share a Cellic beer or two(even though I don’t drink:)

Ok we’re all football guys to a greater or lesser degree.,

So I’m seeking views on youth football

I coach u 14 A league team as well as regional development squad.

Coming to end of the season so a wee refresh is my intention with the Youth league team 3or 4 in with same number going out.

Have any of you guys been on the end of this?

Did you need told your boy would be better elsewhere to get pitch time?

I hate this part of running teams.

Ideally you’d just keep developing same players but my experience is teams that do that lose better players.

Will probably finish 3rd this year in a very tight league. Could challenge next year with 3 better players.

    Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooopy birthday.

  26. Stats are valuable but can be misleading.

A good player in a poor team will have stats lower than his ability.

Always think about Man Utd’s Wes Brown and John O’Shea as two players who sold for a higher value than their actual ability.

Some Celtic players this season will have lower values due to our disjointed system.

Kante of Leicester was probably undervalued when bought due to playing for a poor team in French league 2.

If sold he may be overvalued.

I think he is the main reason for Leicesters success.

If he moves to a more dominant team with a different style his stats may change.

    Scott Brown is rubbish !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

??:?:?????,.This is the kind of fan we now have supporting Celtic. Dont care if its your opinion, its crap.

    ——————————————————————————————————————————————-

So supporting Celtic means you can’t have a critical opinion about any of the club’s players especially the captain. Utter pish.

Forums such as this are exactly the places to have these debates. I just happen to believe that the drive SB brings to the team does not compensate for his poor technique which often leads to us conceding goals as it did at Tynecastle at the week-end.

I also posed the question if the other players in the team are so dependant on SB’s drive and determination, are they really fit to wear the jersey in the first place? It was just as well Paul Hartley and Barry Robson and the rest of the team didn’t hang around for pining for Scott Brown’s drive and determination in the run-in to the 2007/8 season.
