Winning mindset

211

In several of Martin O’Neill’s 11 games in charge this season Celtic have been poor, the recent outing at Falkirk a case in point.  What’s clear, though, is Martin’s winning mindset.  Even when under pressure (late against Dundee) or facing several great chances (Falkirk), there was a high degree of confidence Celtic would get the job done.

In all honesty, the Europa League seems like a distraction this week.  The Scottish Premiership is all important and a visit to Edinburgh on Sunday weighs heavy on the mind.  That will not be how Martin O’Neill sees things, though.  That mindset will not allow anything other than the execution of a plan to win the game.  His first 11 will start the Europa League game on Thursday and – successful or not – they will take the field with confidence they can deliver.

You and I have watched too many Celtic away games in Europe to be too optimistic about the outcome.  Still, some of us have many reasons to never underestimate Martin O’Neill.

  1. Boondock Saint,

Yep,feel exactly the same.65 years of total devotion to this club, and this Board can make you hate them.

  2. if a board wanted Celtic to fail this is what they’d do

Not back Rodgers in summer transfer window – despite transferring 60 goals

Let the interim manager go after winning all his league games

Bring in a fantasy football manager, who plays totally different system, mid season

Wait too long to sack him

Bring back MON – MON says we desperately need a few players – last week of window and we are dithering as usual

    AGM shambles

    GB shambles

    Communication shambles

thats what deliberate failure looks like. We will lose to hearts and thereafter , I don’t GAF who we sign!

This board is causing fan anxiety and will drive many fans away! If they dont care , why should we !

  3. Burnley how can you praise Ange’s record and not Brendans? Ill be honest all I want from a Celtic manager is for him to be a winner. To me, both are exactly that, personal bitterness doesn’t come in to it for me. I assume you didn’t celebrate any of Brendans trophy wins?

  4. Ignore the daily distraction about previous managers, it’s a squirrel to try and take your attention away from the incompetent clowns we have running the Club right now.

  5. the long wait is over on

If it’s true that we are/ were in for Maswanhise and Rangers now are and if he does sign for them in a straight decision / preference for them over us as a better option ( all very big IFs) than that would be a worrying shift in the wrong direction for us in terms of our perceived strength over theirs.

I may be wrong but since Scott Brown signed for us in 2007 it has felt that we were and would be perceived in the football market place to be a better option than Rangers.

If that has now changed, especially if it’s because we increasingly seem to be a laughing stock in football trading circles , then , for me , that’s a far more concerning sign than the possibility of losing a single league title.

I don’t care so much that many of our fans perceive the board as clowns ( there’s probably a fair number of clubs whose fans think that) but if/ when other players , agents and other clubs do then that’s a huge problem.

  6. boondock saint on

I agree with what you just wrote (The Long wait Is Over) I mean we know that most clubs think of us this way, but if it trickles/ gushes down to the players and their reps then that is a huge problem. Of course most clubs are going to hold us to ransom with regards to their players and why shouldn’t they. we have become such a public shambles in our dealings that they know how desperate we are. Hurts to see good Celtic people being taken for granted every day and being fleeced by s board that holds the ordinary fan in contempt.

    Boondock

    Sad but true.

At this stage I’d happily settle for us being fleeced if we just got the right players in, especially given that the Heart’s injuries are a wee bonus.

Even if no permanent signings what would we give for a Robbie Keane or Craig Bellamy level loan signing now ?

(PS I am painfully aware that we didn’t win the league in either season they came in on loan..!)

“It will be many years before, if ever, Celtic gets back to the level of dominance we had under Ange. It will be a long time watching our despised rivals pick up the ‘diddy cups’ Roger Mitchell seems to suggest are of no value.”

Your right Burnley…if we don’t spend some of that £70+m. Why are we building up money when the team is in such a mess? We are a football Club! Can you answer that question?

Just watched a few highlights of Bologna games , defence looks shaky sadly their forwards look pretty capable and have scored some cracking goals.

