Winning mindset

211

In several of Martin O’Neill’s 11 games in charge this season Celtic have been poor, the recent outing at Falkirk a case in point.  What’s clear, though, is Martin’s winning mindset.  Even when under pressure (late against Dundee) or facing several great chances (Falkirk), there was a high degree of confidence Celtic would get the job done.

In all honesty, the Europa League seems like a distraction this week.  The Scottish Premiership is all important and a visit to Edinburgh on Sunday weighs heavy on the mind.  That will not be how Martin O’Neill sees things, though.  That mindset will not allow anything other than the execution of a plan to win the game.  His first 11 will start the Europa League game on Thursday and – successful or not – they will take the field with confidence they can deliver.

You and I have watched too many Celtic away games in Europe to be too optimistic about the outcome.  Still, some of us have many reasons to never underestimate Martin O’Neill.

get ready for the next big gerrymandering since the border

  4. Not for me to dictate editorial policy on CQN, though the avoidance of any meaningful lead on player trading seems rather incongruous.

We are arguably weaker than this time last year

We are joint second in the league

    Our main competitors are strengthening

We are 20 days into a c32 day window

    If not now, then when?

  5. No new striker ? Midfield hard man ?

    It is terrible management.

I never agreed with P67’s view that waiting until late in a window forces the seller to negotiate at the buyers advantage.

Quiet the opposite, holding on to a player is holding on to an asset, seeking (desperately) a player is always a necessity. That is why we are ALWAYS the looser in these situations.

Such a pity: “JOCELIN TA BI’S agent has revealed the Celtic target was bombarded with abuse from Hoops fans after he lifted the lid on his collapsed move to Parkhead”.

  7. A point in Bologna (not easy) plus a win over Utrecht at home would probably be enough to get to the playoff round of the Europa.

‘Great guys bleed green and white’ – I don’t doubt they are.

He could have thanked Celtic’s second most decorated manager who had just completed consecutive doubles but wait……….ahem he didn’t – wonder why?

It’s not blameworthness of individuals it’s an expose and a lesson of how Celtic are run, dynamic, modern qualified executives might still be manacled to ‘ no investment ‘ .

But that’s another story for another day, – MON dealing with agents is not a good look and entirely of the board’s own making after their ridiculously ill conceived BR replacement.

We’re exactly where BR said in 2024 we shouldn’t be “ Scraping about at the end of the window” looking for bargains, precisely where big clubs, rarely go.

Balikwisha (good luck but not looking great for the guy) is an example of what you get on the last day for £5M – they haven’t learned a thing.

  9. Dexter P. Bampot on

Even if Celtic sign Kylian Mbappé this week (think a loan more likely than a full transfer), it is a disgrace that we’ve gotten to within days of the hertz match in this position

We hear of summits with MON. Is that to give a pretence of actual progress? Is it to quietly blame MON? WTF is the necessity for a summit?!?

  10. spikeysauldman on

the blogger – probably the same folk who threatened PLs life ?

Like it or not. My sense is that you like it …..your man has won his bitter wee game and taken Celtic for a ride.

It will be many years before, if ever, Celtic gets back to the level of dominance we had under Ange. It will be a long time watching our despised rivals pick up the ‘diddy cups’ Roger Mitchell seems to suggest are of no value.

So yes your man has won and those who adore him will no doubt celebrate with every hun goal scored as they go straight into next years CL for winning the SPFL this season. A prize well beyond our grasp.

Realistically only Shakhtar Olympiakos or Copenhagen can prevent it.

Huns have opened preliminary talks with Maswanhise. Top trolling.

If he signs for them whilst we buy no-one and sell Engles (entirely plausible) we will know Desmond is deliberately fucking us over (as if there was ever any doubt). Dinosaur.

  13. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

    Burnley

I don’t have all the facts on who did what, when to,apportion blame between Rodgers and Lawwell. But you have continually highlighted Desmond’s culpability in recreating that destructive dynamic. In which case if the future is as apocalyptic as you suggest (sounds right to me), you and I can at least agree this is on Desmond,

In which case can we agree Desmond’s time should be over and a change of leadership and strategic direction is required?

  14. boondock saint on

All joking aside, as it is past that stage now with regards to this transfer window, or the last, and our poor recruitment. The Huns have brought in 4 new players, no fuss, business done. All we hear about our lot is loan with a chance to buy. We are like the auld CO-OP. But why should we be surprised folks? This is how we have always done business, bar a few years where the purse strings were fairly loosened. As much as we say Keep the Faith, and we will, lose against the Hearts and there is no way we will claw back that deficit. I find myself resigned to anger when I watch Celtic these days, and yes the quality of player is not what it was, but the anger part comes from how we have went from the position we were in a few years ago, to the utter state we are in now. I am usually an upbeat Tim, but feel that along with the piss being ripped out of us, so is my heart. Even my kids have noticed a difference in their auld man after watching the games.

Sorry for the negative post my friends. We love Celtic, we really do, but….

    Sean

  15. Burnley,

My problem with you is,as in that last post, your bitchiness is overflowing as you try to get one back at your opponents.Sheer, red nails, and spitting venom.

You sound delighted that they could win the League,AND,hopefully qualify for the CL,and take great joy,in your Vipers nest of a brain,in laying that at Brendans door.

A Psychoanalyst would have a field day with you.

  16. BS

Your feelings are felt in every supporter who wants Celtic to be the best it can be, this board have literally blown the club apart.

How many years was Ange here ?

How quickly did he drop his knickers for the EPL ?

Do you even remember Anges games in Europe ? A “Stevie G-if-only-games-lasted-45 mins-we’d-have gotten-a-draw” versus a big team at home was the highlight.

  18. That Skov Olsen is a proven striker that the Ibrox lot have got. Without any difficulty, either.

As always, you wonder how the finances stack up – they seem to churn through a lot of players.
