Winning mindset

211

In several of Martin O’Neill’s 11 games in charge this season Celtic have been poor, the recent outing at Falkirk a case in point.  What’s clear, though, is Martin’s winning mindset.  Even when under pressure (late against Dundee) or facing several great chances (Falkirk), there was a high degree of confidence Celtic would get the job done.

In all honesty, the Europa League seems like a distraction this week.  The Scottish Premiership is all important and a visit to Edinburgh on Sunday weighs heavy on the mind.  That will not be how Martin O’Neill sees things, though.  That mindset will not allow anything other than the execution of a plan to win the game.  His first 11 will start the Europa League game on Thursday and – successful or not – they will take the field with confidence they can deliver.

You and I have watched too many Celtic away games in Europe to be too optimistic about the outcome.  Still, some of us have many reasons to never underestimate Martin O’Neill.

  1. Roger Mato gonna join the jambos – don’t know much about – hopefully not as proficient in the spfl as Shankit

  2. Prestonpans bhoys on

Tomas Cvancara, scored one goal in 11 with the Turks 25/26, two with the Germans 24/25 in 28 games. 🙄

    Shoot the scouts!

Continually pointing out flaws in thinking to those who are too bitter and hateful to see them is a fool’s errand.

Their ego won’t allow them to admit they’ve been played. They dwell in the half-light, waiting for crumbs from the master’s table, all while coming across as unhinged.

They are convinced they’re heralds of the truth, but outside their own fever dream, that truth has a completely different face, one that only serves to highlight the frantic crazed look in their eye.

Deflecting from the real cause of the malaise. But it is abundantly clear that no one on here bar a few, is buying that snake oil anymore.

“The squad is threadbare. We’ve known for two years we needed to strengthen the centre-half area. It’s just not happened. We need to get players in, it’s as simple as that. I’m not going to talk about the game, I’m going to talk about the obvious.”

“I was probably a bit dumb thinking that I’d come in and people would have things ready for me. That’s not the case. There’s a bit of work to do. I’m not going to sit here and promise people that we’re going to have them in tomorrow or the next day because I’m not the one doing the negotiating.”

  4. Depressing news regarding the new striker

I suppose MON was getting desperate…bit like previous managers

    Speaking of previous managers …

BR ….spent 88 million euros….and Sold 132.5 million euro…..of course he decimated the squad nothing at all to do with the money men 😂

  5. Thank fk it’s a loan!!!!……I don’t think we’ve any intention of trying to win this league…..sad but true ….sickening really

  6. Turkeybhoy,

Surely you remember the negative posts on CQN prior to the departing of BR.

I am on the record here stating I wanted BR back as he was the best fit possible for us.

However the type of football played towards the end was roundly condemned.

Towards the end he never achieved the level of support on the blog that he seems to have now.

Cast your mind back re Kierat and Honda Civics.

    Brendan got slaughtered on here.

    That is factual.

    HH.

  7. As I said earlier, the boy from Bodo Hogh,is being chased by fekin Norwich, for £6 million. One in two scorer in the League,9 from 15 in Europe.Just WTF are we looking at loans to buy for?.Its bullshit, this talk of not wanting to spend with a new manager coming in the Summer.Anyone coming in would be delighted to have a top striker ready made.

This Board just dont want to spend.Don’t get caught up in the bullshit of cliches.

  8. Also,be worth asking Bodo about Hauge,The attacking midfielder who scored the third stunner. He is around the same price.Magnificent player.Bodo do sell.

    Just WTF are we doing.?

  9. There’s a strand of our recruitment DNA that loves to sign a misfit or lost soul.

The thinking’s like… he was highly rated back in the day and cost a few bob, but he’s lost his way and mibby we can rehabilitate him back to his best…off top of my head it worked notably w Sutty, French Eddy and Big Joe.

Lets hope Cvancara (if we’re in for him) reflects more of this and less of a Scepovic signing.

  10. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Kvaratskhelia is some player.

… and he moves like James Forrest

  11. Prestonpans bhoys on

    Sky Germany reporting…

Celtic are in advanced negotiations with Borussia Mönchengladbach over a deal for Tomas Cvancara. The 25 year-old striker has already agreed personal terms with Celtic. Now it’s down to the final details between the clubs. The deal is set to be a loan with an option to buy.

  12. MON loves a partnership . Sutton and Larsson . Hartson and Larsson. One winger and an attacking midfield scorer.

I hope we sign Maswanise or similar to partner the big new fella. I’d prefer Maswanise since he is already settled in scotland and knows the league . It really makes sense . Home talent , easy transition , can make the difference

  13. I just wonder Turkeybhoy why you didn’t provide the name of the Norwegian striker earlier in the window. After all the Head of Recruitment was on here asking all and sundry who they would sign. If the name had been put to the HoR, this great Norseman might have been signed by now, or maybe watched for a couple of years at least.

  14. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

They got a forward with decent pedigree in. Phew. Exceeded my expectations. The guy will get my full support. If we get anyone else in it will be a bonus given Board performance to date. That was the overwhelming priority.

  15. Croftcelt,I would think that our Board would have people in place, professionals, not them,, to scour the markets constantly for talent.I watched these two Bodo players rip Spurs to shreds last season.Since then both have maintained that form. The striker,an average of a goal every 2 games, more in Europe. The midfielder,Hauge, has scored 8 in 15 in Europe.Surely these are markers. The commentary team tonight, gushing with praise for them, saying both are on the market for around £6.5 million. And Bodo will sell.

Why can’t we see this?.Its not difficult to buy in January,if you are prepared to pay.No harm to the boy we are signing, but its a gamble we cannot afford.Far too many taken in with tripe from our Board.

  16. This guy we are signing was a total flop here.Thats my worry. Its the SPFL,so maybe he will come good.He should, and of course I will be praying, not literally,he does.

    Maybe more to come.

  17. Greenpinta,

I do remember. Most of it spread by the same ones that have spread it since, backed up by Eejits who never forgave him for leaving, but were more than happy to cheer when the Trophies arrived.Paul 67,our leader, the guiltiest, followed by Burnley’s crew..

Never been a fan of innuendo, and lies to suit agendas

.Plenty on the go on here.

    As you well know.

  18. NICK

    some good stuff there

and right enough, payback for the EU and its complicity in the genocide in gaza

in this case tho, easy to hate both the EU and the US :)

  19.

    Have we signed anyone?

    Have we signed anyone?

    Have we signed anyone?

    The next 13 days above.

  20. Surely there must WC teams with fringe players looking for some game time to impress the manager and willing to go on loan or push for a transfer to Celtic?

  21. Have tickets to see the above in March at the venue in my hood.

5 minute walk to the venue.

25 minute stagger back after gig. Then an Uber. Then asking the Looval loover to come and get me as the Uber driver and I are lost. Then questioning why I thought it was a good idea to go to the The Dropkick Murphys at the end of my street with a stoner dude from a previous job.

  22. The hand of God on

Tumbleweed on here today , sad to see the morning after we sign a new striker guess it shows how much the credibility of this site has fallen , sad.