At least we won’t be playing 3 at the back. Nancy in the EL was a recurring nightmare for me after the Roma game could have ended 7-0.

    ….

We did however play 4 at the back against Midgieland , who pushed right onto our midfield. Slight mitigation we looked a bit leggy after the semi final versus the Huns.

are you mental – all of those trophies were down to PL

    ==========================================

    True enough,

But according to Burnley78 under Brendan it wasn’t real dominance but under Ange it was real dominating dominance.

    No? me neither

    THE BADA BING

There’s nowhere for them to turn now, they’ve sacked everyone else, you can tell by the futility of the attempted distraction.

  12. boondock saint on

See Hearts have already replaced the injured Shankland with the player from the AFCON tournament that was supposed to come in the summer. HMMMMM, who da thunk it?

  13. We are the equivalent of a corner shop sticking price labels on tins while other premises have an electronic system , this also flags up when stock needs reordering, it should shame those on the board and the families that run Celtic.

  14. I fear our own board are trolling us.

There can be no other reason.

They are actively wanting to embarrass us from within our own club.

  15. the long wait is over on

The evidence before your eyes would make you think (especially in comparison to how quickly other teams, Hearts included, seem to be able to do business) that this was our CEO’s first gig at running any football club , let alone one as high profile as we like to think we are but that can’t be the case , can it?

    Oh, wait…

  16. Celtic enquirer and express interest – then its leaked and competition comes in . we are scouting for other clubs. Identify your top targets and make them attractive offers – be decisive. I get it , some transfer dont work for various reasons – but Celtic seem to lose out so much more than other clubs and we are supposed to be wealthy.

Maswanise is available , he’s young , he’s already proved he can score and create in scotland. He will get better . His stride and trickery remind me of a young Thierry Henry – he will develop physically too. What are we waiting for??

Next sign a big center forward who can hold the ball up , link with forwards and contribute in both boxes .

Then get in a right sided center back who can score the occasional goal and defend our box from areal threat (we are 8th in the league as a threat from corners)

We’ve known this for months now – what the heck is the delay ?

“ Rangers are one of the great clubs in Britain and we have to acknowledge that,” he said. “They are a motivation for us to go along and beat them in every Old Firm match, so we miss that opportunity.”

  18. Good Celtic men though so that’s the main thing. I’d hate to see how badly we’d be run by non Celtic fans…

  19. Just read,Kasper High,25 year old striker from Bodo,is being chased by Norwich ,£6 million they have bid. This guy is averaginga goal every two games.41 from 80 games,7 from 14 in Europe.Having watched him a couple of times with Bodo,he is terrific.I thought ,somebody will snatch him.Scored two against Spurs last season. If he is,as it seems,up for 6 million,we should be front of the queue.

Can’t believe no one has mentioned him.6 foot tall 🙄

First time Brendan I was 100% all in.

Totally supportive despite the dire European stuff.

He did a great job. Broony and others I know who were there referenced that. Chris Davies likewise.

The china thing was not even a bother to me. SG across the city maybe was making inroads anyway. It was. Not a bad thing he went. No bad feeling from me re that either.

His second coming has seen a great squad, built by Ange and the recruitment guys in the wake of rangers league win and our collapse, decimated.

It has seen him given full control and any previous checks and balances removed. He got rid of recruitment team which worked well with Ange. He had us playing boring and outdated football and took us from a fantastic enjoyable experience into brutal turgid stuff. Despite a crap collapsing opponent across the city. He signed dross for lots of money and constantly moaned about lack of support and options which was patently crap. He worked up the support vs the ownership / board whilst feathering his own nest. IMO.

Ange did none of that. From a standing start.

Ultimately to lose to Almaty is a disgrace. He led us to that.

Hopefully the ensuing civil war allows all those who were not happy with what we achieved under PL etc to get what they wanted. Personally I am not holding my breath.
